okay the odyssey has been out for a day im readyto start discourse
i thought we were hating on the nolan odyssey because the costumes are not historically accurate, the actors are english/american and speak with those accents, the english translation they chose is waaayy to modern to be believable in a film, there is a distinct lack of color in the trailers in both clothing and editing (colors are SO important for depicting status from the dye trade), and it completely fails to capture the broken-hearted whimsey of the original epic. but NO. turns out people are being RACIST??? bro this is so fucking stupid. we are NOT the same. i will hate on my own terms.

FNAF Into the pit is just like the backrooms guys..
fuck off nolan are you going to have six hundred men under my command with only one goal in mind (make it back alive to our homeland)? six hundred men, six hundred miles of open sea? but the problem's not the distance (it's what lies inbetween)?
Nolan, I’m sorry but I can now see no one else but Jorge Rivera-Herrans in the role of Odysseus!

listen i love this cast separately and some of them together still but captain??? we’re waiting for other things nolan
at the very least filming and everything has to have the same level of difficulty as the epic cast had to get to ithaca otherwise it’s fake
Ooooh man I had so much fun modeling up @neal-illustrator ‘s Poseidon for Art Fight 🌊🌊🌊
“The Odyssey 2026 is just taking creative liberties with the costume designs! It doesn’t need to be 100% accurate!”
Said “creative liberties” are plain, boring, and uninspired.
Instead they could lean into the beautiful colours and intricacies of Mycenaean armour recreations.
But no that would make too much sense.
“You’re pining for a daddy you didn’t even know.”
It's interesting that a lot of the complaints people have about Christopher Nolan's Odyssey movie, like the modern diversity and dialogue, are accepted features of Epic the Musical. The thing is, I can understand why they garner different reactions. Nolan promotes his movie as being as realistic as possible, but he actually has weird standards—the background music can't have an orchestra, because they didn't have those in ancient Greece, but for some reason there's going to be a rapping narrator or something. Meanwhile, Epic doesn't claim to be historically accurate, so the only excuse that Jay needs for giving Hermes an 80s Synthwave motif is "it fits him and it slaps."
Anyway, my concern now is that if the Epic animated movie actually happens, people who would have otherwise accepted an anachronistic Odyssey musical will recycle their complaints about a different movie that came out a few years before.
Now that Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is out, we can wait for the EPIC: The Musical movie, and then have to deal with people saying "We just got The Odyssey, why are we getting another adaptation?"
And all the people complaining about Lupita Nyong'o playing Helen are gonna have their heads spinning at Puerto Rican Odysseus, Polites wearing glasses, Black Eurylochus, Black Antinous, Black Ares, British Circe, and British Hermes.
And all the people complaining about Robert Pattinson Antinous saying "You're pining for a daddy you didn't even know, like some sniveling bastard" are gonna have to deal with the What Saga and Holy Moly.
Can't wait.
ohhh my god I just fact-checked, Nolan actually DID cut the "Nobody" scene from his Odyssey movie. Mfer that is like cutting the Father reveal from Star Wars. Let me speak in a language you understand this is like not dressing Batman up in his suit. "It was not possible to work it in" the TikTok musical with a budget of $4 and a scratched Hamilton CD managed to work it in in SONG form, step up your FUCKING GAME
OH OF COURSE WE HAVE AN EVIL ABUSER MENELAUS AGAIN OH MY FUCKING GOSH
