Who would have ever thought that making theories about fictional characters based on how they act and your personal interactions with people/abusers throughout your life would label you and your friends who experienced similar shit "victim blamers" lmao. Two fictional characters interact a certain way, you make unexplored theories as to how or why their dynamic ended up they way it is, and suddenly you're an abuse apologist.

Never said Bakugou was never in the wrong, but Deku definitely has issues of his own that others don't want to acknowledge, and we don't like that.

the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible

because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person 

from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating

I think part of the pushback about this is the idea that, to “redeem” bad people, their victims must first forgive them for unforgivable acts.

This is false. No one is obligated to forgive you. You can learn from your mistakes and become the best, kindest person on earth, and the people you’ve hurt still won’t forgive you, and you’ll have to accept that. And that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to grow. Because we aren’t just “pure” or “sinful”, we’re complex.

For anyone who is unclear on the matter or needs to hear this: fictional characters, while awesome, are literally not real. They do not exist and therefore are not worth sending death threats and suicide bait to real people over. There are 0 exceptions to this rule.

look, I know that everyone brings their own baggage to their responses to fiction and fictional characters, but sometimes I wish people would own that a little more. like, sometimes you can say “I don’t like this character because they remind me of people I had bad experiences with” and not pretend that you have some kind of objective understanding of the true meaning of the work and what the character is really about

I absolutely agree with this, the worst crime a character can commit is to be bland.

Why do people love the villain? Because they're usually the most interesting character because we expect motivation for doing bad things, we expect backstory and intrigue.

That's how you end up with bland 'good guys' because their back story is forgotten and their story is just - they're the hero/chosen one/only one who can fix it.

If you want people to cheer for the good guy, make them interesting, make them flawed, make me have a reason to care.

Villain f/os?? hell yeah! who hasn’t had feelings for the bad guy at some point? and B-O-Y is it great! But hey! there is characters out there - not necessarily villains! - who are literally hated by the majority of their fandom. maybe because they are/were very abusive, made some wrong choices or are extremely self-centered or maybe for even worse and entirely other reasons. there’s characters in whose tags you will mainly find hate about them. it is okay if you love them, it is okay if they are your fave and like them despite all their negative parts! as long as you are not harming yourself by doing so, as long as they make you feel good, you have my blessing!!  It is important for people to understand that you can like a character, while knowing they did horrible things! Someone selfshipping with a ‘problematic’ character doesn’t necessarily mean they support and downplay everything they have done and they defend their actions! You can be in love with a fc while understanding they did wrong! They can still be your f/o! They still love you! Maybe you can even change their future for the better, who knows?! K THX BYE

You know it's valid to hate a character or even not want to interact with people who like that character but the second you start arguing that liking a character makes someone a bad person is where you're going too far and confusing fiction with reality.

Maybe I’m sounding boring, but I didn’t like how Bakugou’s “redemption” is going on. Now he is assuming that he has always felt threatened by Deku (“always”, I mean, even he was quirkless?). I don’t know, it doesn’t seem true.

I don’t know if it’s because there may be a wrong translation, but I think it would be more viable if he had said "I despised Deku because he was weak”, or “I hated Deku because he always made me believe that I was weak, someone who needed to be helped. I never saw All Might need help, so if I wanted to be big, I needed to grow alone” smt like that.. idk…..

Bakugou is who he is for his creation, and all treat him as superior. We all know that Bakugou came to hate Deku when he tried to save him by falling off the log straight into the river. He thought Deku saw him as a weakling, and when everyone, EVERYONE says he is incredible, SO.. someone treating you like a person who needs to be helped should really taste sour in your mouth.

I don’t like Deku as a character, but he is an amazing person. And there is really no way and NO WAYS to justify Bakugou’s disgusting attitudes, but that’s what made me love the series. Although the reason Bakugou hated Deku was small, it was still something original, and I really wanted to see it turn into a good thing. BUT acting as if everything so far was just a facade for Bakugou to hate him, and saying “oh, Bakugou always knew that Deku was special, and he felt threatened”. Which is.. Deku didn’t even have a quirk for Bakugou to feel threatened by him… Feeling threatened by Deku after he evolved as much, or more than him, even though he started to work hard and training out of nowhere makes sense. But since children? idk, I really don’t like it…..

I don’t know, I just think it makes sense that he really hated him and then recognizes what, now, act like he always admires him. It’s as if the creator is saying that it is not possible to hate Deku, because it is perfect. Because he’s a good person, you cannot hate him… yes, he’s a good person, but that doesn’t mean it makes him perfect.

Fandoms.

Particularly harassment in fandoms.

People who harass others for the content they make need to fucking stop.

I don’t care if you disagree with a ship. I don’t care if you don’t like the content. I don’t care if someone enjoys an aspect of a series that you hate. No one, and I mean NO ONE, deserves to be harassed, to be threatened, to be told to kill themselves.

You’re not helping anyone other than satisfying your own ego. People have every right to enjoy the things they do and block/ignore the things they don’t. Harassing others will only justify their beliefs and paint the entire fandom as a whole in a negative light.

I’ve seen this happen too many times over the course of my life and it’s only getting worse. Fairy Tail, Voltron, My Hero Academia, etc. Series that just want to tell a story, series filled with some of the most talented and kind people I’ve ever met, wanting to show their love and appreciation for what makes them happy; forever painted as toxic because some assholes decided that others are not allowed to enjoy the things they do.

As someone who has been harassed for the content I make. As someone who has been told to go “get help” because of the content I make. As someone who has been told to kill themselves because of the content I make, I’m begging you, please don’t go around harassing others. People can only take so much before they break and they’ll never be the same.

So please, be kind to others. Be respectful of others. That’s all I ask.

i feel like so many people misunderstand redemption arcs. they’re not about forgiving past actions. they’re not about softening previous behavior. redemption arcs are about realizing past behavior was heinous and resolving to be better, do better. that’s why so many redemption arcs fall apart upon close scrutiny.

On Bakugou Mitsuki

I’ve read through countless metas about her, from both antis and stans, analyzing every single action and piece of dialogue she has throughout that one scene and debating whether she’s disciplining or abusing her son. But what surprises me is how little people discuss the comedic purpose of that scene and how bad impact does not automatically equal bad intentions.
