I’m a day late to the party due to the lack of proper internet connection, but…   Happy pansexual, panromantic and pangender awareness day!!!!!!

My story to self discovery: As a little kid I never questioned myself. I didn’t think I was odd or different for how I was, because why feel different for loving people? I never liked boys more then girls and vice versa. It wasn’t until high school that I started to question myself for who I was. When I learned what the different labels stood for, what it meant to be gay, to be “different”. I had a girl friend so i must be a “lesbian”. Nah that didn’t sit right. No… I have had many crushes on guys so I must be… “stright”? No it still felt odd to me. So I must be “bisexual”! No… no I’m not… Nothing felt right to me. I was terrified to come out because… why come out when you don’t even know who you are? So for a few years I labeled myself as queer. I couldn’t find a label that set well with my spirit so I chose to stick with queer. But I wanted to have a name. I wanted to say hi i’m “_____”.  As I struggled to find myself the term “pansexual” kept appearing. For the longest I ignored it, but finally, after years of flip flopping labels I looked into it. 

And suddenly…

EVERYTHING MADE SENSE!!!

I didn’t just find men and women attractive both sexually and romantically. I found all people of all gender expressions attractive! (Now before you say anything stupid… yes I have a type, no I won’t date anyone, you’ll be lucky for me to hit on you because I have a VERY specific type, and no I don’t find cookware sexually attractive…) I finally felt like I could explain myself with terms to those around me! It may get aggravating to explain the concept behind “Pansexuality”, but at least I now had a label for myself (which in it’s self felt amazing)!  I am proud to say that I am Pansexual and Panromantic!  (I am currently in the process of exploring my gender expresion, so wish me luck in my future endeavors!)

Happy pansexual, panromantic and pangender awareness day! In case you missed it, today is a community-chosen day to recognize and celebrate those in our community who don’t always make it into the acronym of the day, who are asked repeatedly to explain “what that means,” and who too often face marginalization even from their LGBTQ+ peers. Today is for you and recognizing how great you are. Pan friends, you are awesome and valid and important exactly as you are, and you’ve got my full support.
