good animation, terrible everything else
Black queer male artists
Big Freedia - Freddie Ross is a gay man who answers to both she/he pronouns. Often called the Queen of Bounce, he specializes in bounce, edm, dance, and hiphop music.
Cakes da Killa - Born Rashard Bradshaw, heâs a gay American rapper based in New York. His debut album âHedonismâ was released in 2016.
Frank Ocean - Frank Ocean is a r&b/hiphop artist who has dated both men and women, but doesnât claim any labels as his own. In fact he actively rejects labelling himself. âChanelâ is a must listen.
Keiynan Lonsdale - Singer/actor who played the love interest in Love, Simon. Heâs also released some truly amazing music this year like âPreachâ and âKiss the boy.â On his sexuality he had this to say âI actually donât label myselfâŠsome people call me queer, some people call me bisexual, whatever it is now Iâm happy with all of it.â
Kele Okereke - The gay lead singer of indie rock band Bloc Party. Heâs also released two solo albums under the mononym âKeleâ and a third under his full name.
Kevin Abstract - Gay & a founding member of hiphop group Brockhampton. Kevin is a rapper and singer-songwriter, and released his debut solo album in 2014. In 2016 he came out and released his second and very gay album âAmerican Boyfriend.â
Le1f - Born Khalif Diouf, heâs a gay rapper and producer. His debut album âRiot Boiâ was released in 2015.
Mykki Blanco - Originally on the music scene as a transgender woman, Mykki decided not to transition and live his truth as a gay, HIV positive man. He said âI am a femme gay man, but my trans journey is who I am.â He is a rapper, poet, and activist.
Taylor Bennet - Bisexual rapper & brother of Chance the Rapper. One of his latest singles âBe Yourselfâ is very gay and very good. I also love the song he did with his brother, âBroad Shoulders.â
Todrick Hall - Gay pop/hip house musician, dancer, drag queen, and choreographer. He released a new album âForbiddenâ just this year. Listen to âBoys wear pink.â
MNEK DESERVES TO BE ON THIS LIST DAMNIT!
Black gay singer/songwriter from England, debut album âLanguageâ out now, and he makes bops and only bops.
(The music video for âCorrectâ is absolutely perfect)
He needs no introduction. He should have been on top of this list. Serpent With Feet
I never knew I needed Florence Welch singing Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid.
25 Gorgeous Photographs of the Cincinnatiâs Old Main Public Library Before It Was Demolished in 1955
this was for a school project but also a power move and my favorite pic of me
listen i donât know if this was the original point of the piece but this is literally one of the most powerful images Iâve seen in relation to female artists and sexuality
it is a HUGE issue to get modern art historians to recognize historical lgbtq+ artists, especially women. A female artist could have never married, spent time with other publicly lgbt figures, and been living with a female partner for most of their lives, and yet you still get art historians who will jokingly be like âI guess that makes them a lesbian right? haha!â um yeah, professor janet, it does, and itâs not a joke
with that context, this piece gains an incredible amount of depth. I could write a full ten page paper on this piece alone. This is a self portrait (which beautifully and ironically emulates classic Renaissance formula) says âI am an artist, and Iâm gayâ in a way that by definition cannot be removed or questioned. Power move indeed, holy shit
what a nice and wholesome comment on this!!
Ok, art student losing shit over this, time for interjections
This is quite possibly the best modernist take on Renaissance art Iâve seen in years. Not only is everything is this picture perfect (posture, lighting, those cat eyes) but it emulates this beauty:
Judith Fucking Leysterâs Self-Portrait 1630, Netherlands
Now you may ask, who the fuck is fucking Judith Leyster?Â
She is one of 2 famous female Renaissance artists ie. women who were never covered up as being active artists because of their sex (second is Artemesia Gentileshi, she was a badass from Italy who was a favourite of the Medici family and did a series of self-portraits where she beheads her rapist, seriously Google this woman sheâs amazing) and is one of a trio of women who reigned artist supreme in the Dutch Golden Age. Judith was from Haarlem and was part of a brewer family, so had no artistic background, yet somehow managed to gain the attention of painter Franz Pietersz de Grebber (who was a pretty big deal at the time) and entered his workshop. She was so good she was written into a book and ran her own workshop, the second woman to ever be accepted into the Guild in Haarlem. Within 2 years she had 3 apprentices and only punched out between 12-35 works in 6 years, yet went on to be one of the most popular painters of the time. After her death in 1660 most people forgot about her until one of her pieces was rediscovered in the late 1800âČs after a serious of mistaken authorship.
She was so badass in establishing herself as an independent female artist, she helped pave the way for other female artists from then on to get a foothold in the field. After her rediscovery, her works influenced women from the Impressionist, Expressionist and Modernist age (which is really when women were finally being acknowledged as artists globally) and her pieces are still being hunted down.
So, not only is this photo Post-Modern and LGBTQ+ (brava babe :) ) but itâs also feminist as fuck and deserves a double thumbs up!
Didnât even know people are not allowed to give blood if they are gay
Thatâs been the thing for years. The HIV scare of the â80s prohibited us from donating blood. And they still hold that against us despite the fact that that claim has been debunked over and over again.
the wording on the paperwork is âAre you a man who has had sexual intercourse with a man after 1980â or âAre you a woman who has had sexual intercourse with a man who has had sexual intercourse with another man since 1980â (this was a blood drive at my college where majority of the students werent Alive in 1980.) I donated all the time back when I was a virgin, because o- , but now Iâm not allowed to. So a better question for this article is âWhy wonât baby boomers let queer people donate blood, even though all the blood gets screened for HIV and aids anyway?â though, theres a lot of room for loopholes in the wording of it
This fucking matters. Bias in medicine is bias that should not exist. Fucking fix it.
This is disgusting
hey trans people canât give blood either. was banned from a plasma place for having the nerve to show up and be trans. âwe donât serve you peopleâ.
This is one of the reasons why it was painful for a LOT of Queer people after the Pulse shooting. We kept seeing messages calling for blood donations but so many of us canât donate. We couldnât even help our own community.Â
