I still haven’t gotten over the fact that Hampshire College in Massachusetts has the worlds first non-human resident scholar.
THIS IS REAL
HOW IS THIS REAL
There’s a really interesting documentary called Fantastic Fungi that talks a little bit about this concept. It talks about some interesting research that has been done with some molds and a couple species of fungi to determine the efficient roadway construction. It’s cool because biologically the organism will choose the most efficient route to either a nutrient or another mycelial network. Thus, we can plan the most efficient roadways.
This kind of thing fascinates me because it really shines a light on the molecular harmony and efficiency necessary for an organism to function and reproduce. It’s just really cool that people are analyzing the patterns and interactions of a living organism to plan our society. In biology we have the phrase “structure=function” drilled into our head and this really makes you sit and appreciate organismal structure.
TL;DR: Every bit of biology is interconnected and beautiful.
