Many aspects of their characters would be different given that as people they have a lot more free will than their plane counterparts. Piper is still a dissatisfied flight instructor, but she also knows she could’ve been an airline pilot under different circumstances. She blames the fact that she’s an older woman, that the aviation industry is biased against her and concludes there’s no reason to keep trying. At the same time she knows many female captains, and plenty of women of color who have succeeded despite being in a field that can be openly hostile to them at times. So this version of Piper ends up more defeatist than the cartoon version who’s just bitter and trapped.

And then when it comes to someone like Needles, she had a choice when it came to being a fighter pilot in the Air Force. So she’s actually just evil and insane and enjoys blowing stuff up without regard to human life.
