Dp x Dc Prompt - Shadows and Redlights
Duke has been chancing this one person for a long time. Like really long time. It's quite hard to explain.
He used to get these dreams of someone on a motorcycle. He had one too. His was yellow, theirs was red and they would race down the street. That person always won.
But he had no idea who it was. Soulmates dreams are supposed to be helpful but his were useless. First off, they had a helmet and armor on?! He couldn't even tell what they looked like.
At some point he considered just giving up as trying to find someone like that made life impossible. There were so many people in the world that owned a red bike. Worst of all it wasn't a bike that existed (not legally anyway) so sue him.
Duke watched his foster siblings fall into relationships one by one while having this sting. Bruce did try offering again but Duke waved the detective off. Having him do it kinda defeats the point of finding them yourself.
In the end he would just have to wait until it placed out. Hopefully.
At first it was a report of an old road out the way having illegal street racing. No one really used it and at first none of the bats really cared. Gothamites like having fun as long as they aren't over doing it, it should be fine.
It was a motorcycle race tho.
All the bats woke him up quite literally talking over each other trying to explain. All Duke heard was cave, something something, race. He just teleported himself to the cave because holy hell was he overwhelmed at 1 am.
Illegal racing? He knew about. Motorcycle race? He heard the rumor. Apparently there was an undefeated racer in red? BINGO.
Was Duke surprised that Bruce got him a bike just like his dream? No. The man was a freak, of course he managed to get it done without Duke giving him details. Not that he would tell him that.
The race itself was pretty simple. Duke ignored everyone else and kept his eyes on Red who definitely noticed him. Didn't approach him though.
Once the race started, he was starting to see why Red was undefeated. That bike was definitely not normal by any means. When it moved it must have seemed red to everyone else but Duke saw it as green. A bright intoxicating green as it zipped past everyone.
Well two could play at that game.
A little shadow magic was never against the rules yeah? He managed to get in front of them. They both ended up baiting each other until they were completely off the road of the race and isolated somewhere random.
They both stopped to stare at each other. Duke waited for a bit and they flipped their visor up and he finally got to see her face. She tapped her helmet and Duke realized that she was trying to connect headsets.
"com check 1 2?" Oh she was really quick.
"Cool. Asshole. Trying to take my win?"
"What?" He really wasn't but he could see why she would say that.
"Just cause your my soulmate ain't mean I'ma let you win."
Oh. She's competitive. Well he can work with that.
