        princess? well not quite. not if she has anything to say about it. heavy’s the head that wears the crown, and all. pippa’s scuppered her chances of marrying a prince, thank the lord. she’d rather be a nobody, a nothing. a thief, perhaps? well, it would not be the first time.  ❝ split? ❞ well, pippa’s no fool; context can help, and given that the only word she understood was pay, she needs a little of that. help.  ❝ right. money. ❞ what’s the currency, here? what date should they say? pippa fishes in her pocket, and draws out an assortment of coins --- from long ago and far away, some of them. perhaps it’d be an apology, if she sounded apologetic.   ❝ i’m not a local. ❞

hmm thinking about the fact that constant time travel must have an impact on the body. for one, she must pick up some sort of energy from going backwards and forwards, something in her cells that she doesn’t know is there, but might be obvious to someone who can see or detect that kind of thing. and i think it would put strain on the body, give her aches she shouldn’t have, weaken muscles, slow down or speed up her ageing at different times. her internal body clock doesn’t know what to do with itself. and it would really fuck with her immune system; she’d pick up things that her body doesn’t have the antibodies to deal with. she has good hygiene for a georgian era person, but there are a lot of things to do with minimising germ spread that she genuinely wouldn’t know about bc they’re modern discoveries. 

basically i think she’s feeling under the weather a lot and she probably won’t live as long as she might have done, but since a) ned’s dead, b) she’s lost track of how old she even is, c) average life expectancy wasn’t above 45-50, who cares.

        ❝ no! ❞ if he looks behind him, he will see that pippa hasn’t moved, and is standing with her arms folded, imperious. it doesn’t matter that she is out of place here --- and scared by so much of what is considered normal, in this time, itching to find her way back to the machine, no matter what she might have to go through to get to it --- nor that she is out of her depth. pippa thrives on being out of her depth. she just prefers to do it in the past, and not the future. her new companion is infuriating and impertinent and only in control because he is from this place, and she is not. and frankly, she is tired of it. following never came easy to her.  ❝ i’m tired of doing what you say. ❞
