Honestly the more I contemplate it the more I think Dream's ultimate skill is his ability to cater to so many different audiences and demographics

Y'all just think about it:

Manhunt is obviously built for a wide audience with the action and the tension, it can grasp even people who don't play Minecraft

His Minecraft but... series is catered toward general Minecraft audiences who might like just entertaining and funny challenges with good friend dynamics

The way he fostered the Dream SMP which just spawned into its own freaking thing like Athena being born out of Zeus' head clearly grasped the RP and story-centric communities

DNF has literally CONQUERED the shippy rpf YouTube community both because it's m|m, they're literally so open for it and ENCOURAGE IT, they don't even care ebought explicit fic and their chemistry just blurs the line between platonic and romantic

His dream shorts channel has done wonders toward the tik tok community seeing as they're so short and catch your attention

His analytical takes on his own manhunts and other subjects not to mention his skill and competitiveness in mcc, challenges, etc. take the crown in bringing attention from competitive and more analysis based crowds

I always bring back that one quote he used a few months ago when he was talking to Tommy about those compilation channels of Dream and George moments

"I want my content to be used in every which way possible because I grow"

can i talk about something that has been bothering me for awhile about shipping within this community and that i think can be very harmful not only to artists (fanartists/writers), but also to people who consume these types of art? 

i’ve been part of quite a lot of fandoms throughout my entire life and i’ve never seen such gate-keeping against shipping and people expressing themselves by enjoying the thought of two people falling in love. 

i can’t even count how many times i’ve seen people saying these exact words “by shipping you’re sexualizing mxm relationships”, which to an extent i can agree and fully support, but most of the time this is directed to people who harmlessly ship two people - and may i add, two people who have talked quite a few times that they don’t mind being shipped together. 

but why this is harmful you may ask? 

well, consider that we live in a world where being straight is considered the norm, every piece of media that you consume is centered around straight relationships and the way that this is the pattern that must be followed by society as a whole, then you enter this niche space where you see people talking about mxm relationships and fully supporting them and you start to see things with different eyes. 

the space that is created around shipping (when it’s not toxic) can be considered a safe space for queer people to discover more about themselves, to learn and to also see themselves for the first time being represented. 

now this comes from my own experience, but as someone who lives on a homophobic country, representation of me on the media is always harshly stereotyped and in almost all cases non-cishets are a “humor relief”, so when i started reading mxm fics (around 2010/2011) i discovered more about my identity, my sexuality and how i’m not alone and the feelings that i felt back then were not something exclusively to me, but a lot of people felt the same and it was through reading the work of great authors that i finally found a connection and accepted myself. 

something else that i think i should mention is that under the false pretense that they’re bothered by sexualization of mxm relations, i’ve seen quite a few cishets being homophobic and people fully agreeing with them because they don’t understand how deep this goes and how harmful this way of thinking can be. 

you don’t need to be ashamed of shipping someone if you’re doing it in a healthy way.

THIS. Exactly. m|m shippers get demonized and ridiculed all the time intensely from almost everyone because few make it weird. Like some of us here are just trying to enjoy relatable ships and feel represented. No one bats an eye when het shippers do crazy stuff, but m|m shippers get attacked for every little thing and portrayed as crazy creeps
