Telepathic aliens enjoy that humans will "play music" for hours at a time. When it's too mentally quiet on deck, they just announce the catchiest song titles they know and the humans will start thinking about it automatically.
The humans hate this so, so much.
Zorf: Human Steve, can you please play that song I like, the one with all the females
Steve: what
Zorf: A little bit of Monica in my life
Steve:
Steve: mother fu--
I feel like this would get Space HR involved eventually

Jax is wandering the halls when he bumps into Kish, almost literally so given he was staring at his phone and not watching where he was going.
"Oh, um, hey. Didn't see you there lol. You're Kish, right? The Janitor." They stammer out an introduction awkwardly, trying not to embarrass themself.
@two-halves-dragon
Kishar blinks, then smiles politely. "Ah, That Would Be Me, Though I Prefer To Be Called Janitor Or Myrto By People I Have Just Met. I Assume You Have Heard Of Me From Other People Around Here, Yes?" They pause. "Ah, How Should I Address You, By The Way?"
"Oh, I'm Jax! They/he/it pronouns! And, yeah, you're very popular, people seem very happy to just sing your praises." Jax continues with its less-than-stellar display of conversational skills, fiddling with its hands. "I'm fairly new around here, though you could probably tell from my inability to get anywhere in this place."
"Ah, Yes, This Place Is Very Confusing Sometimes. I Know My Way Around Mostly, But Even I Get Lost Sometimes!" They smile, warmly. "If You Need Some Help Getting Somewhere, I Am More Than Happy To Help You Find Where You Wish To Go! If You Have Nowhere In Mind Currently, I Can Show You A Few Tricks To Locate Specific Points Of Interest?"
"I was originally trying to find Mer's castle, but I've recently learned that I should be looking for someone by the name of ‘Donovan’. I think that was it, anyway."
"Ah, I See. I Would Have Thought Donovan - If We Are Speaking Of The Same Person - Would Likely Be In Mers Castle? Perhaps I Am Wrong Though." They hum, thinking deeply. "Either Way, I Can At Least Show You Where The Castle Is."
"I don't know where Donovan is, but if they're at the castle then going there works. Show the way! I have been very lost for the past fuck knows how long. It feels like it's been months."
"Very Understandable. This Place Can Feel Very Mazelike." They nod, and begin to walk, making sure Jax can keep up as they do so. "Follow Me!"
Jax quickly follows after Kish, making heavy use of his hiking poles.
"So, is navigating this place a skill you learn over time, or is just a luck thing?"
"A Bit Of Both, Really. It Honestly Feels Like It Depends On The Day Sometimes." They shrug, slightly. "The Building Changes Now And Again, But Not Too Often, Thank Goodness."
"Well, I guess that explains why I've been going in circles for so long." He laughs awkwardly. "It will be nice to get out of these halls for once."
"The Grounds Are Very Nice, Indeed." They nod. "My Sibling Maintains Them, Actually!"
"The groundskeeper is your sibling? That's cool! I've heard a lot of talk about the both of you, but no one ever mentioned you were related."
"Oh Really? I Thought More People Knew." They look quite surprised. "Interesting. I Suppose I Must Have Assumed It Was Common Knowledge."
"Maybe they did know, but just never mentioned it because they thought everyone else also knew." Jax gives a nonplussed shrug. "Shit like that happens all the time. I have to deal with it all the time, what with the whole ‘being new to the whole ‘magic and all of that shit is actually real’ shit’."
"Ah, Very Fair." They nod, politely. "Sometimes Things That Seem Obvious To One Person Is Very Confusing To Another, And So On. I Have Experienced That Many Times."
"Well, if it's happening to you then I suppose it's nothing to worry about for me." It gives another awkward laugh. "I don't know how anything gets communicated at all in this place."
"Usually Digitally, Or Very Slowly." They chuckle, softly. "Very, Very Slowly."
"That sounds like a nightmare. You'd think someone would've figured something out already with a world this full of magic." He shrugs again. "Must be a lot harder than I thought."
"It Is More That The Building Is Alive, And Keeps Grabbing People At Random, It Makes Things A Bit Complicated. Plus This Place Connects To So Many Worlds And Times, So Half The Time, Communication Methods Are Incompatible." They pause their steps for a moment, before turning down a corridor.
"Ah, The Front Enterance Is This Way, Merlyns Castle Is On The Grounds. I Forget If I Mentioned That Before? Though I Suppose It Is A Little Obvious Now That I Say It Out Loud."
"The building being alive is actually a hypothesis I've had for a while. Glad to hear I was right!" They look down the corridor. "Well, that's not the front entrance I came in through, but this place having multiple front entrances is just more confirmation for my various hypotheses. I know, I know, not very scientific of me to be confirming hypotheses instead of trying to falsify them, but I've been trying to survive out here so I think a bit of intellectual dishonesty here and there is fine to keep me going."
"Completely Fair, And Understandable." They nod. "Your Health And Wellbeing Always Comes First! The Building Being Alive Is Something I Keep Forgetting Not Everyone Knows. I Have Been Here The Entire Time The Building Existed, We Basically Grew Up Together And Are Almost Siblings In A Way. I Like To Think So At Least." They chuckle warmly.
They walk through the front door, waiting for Jax to follow. "I Will Point Out My Siblings House On The Way To The Castle. They Grow Food, And Know Everything About The Grounds, So If You Need Something To Eat And Cannot Find The Cafeteria, Or Want To Go Exploring, They Can Help! They Will Likely Ask If You Can Keep An Eye On Their Triplets In Exchange Though; They Are Often Busy, And The Kids Are Very Energetic."
"I've been good for food so far, I brought plenty of rations and enough people seem to die with food on them for me to keep my stocks high. I'm just glad this place is an endless office, there are water fountains and coolers fucking everywhere." One more awkward laugh for the road. "As for the triplets, I'd be a horrible influence on them, so I think I should pass on that offer for their sake."
"They Are Eldritch Children. They Would Be The Bad Influence On You." They chuckle, fondly. "In All Honestly, All You Would Have To Do Is Make Sure They Do Not Break Anything While My Sibling Cleans, Mostly. It Is Very Hard To Have Any Influence On Them When Your Primary Concern Is Stopping Them From Breaking Things."
A pause. "Also. My Sibling Can Bake. Rations May Be Good, But Cake Is Probably Still A Nice Treat."
"I don't think anyone can be a bad influence on me, I'm like The bad example every parent uses to scare their kids." It sighs faintly. "But, yeah, cake does sound good, haven't had a chance to bake one since before I got here."
"You Do Not Seem Like A Bad Influence To Me. You Seem Like An Interesting, Genuine Person, But Not A Bad Influence." They tilt their head slightly. "And On The Cake Topic, I Can Always Let My Sibling Know What To Stock If You Want To Bake One With Them, Or A Flavour Preference If You Would Rather They Make One For You. They Like Baking, Feels Calming Apparently."
"Let's just say I'm following in the footsteps of a certain fictional chemistry teacher, except I'm doing it better because I took minors in business, ethics, psychology, and law." He gives them a wide smile that screams ‘I don't usually talk about this because it could get me in a lot of trouble’. "Anyway, baking can definitely be very calming, especially if you through caution to the wind and just go fucking crazy with random deviations from the method."
"Fair Enough." They nod, clearly not phased by the situation. "I Am Not Quite Familiar With The Fictional Individual You Mean, But As Long As You Are Safe And At Least Trying To Minimise Possible Harm, Seems Fine To Me. Also I Can At The Very Least Assure You That People Here Generally Do Not Care As Long As You Are Not Actively Murdering People." They pause for a moment. "Mostly. I Mean, Obviously Context Matters, But Generally It Is A 'You Do You' Situation I Think."
They shrug slightly, clearly not quite sure how to explain things in a less confusing way without more context. "And I Will Have To Take Your Word For That With The Baking, I Am Not Nearly As Good At It As My Sibling Seems To Be. I Am More Of A Cleaning Person, Really." They chuckle.
"I've never been one for cleaning, I'm one of those people who you can track the movements of by following the trail of mess and destruction. Mess just feels more homely to me for reasons I've never been able to put my finger on." He gives a by now familiar nonplussed shrug.
"Fair Enough. I Have Been A Janitor Almost All My Life. Or Something Like It, Regardless. I Am Used To Cleaning Up. I Can Understand The Comfort Of Mess Though." They shrug. "To Each Their Own Or Something Like That."
"That makes sense, I can see why something you've done for that long would be something you'd keep doing. I just hope I never make a mess big enough to piss you off." It seems Jax has a lot more awkward laughs left in it.
"You Would Be Surprised At How Hard That Usually Is." They chuckle. "I Have Had To Clean Up Some Quite Perculiar Things Over The Years, And Dealt With Individuals Of Very Varying Kinds. I Have Become Quiet Patient Over Time."
"Then I'm very glad I'll be spared your wrath. Even though the stories have probably been blown way out of proportion, I would hate to find out they have some semblance of truth." His laugh is more nervous this time, thanks to the usual escalation of exaggeration that the rumour mill churns out.
"Ah, Do Not Worry, I Have Spent A Long Time Working On My Reactions To Things. I Do My Best To Respond To Things In A More Healthy Way These Days. And I Would Never Be Angry At Someone For How They Clean Or Do Not Clean Their Own Personal Space. Worried Maybe, But Not Angry." They smile, reassuringly.
"I'm glad to hear it. Working through anger issues like that is usually good for everyone involved." It returns the smile, though theirs is far less reassuring thanks to Jax's general awkwardness.
"Indeed. I Do Not Like Causing Others Harm If At All Possible. I Was... Not A Very Well Teenager." Their tone makes it clear that's an understatement. "And I Have Made Sure To Put A Lot Of Effort Into Bettering Myself Since Then."
"Makes you a better person than most. A lot of angry teenagers where I'm from didn't realise they needed to be better until that was no longer an option. But that's not important anymore." He seems keen to keep the past in the past.
"Understandable." They nod, politely. "It Was... Well. It Will Be A Topic For Another Time." They hum, softly. "Ah, We Are Almost At Mers Castle!" They point to the structure visible a little ways away.
"Great! I'm glad I bumped into you, I would've been wandering those halls forever otherwise. Here's hoping everything goes well with my attempts to get answers."
"Agreed! I Wish You Luck!" They smile brightly. "Would You Like Me To Come With You To The Door, Or Would You Prefer We Part Ways Here?"
"I should be able to walk towards a door without getting lost, I hope." The tone of its voice is just enough to create a bit of doubt as to that possibility. "Even in a place like this, how hard can walking in a straight line to a destination you can see be?"
"You Would Be Surprised." They hum, softly. "Still, I Do Not Think You Should Have Trouble Right Now. It Should Be Fine!"
They can't tell if they're trying to convince themself or not.
"Well, I'll take your word for it!" Another laugh more nervous than awkward. "I'm good at walking. If I can trek from Boston to DC, I can walk to a castle I can see from where I'm standing."
"Alright, I Will See You Later Then, I Hope Everything Goes Well For You!" Kishar does their best to sound supportive, and not at all concerned.
"Thanks! You've been a great help, I hope I can find you again soon!" They're already walking off towards the castle as they speak, giving Kishar one last wave of farewell.
They wave back, smiling brightly as they do so. "I Hope So Too!"
Jax is wandering the halls when he bumps into Kish, almost literally so given he was staring at his phone and not watching where he was going.

@two-halves-dragon
@two-halves-dragon
"Mostly.
@two-halves-dragon
