“Well… Ghosts and the like, I suppose.”
“Isn’t that the common definition of haunted?”
"Some are haunted in much different ways than others. Not by a specter of spirit, but of the past chasing after them, relentlessly.”
“However yes, I do quite believe in spirits that walk the earth. As for this case specifically, I cannot yet judge. Might you wish to find out together my fair maiden?”
—-[♕] His expression hardens at the mention of his scars. And yet, when this stranger mentions the nightmares and the prospect of relief, he freezes. That he could forget the flames which still burned his restless mind… Hakuryuu fixes his gaze intently on the stranger.
“…What do you mean by that?” [♕]—-
“Exactly as spoken is what I mean. The nightmares that plague you, would you like them to disappear? I have removed such visages from those like yourself before, several times in fact.” He spoke, completely true. Nightmares were a simple thing to remove, the darkness that beat at one’s heart taken away as easily as milk through a straw. He would never give the complete reason, but he would always offer. Always give those suffering a chance to be returned to their former state of contentedness. Chance however, was the key phrase. “That is of course, if that is your dream.”
“I would be quite happy to take any lovely women in need of a guest for this celebration. Simply ask, and I shall oblige~”
♚ “ It’s still good to offer a thanks anyway even if it’s not needed. Even if I don’t like being very mannerly, I still have some to give out. On a good day anyway. But if you speak of confidence in what you have experienced, I’m assuming you’ve gone through some very interesting things huh? “
♚ “ I sure hope they were fun experiences. If it was too easy, that’s rather boring. “
“Well then, I shall humbly accept these words of yours. Turning down the respect of another is simply rude I believe.”
A simple bow was given to follow his words. Even if it were false and a facade, he did enjoy giving the respect another deserved to receive, just for a time.
“You might say it was like a dream, what I have seen. A never ending world that gives only happy endings. Pursuing them is not quite without effort hoever, fufufu~”
Escape to the Night
It was rather impressive watching the stranger move as he was, and it clearly showed on Lucy’s face as she applauded his clearing of a passage for the two of them. Except, naturally, what went down would easily get back up and the stranger was telling Lucy that it was perfectally okay for her to leave him behind. A sour look replaced the one of awe, and she frowned.
“What’s the point of trying to save me if you’re going to get in trouble in the process? I don’t want a martyr or a super hero, I just wanted some help.” Maybe she really shouldn’t have been talking so aggressively while trying to get down and away in the process, but Lucy didn’t like needless sacrifices. She’d watched too many people get hurt around her and because of her.
After getting to a spot where she had enough room to move, she turned to look back at the person whom she really didn’t want to run away from. “If you take on a small amount, I’m sure I can handle the other group. I just needed…well.” Lucy was acting awfully brave for someone who only moments before was pretty sure she was going to get eaten alive and left to a horrible fate. “Anyway! I’m not leaving you!”
“Ah, such a caring, selfless girl. It is quite rare to see such kindness in this age. I do quite appreciate it. However,”
At the moment of his last word, almost as if he had planned for it to occur at that second, he was once more surrounded. The girls eyes would no longer reach him for the time being, however that would be short. He was but a dream, a spirit that was connected to this world only as much as he wished to be. So as the horde jumped to where he should have been, he was no longer there. not truly. The same space was occupied, however, they would simply fall to the ground, passing through him. It was simple, he simply removed himself from this physical world. He would however still make himself seem visible. As the girl had her view obstructed, she would not see the exacts to how things occurred; once more to his plan.
To any who would look apon him, it would seem as if he simply deftly avoided each monster, slipping away with little effort. He would step over those that had fallen, seeming to use them as stepping stones to bounce from. Soon enough, he was by her side once more, returning himself to the world of consciousness. It was simple for a dream to come and go, and he himself, was no different.
“I have no such desire to see such a beauty weep this day. Therefor, I shall escape as well as you; to see us both free from this situation. There is no need for sacrifice. All you need do, is trust me my dear~”

“It’s nothing. You wouldn’t understand.”
“Well, we won’t know that until we try now would we? Please, do tell, it’s quite in my job to listen to the woes of others.”

“I hear that place is haunted… Do you believe so?”
“Fufufu, that quite depends on your definition of ‘haunted’.”
[Once the boy started being straightforward in his words, he was much easier for Reimu to tolerate. With a nod and an incredulous look his direction, Reimu set off, ready to give him the tour.]
[The grounds weren’t exactly expansive, but the scientists had found a way to cram in a few extra structures. Her tax dollars being put into well use, probably. She pointed out things of interest, such as the cleansing area when one first enters, the donation box, where the shintai is enshrined, the donation box, the charms, and the donation box.]
[…it shouldn’t take that much perception to notice what Reimu was aiming for.]
The dreams of many were many, yet in the end all came back to only a few things. The desire for power, the desire for fame, the desire for love, and of course, the desire for money. However there were few who were so blunt about it. Certainly she was no judge holding his fingers in a sign of greed, slamming his gavel at the whim of whoever paid him most, yet this girl simply oozed a desire for money. In a subtle way as well however.
“You facilities are quite lovely my dear.” he said in a soothing voice. “And your company has been most enjoyable. To be escorted by such a beauty, truly I could not have wished for a better day to be spent. You would not mind terribly I were to idle around for a bit longer would you?”
With a turn, he went to a small area the girl seemed to have ignored; whether on purpose or not. Many a shrine had one, a tribute to the wishes those that came to the area had. A touch of the small paper wishes, a read of the desires. Simple, yet all could be a feast for the dream eater. A way of control, to manipulate. But of course, his target was different at the moment.
“Ah, forgive me, I’ve been quite rude once again.” he spoke in feigned surprise, turning back towards the maiden while reaching into his outer coat.
“For your hard work, and extra for the chance to watch such a stunning figure as yourself.” in his outstretched hand was a large wad of bills, all of which were more than a simple low numbered currency. How was it he obtained such a large amount of money, such that he could give it away with little reason? It was as if a dream itself had become materialized in his hand.
Sea of Unconscious Desire
There were males that Monochrome could handle. Even those he had found interest in. He much preferred females, their dreams were always much more succulent, but he had nothing against those of a male he found worth it.
Then there were ones like this. Those that harassed the woman he found so desirable. Perhaps he was exaggerating it, yet he cared not. Even he, who was a simple manipulator of words, was quite respectful to those around. So, to stop the flamboyant ‘flirting’ of the blue haired menace, Monochrome took a step forward, completely disregarding the male, and turned to the two women opposite him.
“Please, feel no more reason to withstand this drabble. You may be on your way, finish the tasks that you set out to today. Allow me to take care of this individual that has caused you delay to your outing.”
Yet still, despite clearly saying his words about the other, so he could hear it, he gave no other form of acknowledgement to him. Simply said: he was ignored.
Phantom Memories
“Ah, you there.” the baku spoke to the younger male. “Isn’t it quite late for one such as yourself to be running about?”
Of course, the immortal being he was, Monochrome did not look that much older than the other. Simply put, it would look from many others as simple arrogance on his part; that he was superior, being able to do that which others of the same could not.
He could not say that was not close to the truth. He simply didn’t wish to have the other invade the time that was his to reign.
“The world can be quite dangeous.” he spoke again, not letting on the true desire he held. “Would it not be better for you to return to your home for the day, and simply dream of what to do for the next?”
Colorless Creativity
A spin of the cane. A flicker of wind ruffling the bowtie, leading to an adjustment. His hair blew around in the slight wind, still somehow maintaining a pristine look. He was a dream, a being that was meant to be an ideal. He could not be affected by the world.
And so, eyes set on another that seemed to be of a different realm, he stepped forward. Was he wrong? Was he right? He had little idea. All he knew was this one seemed different. A new task, a new trial. Something worth giving a try.
Either way, they weren’t a person. Human or not, of this world or the next, everything had dreams. Therefor, everything was just a quick snack on his plate.
“My but are you not a strange one? Ah, pardon my wording, there was no offense meant I assure you. Strange to me, is quite the complimentary word. Perhaps I should start again quickly.
You have peaked my interest, fair maiden. Might you allow me the honor of accompanying you this night? I’m quite certain I can make it worth your while should you accept.”
Escape to the Night
Lucy literally had no idea what was being said to her, why it was being said to her, and who was talking. All she knew was that she couldn’t climb any higher to get away from whatever that was down near her feet, and if she cried or screamed any harder she was certain to bring more of them near her. At this point in time she’d go with pretty much anyone, even someone who was clearly out to get here, and she all but jumped at the chance to escape from her current predicament.
“I have no clue who you are but if you can save me from these things then I’m all yours!” If she meant forever, or for the time being it was up to be debated. Lucy just didn’t want to be taken down by walking vegetables or dead people so taking a chance on some weirdo in a costume was probably the smartest move open to her. If it turned out later that she made a mistake she’d deal with it then but for now she just wanted to get out.
What she wouldn’t give for Natsu and his habit of destruction.
“Please my dear, there is no reason to panic. All you must do is keep yourself calm, and all will be well. That is a promise I make to you, and preaking a promise to such a lovely woman would be wuite rude, so I have no intention of doing so.”
Monochrome was no fighter of course. His power was in dream, of thought, of word. There was no talking to walking corpses, surely. It was not an ideal situation, however neither was it truly dire. With a quick twirl of the cane in one hand, he gave a quite loud whack to the face of one, knocking it into another, and then another, until a line followed like dominoes. He wised to show of a bit, and gracefully leap from one head of the creatures to the other, however with the other possibly on the verge of literally clinging to him, he decided against it.
Bowing slightly once more, he gestured at the not open area left by the fallen monsters.
“If you would my lady, please depart with some haste. You seem quite unsettled, so let us remove you from here as quickly as possible. Please, worry not for my wellbeing but only of your own for the moment; I will be perfectly fine even if you were to allow me to be surrounded once more.”
[From the moment she laid eyes on the male, she could tell something was… off. To be honest, Reimu’s sense of the supernatural tended to be hit or miss, especially when it came to youkai who were discreet enough to not flaunt their powers all willy-nilly. But more often than not, she could feel something different about those with supernatural powers.]
[Unfortunately, that same sense went off when she met someone that would cause her trouble, youkai or not. It was probably because most youkai caused her trouble.]
[His words were laced in arrogance, like he owned the place. Reimu glared at him incredulously.] “Look, do you need any help or not?” [This one better not turn out to be a vampire, like the last one did.]
A slight laugh came from him, slightly covered by his moved hand. Such a blunt person in charge of an establishment meant to speak the words of the gods. Ah, he supposed it wasn’t exactly a first. The dreams of men commonly depicted religious authorities to be quite a hassle. Yet they were not often shown in the form of young attractive girls.
“Ah please, do forgive my rudeness at such a laugh.” he said, waving his hand as if to push it away.
“So please, I accept your gracious offer with open arms. Show me the extent of your wondrous facility. It will be quite helpful, and to turn down the offer of such a lovely maiden would be unacceptable.”
❝ I had been hoping you would leave on your own, yet that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. Why have you been following me? ❞

“Hm, hm. I see, so you’re quite the assuming type aren’t you? Match with that quite the self centered view of the world, you’re quite the person, I must say. Ah, but that leaves your question unanswered doesn’t it? I would quite enjoy hearing why you believe me to be.”
Smells Fishy To Me
“I’m... quite certain I have not yet reentered into the world of dream, yet you are most definitely a phantasmal beast. Is a fisherman’s mind projecting onto the world? I’m afraid I’m at a bit of a loss over... everything about you.”

“Please, worry not of thanks, I require no gratitude. It is simply natural to help those that are in need, is it now? Ah, and worry not, I am quite sure I can handle most anything that may come for me. Perhaps it is simple bravado, but I prefer to think of it as confidence in my experience.”

[An empty shrine was quite alluring to the curious being. The spiritual always seemed to attract others, no matter their own capacity for the supernatural. Unfortunately, that meant people would come and snoop around more than Reimu desired, which is why she always kept an eye out.]
[A quick peek out from the main building confirmed her suspicions. Some boy was wandering around the grounds. She walked outside, a broom in hand in case she needed an excuse.]
“Welcome to the Hakurei Branch Shrine. Can I help you?”
One may think that a baku coming before a holy place would be counter intuitive, as in a sense they were demons. However baku were not truly (read: usually) malicious spirits, and as most of their appearances were called on by people themselves, they were rarely targets of exorcism. They were also from a realm different than demons or oni, so it was questionable if ab exorcism would even work on them.
However regardless of all of those, Monochrome simply came because he was interested. An actual place of religion in this hedonistic era? It was an interesting thought. His whim was farther proven to be a good one when the voice of quite a cute, you (looking) girl came from behind him.
“I’d say there is little assistance I need, I’ve simply found an interest in your establishment. Ah, I’ve assumed a bit much, however I doubt that will bring any harm. I must say,m I would not mind being directed by one with such a pleasing appearance as yourself, though.”
