you may think you don’t want to throw your life away for mere fleeting euphoria. but, once you get a taste, it doesn’t feel so mere. from then on the planet becomes a waiting room. the rest of your life devolves to no more than the time between highs.

&. — the story.
drug mention tw, drug sales tw the last of four children to wealthy parents tyler, the northern california native, often went unnoticed to otherwise occupied parents. his two eldest siblings, a pair of brothers, were just like their father and followed in the oil trader's footsteps. when it came to forming a bond with any family member it was with his older sister, closest to him in age, and their more offset personalities from the rest of their family kept them together through the ups and downs of life. often considered aloof and slightly oddball, tyler developed an affinity for photography in his early teens, something that his brothers ridiculed and called weak while his father's looks did the dame. it became a hobby that he hid and kept on the side. one of his classmates in high school got him into selling weed and despite being wealthy and not really needing for anything tyler enjoyed the freedom his own personal cashflow brought him. eventually by his early twenties he was selling any drugs his clientele wanted and with that sometimes brought trouble. from rivals, from the law, from junkies. after his father bailed him out of trouble and labeled him a disappointment, he only fell deeper into his back alley deals. it seemed the apple didn't fall far from the tree. not long after his sister up and left suddenly with a weak excuse and suspicious behavior, tyler came to learn that their father was quite the criminal himself. he waited for a few months before following his sister, she still shared her location with him, and wound up in windsor bay.

friends/acquaintances from california, or met through his sister
clientele, whether its weed or something stronger he's your man
downtown neighbors, maybe they annoy each other or maybe they've become weirdly close
artsy, photography friends, they likely don't know that he's a secret photographer himself yet
fellow foodies! tyler loves to try new places and new dishes
trauma dumping: someone he met within his short timespan in town and he'd had a little too much to drink and spilled on some heavy stuff that he usually keeps buried. whether that was family drama, business drama, relationship drama he's now embarrassed for having said too much and hates that your character looks at him with empathy.
friends in low places: someone he can call on or find when needed to drink away the pain. a type of friendship that would go both ways. they don't really talk about it, that presence of another person is what matters.
hot and cold: due to something really bad that happened to him in the past he now has a really bad habit of playing the push/pull with people. one moment he acts really close and pulls you in and the next he's pushing you away because he's uncomfortable. maybe this person confronts him about it and tyler is forced to face down his demons?
