Do you know what a midwife does?
Before we found out we were expecting our first child, we knew very little about midwives and the midwifery model of care. Fortunately, when it came time for us to find obstetrical care, a friend recommended a local group of hospital-based midwives. Throughout my pregnancy and during labor and delivery, we grew to understand and appreciate the valuable role midwives play in modern healthcare. Midwives are very kind and compassionate providers. They are extremely thorough in the healthcare they provide, carefully monitoring for any complications that may arise, while constantly working alongside specialists to provide the highest quality of care for mother and baby. Contrary to the notion that midwives only attend natural, uncomplicated births, they routinely oversee inductions (as was our case), stay with their patients if it's necessary for a physician to step in and accompany their patients to the OR if a C-Section is necessary. We're so grateful for the wonderful care we received from midwives during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and hope that more families discover the benefits of midwifery. Please read this article for more information on the importance if midwives in modern healthcare: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5412160?utm_hp_ref=impact&ir=Impact%3Fview%3Dprint&comm_ref=false
If you only purchase one book while expecting, we recommend "Baby Bargains"
Whenever I pick up this book I thank goodness for the kindness of strangers. My husband and I were unsuccessfully attempting to compare strollers at Target when a fellow shopper approached us and recommended "Baby Bargains." We looked it up and it was exactly what we needed and wished for- a guide to the best baby items by category and by price bracket. Baby items from all major brands are described, compared and graded and the authors give helpful hints on which stores and websites offer the best deals. New editions are regularly published to provide the most up-to-date information for expectant parents. If you only purchase one book while expecting, we recommend "Baby Bargains."

Serious food for thought!
Welcome!
We warmly welcome you to our new blog, "Becoming Parents." It's hard to believe our dear son is now seven months old. We've had quite the adventure thus far, starting with pregnancy and birth followed by the continuous journey that is parenthood.
Our goal, in writing this blog, is to share the various experiences of this ongoing journey, and to make recommendations for the things we find especially helpful. We believe all babies and parents may benefit from an enriched vision of pregnancy, birth and family life, and would like to make the experience available to as many people as possible.
We invite you to visit our blog often as we share our ever unfolding experience. Thank you and happy reading!
