Exquisite Oil Flower Paintings by Jan Ironside
American artist Jan Ironside’s signature impasto technique is immediately recognizable in her flower portraits. With the use of vibrant and complimentary colors, Ironside uses her palette knife to create texture and a mesmerizing 3D quality to each piece. By thickly layering oil paint and using different shades of light and dark, the artist is able to create dimension on a flat surface to an extremely delicate and dainty subject.
A favorite muse in art, flowers are usually depicted in soft and subtle colors with an ethereal sensibility. Ironside challenges the traditional standards of beauty in artistry and provides one of the most beautiful figures on Earth a source of density, strength, durability and vitality with thick layers of oil paint on the canvas.
Armed with her palette knife, Ironside is able to depict the most stunning flowers, including daisies, peonies, sunflowers, and hydrangeas among other favorites. Ironside masterfully captures the quality and essence of each flower. Tulips are given a soft lavender color, which evokes their grace and gentle nature, whereas the lush presence of peonies, a favorite of many, is portrayed in a bright pink hue, the color of feminity and beauty.
Outstandingly radiant, the shapely illustrations are dazzling creations composed in a 113-year-old studio in the historic district of a small southern town in Arkansas. You can find her entire collection in her Etsy shop.
