Hello!! I'm Umi, and I'm a comic artist/illustrator! I write the comic "I Dreamed of an Alien" and do art and recaps for a little D&D campaign called "Detorquere Forta"!

project sekai, whether you want to admit it or not, has ALWAYS been full of fanservice. No I’m not talking out the sexual fan service. I mean the cards where they’re looking directly at the camera or it looks like they’re acknowledging you specifically. THEY HAVE ALWAYS EXISTED.

fanservice is basically what every piece of media DOES. They create content they know fans will like to, get this, SERVE THE FANS. WOW amazing right.

I don’t event want to get into how much the Pjsk community complains alone. Like they complain when cards are too plain but they also complain when the cards are too chaotic. LIKE??? MAKE UP YOUR MIND???

here's why i think the "niigo divorce" panic is dumb:

let's compare mizuki's current predicament to some perhaps similar plotlines we've seen in the past, such as resonating with you and curtain call. the first glaring difference you'll spot is that both of those were imminent ultimatums rather than extremely premature anxiety. but far more importantly, shiho can't play for both leo/need and standout. rui can't work at both wonder stage and arcland. those are categorically inpossible, while mizuki balancing fashion school with making n25 videos will just be difficult. that's because n25 isn't anyone's "full time job" (except for kanade.) the work they do isn't central to anyone's life purpose (except for kanade.)

even if in the future mizuki can't balance the two things, if she does give up making mvs, that still wouldn't be "niigo divorce." think about it. n25 had all been working together for over a year before the main story, which sets them apart from every other group. the story starts when it does because it isn't about their work at all. it's about their healing, which begins when they actually meet each other. that's why the conflicts in their events (except for kanade's) never revolve around their songs or videos, while every other group has events all about the show they're performing that month. what i'm saying is they would still be niigo even without the work.

however, there is still something looming on the horizon. wxs is first and foremost a group of coworkers, so their existential threat is that someday they'll inevitably stop working in the same place. n25 is first and foremost a group that shares pain, so their existential threat is that someday they'll inevitably stop hurting. but obviously that's not a threat. that is unequivocally a good thing. except... you guessed it. for kanade.

if mizuki is nominally the rui of this arc, then kanade is 100% the emu. just as emu is the one person who can't let go of the wonder stage, kanade is the one person who can't let go of n25's music. she fostered the space that brought them together, and she'll be there long after the others are gone (because of a promise made to a departed family member.) but just as our happy ending showed emu that wxs could exist beyond the wonder stage, something will have to show kanade that n25 can exist beyond their music.
