Writing Updates

i don't mean to alarm anyone...

but i've written nearly 5000 words of Obsequium in the last two days.

chapter 20 and the epilogue are about 75% complete. i might have a chance to write a bit more later.

i can't explain what happened. i opened up my document, as i so often do on my days off, and i was able to add to it.

part of it is i finally was able to make progress on other projects, part of it is i finally have an established rhythm at work. i'm no longer in the 'learning new things' phase, which i got thrown back into twice with uptraining. that takes a lot of my focus and energy. now i'm in the 'doing the things' phase, and that's easier.

managed to get quite a bit more done today, too. i'd say chapter 20 is 90% complete and the epilogue is 85%. very pleased with how it's coming along!!

i have a lot of House Tasks that need to be seen to tomorrow, so no idea if i'll be able to find any time to write. if i do, i'll be sure to let you know about it.

i left a bit of a door open in the epilogue for myself if i ever want to return to this universe again. i've really loved writing *EVERYONE*, not just the pines. it feels wrong putting these character voices i've been honing into a box with the story when it's finished, i'd like the option to pick them up and play with them again.

about 20k words between the two of them. some of them are even good words.

now it's time to edit them. read them over. let them marinate into their final forms. i do work this weekend; but with any luck i'll be able to find time to do some rereading and editing.

managed to do a solid editing pass of the epilogue after work last night and i'm about 1/3 of the way through my first pass on chapter 20. i'm very pleased with the pacing and tone so far, i'll say that much.

made a lot of progress on my days off, and had some energy after work to finish the first hard editing pass on chapter 20. the second pass will take much less time to do, as i won't have to do as many re-writes.

i'm pretty pleased with it overall. i feel like it's a satisfying ending to the story i've been trying to tell all this time.

the epilogue is just pure wank and i will freely admit that. after torturing these poor souls for so long i wanted to do something nicer for a change. plus, i'd like to leave the readers with a slightly sweeter taste in their mouths. is that so wrong? we've all earned a blankie and a muffin.

life updates and babbling

i'm still around. i'm so sorry for going dark, but ... my job is fairly demanding (or at least it has been over the last month).

few things about my job, one of the things about it is working holidays is mandatory. it pays very well for that inconvenience, but we just had a lot of holidays all in a row. my job is in healthcare, and the sicker people are, the busier i am. well, there are a lot of sick people right now. lastly, i made the crucial mistake of becoming important at my job not long after i got there (i possess a highly specific skill that there a very few people trained on. oops.) it has also been made clear to me that i am being groomed for leadership and management roles. so can i complain? no. i cannot.

it's an adjustment, for certain. but things are starting to quiet down a little. i've passed my 90 days, i'm really good at what i'm doing.

i've had to devote significant brain power to Getting Good at several new skills in the last few months, as well as employing ones that take a lot of brain power. this tends to leave me feeling rather rubbery. well, i'm almost done the learning phase, so my brain is starting to have room for things other than developing new muscle memory. it doesn't help that my job can be extremely emotionally taxing at times. my work sometimes involves touching the white-hot coil of human suffering directly, and i won't lie -- it leaves its marks. i have good coping skills and more than enough support both on the clock and off, but it can be a lot. even with that burden, i actually love what i do. like, a lot.

the creative energy i've had lately has been spent on my music. i keep surprising myself and pushing myself in new ways, and it's really paying off. i'm proud of all the stuff i've released so far, but this is something else entirely. most of my music is painting a narrative of some sort; this album all features tracks from the same one.

the final chapter of obsequium is more than half finished. the epilogue is about 25-30% finished. both have to be completed before anything can be posted. i have a decent stretch of days off coming up; if all goes well i might be able to sit down and get some things done.

i've definitely had obsequium on the brain. i got a decent little tablet for xmas that supports CSP, and i've been able to sketch quite a bit on it. maybe i can start sketching some things from obsequium while i get myself refocused on that world.

i appreciate everyone for sticking with me. i hope to have more good things to come in the future.

Obsequium Updates

So, Chapter 19 is out there in the world. Which means that Chapter 20 shouldn't be too far behind ...

It's taken a bit longer than I'd would have liked, but I'm actually glad for the things keeping me away from it for a change. One of the things I've had to do is heavily adjust my sleep schedule, and I'm still working on equalizing from that. It took about a month, but I was able to fall into a proper rhythm. The time change/light change double whammy didn't make it easy, my brain has been a bit frazzled and not great for writing.

But it's starting to unlock! As I knew it would, eventually. I appreciat everyone for being patient with me.

Obsequium Updates!

I actually have some to share!

Chapter 19 is FINISHED and has undergone a major edit. Just needs a second pass and it can be posted.

BUT

Before I post it, I want the rough draft of Chapter 20 completed. That way I can guarantee there won't be a long gap between them.

Chapter 20 is about 60% complete at this point, and momentum is building.

AND

The Epilogue is also started. When I'm having trouble writing Chapter 20, I write the epilogue. I'm consistently getting 500-700 words a day in SOMEWHERE.

I start training for my new job this Monday. I hope to carve out a bit of time after work each day to tickle my documents. I'll likely be updating a lot more going forward as I get closer to the end.

I didn't want to come back here without anything to show for it!

I'm also starting to think about what comes after Obsequium. There are some side stories that I'd like to tell, because I need to tag along on Grenda & Soos' trips to Idaho for illegal fireworks. Among others events I referenced in passing, but have been obsessively thinking about since.

There's also something else I've been kicking around... written a lot of music based off of it already. What if Stan and Ford were demons, and were hellbent on making a sex cult comprised of different versions of themselves they harvested from across the multiverse...?

It's been an entertaining thought experiment.
