Carmen still isn’t convinced that VILE is uninvolved, though she hasn’t found anything to connect this place to them. Surveillance is the best way for her to spot potential operatives, as well as look for anything suspicious going down.

She likes this girl’s tactics, at the very least. It’s worth making connections where she can; maybe they could even share some of what they’ve learned.

“I’m Carmen,” she offers her hand forward. “There we go! One less secret.”

What kind of enemies could this stranger have? Alex knew those who could hide so well weren’t in the most positive situations (herself being a key example of this), so there’s a level of kinship she suddenly feels.

It’s that feeling that stops her from using some sort of alias.

❝Alex.❞

With a small smile on her face, she takes the offered hand for a quick handshake.  ❝It’s interesting, finding another who can traverse so well in the shadows.❞ Especially with such a bright red outfit. She wouldn’t ask, however. She knows better than that.

There is bear meat steak on the menu and so it is served without much question. Though Valyx is a combat general, it seems his ability to be princely had served him greatly, allowing his charisma on the battle field to rule a different sort of battlefield…one that is for the business world of restaurants. 

 “It is suitably to your taste?”

Alex allows Valyx to order, and follows suit as well. It seems the specialty is bear meat. 

She looks down at the steak. There is most definitely a danger of eating with an enemy, especially at a place where he’s familiar. Had she known that he actually owned said restaurant, she would have refused outright.

But she is hungry...

She takes a bite.

The flowers at Savior’s Respite truly are beautiful, enough that Shino finds herself drawn to this place time and again. While there are some unsettling tales of the history of this place, the picturesque view one finds is here a far cry from what the mind might conjure up from such bloody tales.

A word muttered softly draws her attention away from her musings, toward a lone figure sitting in the distance, weaving a flower crown. Something about their posture seems pained, and the Raen approaches the other in concern, noticing a girl with a distant look about her.

“Uh…is everything alright?” She squats down to meet the other’s gaze, a concerned look on her face.

Alex finally notices the shadow of another arriving to the area. She quickly puts down the project, hoping it stays hidden among the rest of the flowers.

❝My apologies, there’s... there’s no problem.❞ A lie, of course. However, she didn’t want to worry the stranger. Plus, there’s no knowing where this person lies in the “friend or enemy” scale. 

But at least she’s trying to reach out, so Alex isn’t immediately wary.

❝I’m unsure what this area is, but if I’m not meant to be here, I will take my leave.❞

“Good instincts, I can respect that. I’ve got nothing to hide though, honest.” True, for once. She rolls up her sleeves for emphasis, showing she doesn’t have any hidden weapons.

“I was just looking around; easier to keep an eye on things from the sidelines.” Even if ACME and VILE are nowhere to be seen, there’s a good amount of shady dealings in this city. Best to scout things out before getting involved, right?

“You’re in the shadows too, you know. Are you the type of person that has something to hide?”

Alex lets go of her dagger. The stranger isn’t a danger, for now. But if needed, Alex could defend herself. 

She’d rather not show her entire hand, regarding how on-edge she currently is. 

❝Everyone hides something in the shadows. I have my own secrets, but I’m here for the same reason as you are: to observe.❞ 

❝I have only just arrived, and I don’t trust this place. Is this our enemy’s doing? If not, then perhaps it’s something worse. I won’t allow myself to be caught off guard.❞  Valyx may also be here, but her fears of the Dyrenell Empire playing a key role have yet to be dissuaded.

Carmen’s not used to sharing the shadows with someone else. Back home, she’s the top of her class in Stealth 101– which makes it all the more startling when she realizes she’s not alone.

“I know I don’t have any room to talk, but you know, most people don’t spend their evenings sneaking around like this.”

Alex isn’t expecting company. In fact, she’s hiding in less visible areas to avoid said interactions. She may not be an assassin anymore, but her stealth skills are next to none.

Or so she assumes, before finally noticing a figure next to her.

Alex flinches, a hand resting on her dagger. She doesn’t unsheathe it, but it would take less of a second for that to change. 

❝I agree, it’s not common. I’ve come to learn that those that stay in the shadows tend to have something to hide.❞ She raises an eyebrow, and the grip on her dagger tightens.

 “Even if it was for self defence? Your demands are unreasonable as many things that have occured in this city.” he states, already moving, armour heavy as his footsteps and inner guilt as the street paves ways to a cozy looking restaurant that had a big bear on the top, a cute anthromorphic bear but still a bear none the less. 

 “Come, I know the owner.”

❝And give you the leeway to justify your tyrannical actions? Unreasonable as my claims may be, I won’t allow you to harm the innocent.❞

Her prickly demeanor relaxes some when they arrive to the restaurant. A... a bear? A very cute bear, one that she could imagine Elisanne immediately falling head over heels for, and immediately denying it. That thought softens her up a bit.

❝...I won’t ask.❞ It’s strange and somewhat humanizing knowledge, but she reminds herself that he’s the enemy. She follows Valyx to their seat.

A younger one, a sullen look in her eyes, skulking about. Dogen had caught a glimpse of her once–someone who lived in the house next to his, he thought. 

He buys what he came to buy, simple medicinal herbs he hoped were similar enough to those he knew from home. A couple chunks of rock salt. Tucking them away in a satchel, it only takes the pillar of an au’ri a couple strides to meet her. Finding her staring at the loose leaf teas, his fingers move quickly, to get what he wanted. 

And fingers come to rest as they dangle a small bag of chosen samples of tea in front of her. 

This place is strange, in more ways than one. The city is so different than anything Alex has encountered in Alberia. She’s not used to any of the new technology.

Even shopping is a stressful chore, seeing food she’s never seen before. She’s still unsure how truthful Valyx’s words were, that this place truly was at peace.

Her gaze catches an area dedicated to selling teas. At least that seemed somewhat similar to what she’s used to.

It’s as she considers which leaf to get that she notices a looming presence next to her. She flinches, hand reaching for the (still pathetic) wooden blade at her side.

And then the individual picks up a bag of leaves.

She shuts her eyes as she sighs, her hand clenching into a fist before returning to a neutral place.

❝...Sorry.❞ She steps aside to allow the stranger better access to the teas.

I have my own reasons, much as you have your own, I assume you are in league with… King Euden was it?” still this person knew quiet a lot for someone who he just met. Perhaps this is the information master, among many things he hopes for success of his brother, but he will continue his vows on the mean time. 

“But all soldiers cannot operate on a empty stomach.”

“King Euden...” To think one of their enemies, the vast majority barely choosing to accept New Alberia as its own territory, would recognize Euden as such.

She doesn’t trust him, she wouldn’t after what happened in Clave Loy’elune. But would she reject him? Euden wouldn’t. Would Elisanne?

Alex sighs, a level of exhaustion obvious within.

❝You are correct, to tackle this world and its challenges on an empty stomach would be a grave mistake. So I’ll take you up on your offer to eat.❞

❝I am willing to call a truce for now. But should you do anything to hurt others, I won’t hesitate to cut you down.❞

Peace is only temporary isn’t it. As long as there is desire out there, and instincts , then peace can never be eternal. Not even death…

In any case he violently supresses the urge to smirk upon their first realisation of the cellphone, a useful if fragile devise [wearing armour makes it harder to use after all] that can do many things at one fingertips.

“I don’t do poisons, that is what my brothers would do.” no specification on which brother he points to.

“That…is a phone. It contains your money, your information , and everything important to function in this city. Lose it and you will find it difficult to function normally within this city.“

A phone. Alex turns the device around, unsure of how to activate it. She’ll take time to fiddle with the phone later. She would rather not get engrossed in anything in the presence of an enemy.

❝This is already so much... But I will keep that in mind.❞ She pockets the phone.

❝I’m familiar with Leonidas, and whether he would take such a path is a mystery. I still do not understand your reasoning for helping an enemy. Is it to have a hold over me? I am not easy to sway, one meal will mean nothing.❞ She’s not Euden.

Alex finds herself at the Savior’s Respite, this acting as a quiet place to regain her calm. With the massive difference from her own home and the only familiar face being that of an enemy, her mind feels clouded.

This is the first place she encounters where everything feels calm. And with no one around at the time, she can take a breath. And she does so, eyes closed and very slowly.

She should be used to being alone, and yet she can’t help but feel pain. 

❝Elisanne...❞ She’d only just reconnected with her childhood friend and yet she’s been ripped away from her again. How she wishes she were together with her again. 

She finds herself making a flower crown, a reminder of her time with Elisanne as children. How ridiculous, she’s much too old for this. And yet her hands keep moving. With her attention in two different places, she doesn’t notice the person approaching the area...

 “As peaceful as it would allow itself.” he amends, sheathing his axe instead of leaving it. a weapon it stlll a weapon and his size would make hiding it easy. His armour was still on, a strange thing to say that it was a peaceful city when he is still wearing armour to this day. 

 “This city has its own overlords, thats all I know.”  

 “Come, you must be hungry, and you do not have knowledge of how to pay here.”

Of course... true peace is something only an idealist like Euden could ever believe. 

❝Overlords... They can fight for supremacy as they wish, but the moment they hurt the innocent, I will do all I can to stop them.❞ She may not be in Alberia, but that doesn’t mean her journey to redemption was left behind.

❝You would offer a meal to an enemy? How can I know if you’ll try to poison it, ridding yourself of a threat? And thinking that I will be unable to pay is a cruel taunt. I can handle myself.❞

She reaches into her pouch, expecting to find a small pile of rupies. Instead, she pulls out a strange, thin rectangular device.

❝Huh? What... what is this?❞

 “Observe my weapon, they have taken much away from me as well.” his wooden axe embeds itself into soft ground, Valyx is just as weak as the other is. Alas his strength and experience in battle at the front lines give him an advantage, but a one on one with a assassin styled fighter? a slight disadvantage to him. 

 “The empire would not waste resources to build such a place, nor deprive its general of his main means of battle. We are both prisoners of this … city.”

 “But this is a peaceful city, as far as I can ascertain. “

Alex steps back, holding the wooden blade up when Valyx moves his axe. If he can get a hit in, it would be devastating. She’s fast, but she has the feeling she wouldn’t be able to take many hits from him.

She notices the material his axe is made from are the same as her pathetic dagger. It’s true, the Empire would not enter an area without having power behind it. She relaxed her stance... but the dagger would stay in her hand.

❝If this is not the work of the Empire, then why would we be here? Who would benefit from doing so?❞ she muses out loud, not expecting an answer from Valyx.

She glares at him, however.  ❝A peaceful city... such is hard to believe. This place is different than any I’ve ever seen. Should it be as you claim, I believe it difficult to feel any peace from it.❞

 “Are you stupid.” because their canon points had major diffference, Valyx has unknown memory of what is to transpire after encountering his younger brother. Right now his memory was a standstill since he has been here for several weeks already, alas no progress has been made but he had found ways to keep up his training. 

 “Would the empire put so much effort into a gilded prison such as this.” it was more of their MO to simply destroy what opposed them, his oath the only thing keeping him at their side. 

Alex flinches at his blatant answer. She’s not been acquainted with him long, but he’s quite different than Euden, or even Leonidas. She’s not used to it.

She keeps her defensive stance. She wasn’t the prince: she knew not to trust the words of others at face value. 

❝True, this is not what one would expect of the Empire... However, surprises are a common tactic in battle.❞ Alex’s entire strategies in fighting rely on such, what with being a sneaky assassin.

❝Your appearance here, as well as the absence of any of my comrades... who else could benefit from such a situation? The true stupidity is not understanding how I’ve come to such a conclusion.❞
