Porter Hall
In the beginning of the school year we would always get a lot of fire drills in Porter. It seemed like we were having at least four a satay around the same time. Every day we would get comfortable in our beds and then all you heard was people cursing and sucking their teeth. It got so bad that nobody wanted to even think about sleep. There were times when people actually slept in their clothes because they already knew that at a certain time we would have to jump back up and leave again. The. The RAs grew sick and tired of going outside (just like the rest of us innocent scholarsš¤š) so they said that we would have to pay a fine if they started going off again. I know that the firefighters were tired of us just by the looks on their faces. Months went by, winter break passed and there weren't any more fire drills. It wasn't until a few days ago that we started having them again! But this time was different. Now they're putting ketchup and syrup on the railings so that or hands would get all nasty and sticky. Now we all have attitudes plus dirty hands. There was one day where we had three of them and it seemed like they were all back to back too. We had one at 4:29am. That one was a regular out and right back in bed type of drill. Then we had another one at 5:30am. That second one took longer than usual because the RAs had to do room checks. We went outside when it was dark and didn't go back until the sun was coming up. You could tell by the looks on the RAs faces that they were fed up because none of them came outside. All of them stayed on the first floor while we had to damn near freeze to death. Did I mention that it was snowing too? Well it was and the wind was blowing. I thought that we would just be out and right back in like the first one but that wasn't the case. I guess they were trying to teach whoever was deliberately setting off the alarms a lesson but clearly they didn't really care because just under an hour later there was another drill. At that point in time, I didn't really care because me and my friends decided to just stay up and go to dining for breakfast instead of trying to fall back to sleep with our attitudes. Now every floor in Porter Hall has a mandatory floor meeting on Monday to discuss some sort of payment plan because all of these unnecessary drills actually cost the school money. In my opinion, it's not fair for them to try to punish all of Porter because all of Porter is not triggering the alarms. Instead of having all of these pointless floor meetings they need to figure out who's actually setting off the alarms because my mother and I are not paying for anybody's immature behavior.
