Rowan sighed as he buried his face into his hands. Same library, same chair, same books for two hours and still felt no where closer understanding the unit his class was on in animal languages. It was his worst class for a reason.
Well, for now, anyway.. he thought to himself, grip on his pen tightening as he tried to force his energy and determination to spike.
The library was nearly empty, with maybe only a handful of people who had the somewhat same idea Rowan did. That gave him the perfect studying environment in his own little secluded corner.
A few minutes ticked by before Rowan heard a noise that sounded like a stack of books falling from behind the bookshelf next to where he was studying. The ruckus made his concentration break. He snapped his head up in mild annoyance.
Calm yourself, Ro. Whoever caused that doesn’t mean to disrupt you and probably doesn’t even know you’re here… he tried to remind himself. It mostly worked, though he couldn’t help but feel a tad irritated.
Part of Rowan wanted to shrug it off and get back on track, but a much unfortunately larger curious part of him wanted to see what made the sound. With one last look at his paper, he sighed and stood up, ducking into the row of books.
“Hello?” Rowan called out as quietly as he could. It was a library after all.
((This little silly’ll probably have his own rp acc eventually buuuuut in the meantime I’ll be using my main. All the details that r important as of rn are his full name is Rowan Mallory, he’s a first year in pomefiore, and he’s twisted from the rose in beauty and the beast. I will have more info one him once I drop the rp acc but it’s almost 2 am and I’m so fcking tired- Can u rp with Soren pls?))
A blur of blue and grey seemed to spin by before it materialized into a fellow student. He giggled, head tilting as he floated around aimlessly. His eyes met Rowan's the purple swirls seeming to move on their own before stopping.
"I was wondering when the wilting rose would notice my arrival~"
He purred with utmost interest, slowly placing his feet on the ground and stretching like a cat lazing about.
"You truly have no clue what you're seeking, do you? Watching your struggle has given me much joy, heheheeee."
He didn't bother with introductions or anything of the sort. Explaining himself would be boring and not an interesting topic, after all. And all he was truly focused on was causing torment to the other students.
Well, there goes the idea of whoever caused that sound not knowing he was there…
“Please don’t call me that,” Rowan pleaded. That was not something he wanted to be called around school, or at all for that matter. Especially not at NRC. His classmates would never let him live that down.
The comment about his struggling left him feeling bristled, but he tried not to let it get to him, He’s just trying to get a reaction out of you. Don’t let him have it…
Rowan sighed and noticed the stack of books that had fallen. He walked over and picked them up, neatly putting them back on a shelf. Then he turned back to the person, “Who are you? And why are you interrupting my studying?” He cared much more about the second question than the first.
"Me? Myeh. Introductions are sooo trivial and boring. But fine. Soren Whimsy Mistvale at your service!"
The feline man chirped in response, not bothering to offer so much as a handshake.
"Now you know who I am. Who are you, wilting rose?"
It didn't take rocket science to see that the first year was struggling. He leaned back, glancing over in amusement.
As for his last question? Well. He didn't answer. Nor did he want to. He just did it because he wanted to. But that wouldn't be a "reasonable" answer, he supposed.
He glanced over at the books and snickered to himself. He had a knack for mischief, so he naturally had to cause some pranks in the library.
Rowan took a deep, hopefully grounding breath. Oh how these kinds of people got on his nerves… “I already told you to not call me that. Please do not call me that.”
“My name is Rowan Mallory. Pleasure to meet you…” he lied through his teeth. This wasn’t a pleasure at all. In fact, he could already feel the headache this Soren was going to cause him…
He looked around to make sure nothing else had fallen out of place. Thankfully, everything thing seemed to be where it was supposed to be.
Thank the Seven…
Rowan dusted himself off then said, “Well, good to meet you, but now I’ll be returning to my work.”
"Leaving so soon, rosebud?" Soren began to pout, his attention focusing instantly on Rowan. Like a cat eyeing an enticing mouse. His head slowly tilted as he looked at what Rowan was studying.
"Hah. You struggle with the communication of fauna? How basic. Poor little first year. I could help, y'knowww."
His grin returned more wicked than before, tail flicking idly. While not one for the long-game, the temptation was too enticing to pass up. He was getting his high from this. His catnip, essentially...
He was about to head back to his seat before Soren offered to help him. Rowan hesitated before looking back at him. With a sigh, he turned fully around and crossed his arms, “You can?”
He really didn’t want to accept help from Soren, but he really wanted to ace this class. It wouldn’t be a good for his track record of all A’s if he got a B in this class. That seemed to be the way things were going at this point.
A soft chuckle left Soren. He could see the disdain practically written in Rowan's expressions and reveled in it. The last time he had to play the long game like this was with Riddle!
Though, he had to admit this was far more enticing than his games with Riddle... He prowled over, examining everything before leaning back and shrugging.
"I could help ya'. I still have the notes from long ago when my dear friend was still a lowly first year."
Despite being an awfully lazy cat, he honestly really did know his stuff. With or without his notes. Its the only thing keeping him from being held back, anyway.
"But I can see if you dislike the idea of my assistance. Your thorns have been quite prickly since my appearance, khee he."
Rowan couldn’t trust that Soren had any intention of helping him. Actually, Soren probably had absolutely zero intention of helping. Still, he really needed this grade.
Rowan hesitated before sighing and pulling up a second chair to the table. He sat down in the chair he was sitting in before and patted the seat next to him, “Well come on then. Let’s get this over with.”
All he could do now was pray Soren’s friend had really good notes. But if his friend was anything like Soren, well… let’s just say Rowan’s hopes were not very high.
As Soren sat down, Rowan said, “To be very clear, I will let you mess with me or whatever because I don’t think I can stop you from doing that. However, the second I realize you aren’t helping me with anything, I’m leaving. Deal?” He held out a hand for Soren to shake.
Rowan didn’t want to go back to his dorm to study; it would be too loud during the day. However, it would be easier than this cat wasting his time. Plus, Vil would probably help if Rowan really needed it.
"Good choice! I must say, the notes my friend has taken have never once let a kitten stray!"
Soren purred in response as he came over and lazily plopped down beside Rowan. A vale of smoke appeared as a notebook formed within the palm of his hand.
"My friend is a stickler for notes, you see. Honestly unpractical and a waste of time. But he refuses to dilly-dally with the times. Always fussing about people being late... So boring."
He yawned, opening the book and flipping through, each page filled with neat and intricate handwriting.
"Maybe it'll help you, maybe it won't. Not quite my problem, either way. I'm not the lowly first year here! I already passed that class."
Rowan took the notebook and mumbled, “At least one of you is…”
A ‘lowly first year’? Really? By the Seven, his ego is either massive or he enjoys being an annoyance just a little bit too much…
He flipped through all of the pages, looking them all over. Everything was neat, perfect, and easy to understand, “Tell your friend that their notes are really good. And helpful, too.”
Finally, Rowan found the page for the unit his class was on. It was just as easy to understand as the rest was. He took out his own notebook and copied down some of the things he was struggling with.
“This is great,” Rowan admitted, barely holding back a relieved smile. He glanced at Soren and forced out, “Thank you, I guess…”
"Why, of course! It isn't often I offer my services to someone. Then again, people get boring and dull after a while of playing..."
Soren seemed to become reminiscent of his first year at Night Raven. How everyone was so new and fun to play with, but dull now...
"But you? Your expressions and reactions are just delectable! I want to keep you around for a little bit longer, hehe..."
He looked at the notes before looking away, huffing and rolling his eyes.
"My bunny friend gets alll the attention. Good person to study with, though. Albin Hareford. Third year. You mighttt know him. Probably not thoughhh."
Soren snickered and shrugged his shoulders. This kid wasn't a Heartslabyul student so it was unlikely he knew of the time-obsessed beastman. Not that it mattered, after all.
He examined Rowan more closely, picking out certain things. Most obvious being he's a Pomefiore student. Interesting...
“…Not exactly sure how I feel about that… um… thank you?” Rowan questioned. He was pretty sure that was a compliment. Not one he wanted to be receiving, but a compliment was a compliment nonetheless, he supposed.
Gears turned in Rowan’s head as he tried to remember where he had heard that name before. Albin Hareford… Then he remembered Ace mentioning it in a conversation once.
“Is he a rabbit beastman?” Rowan asked, “I think Ace mentioned him once, exactly like you described. Although he made it sound much worse than you did, but I suppose that’s pretty typical for him.”
An awkward silence filled the air as Rowan continued to copy notes. Part of him didn’t want to ruin it. Another part of him found any silence that he noticed suffocating. So against some of his wishes, he started conversation, “So… Heartslabyul, right? That means you know Ace and Deuce?”
A signature chesire grin formed on Soren's face at the mention of Ace and Deuce. The two were always in some form of trouble and it amused him to no end.
"Yes, yes. I am a student of Heartslabyul. And I do know Ace and Deuce. Comedy really, seeing the trouble they get into!"
He hadn't tried anything with those two yet merely because they got into trouble all by themselves! It was almost pitiful.
"Mmmm? Ah. Yes! Albin is indeed a rabbit beastman... I certainly hope they didn't speak too cruelly of my third year friend! That would hurt me so."
He feigned dramatically, a hand resting on his forehead as he leaned back, almost like a princess in distress. This guy sure was theatrical-
“A headache too, really…” Rowan rubbed the bridge of his nose, “Great guys, I know, but I swear every week they’ve almost burned down the school.”
And yet the two had somehow ended up his friends. Rowan honestly doesn’t even know how that happened. One minute Epel is roping him into some scheme with the other first years and then suddenly he’s hanging out with the trouble makers.
Rowan blinked at the random theatrics. He coughed in attempt to hiss a laugh. Hopefully that hid it. He genuinely might die of embarrassment if it didn’t.
“Anyways, your friend sounds great. More people like that at this school would be a blessing, honestly.”
Soren huffed and rolled his eyes. "Those two can be handfuls to those who don't dabble in the art of chaos, I suppose..."
Hearing the contained laughter, his ears twitched and a genuine smile crossed his face. That was what he liked. When people laughed along and actually tried to have some fun...
"Does my lamenting amuse you! Gasp! Such a cruel thing to find amusement in!" He continued with the theatrics, laughing a little as a near whisper escaped him, "Yeah, well. He's the only true friend I have, so... Guess he has to be great to handle my awesomeness~"
Rowan sighed as he buried his face into his hands. Same library, same chair, same books for two hours and still felt no where closer understanding the unit his class was on in animal languages. It was his worst class for a reason.
