✺ and "I'm sorry I didn't tell you."
✺ your [muse] knocking on their door at in the middle of the night “I’m sorry i didn’t tell you”
[[ Knock Knock Knock ]]
Iruka growled, annoyed, as he pushed himself off the couch. It has been 20 minutes now since he ordered food and the order still hadn’t made it to his apartment. He knew it was already late at night. But if the pizza place promised late delivery, than late delivery he would get.
“took you long enough..” the brunette mumbled, fixing the boxers on his hips and pulling the shirt over his chest– enough to not expose any skin to the poor kid that was delivering his food this late on a week day. “Coming! Coming!” he barked at the 4th and 5th knock on his door. Geez, this kid sure was in a hurry for someone who was already 20 minutes late. He was definitely only going to tip him a mere 20% now.
He swung the door open. His hair slung down on his shoulders, straight and messy, his clothes loosely draped around his body and his usually sunny smile now at 50% capacity. His smile grew a little when he realized it wasn’t the delivery guy, but Naruto at his door.
“Naru? What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at home doing.. god knows what you do in your spare time” he frowned, his voice still joyful in a way. When he didn’t find the oh-so familiar smile on Naruto’s face but a worried expression instead, he felt worry wash over him like cold water. Oh no. “What’s wrong? Did someone get hurt? Are you hurt?” he pushed the door open, allowing Naruto to step inside. He kept looking at Naruto as he stepped inside. He was not remotely embarrassed by the fact he, himself, walked around in only boxer shorts and a stupid green shirt with swirls on it– he wasn’t even wearing any socks..
The boy didn‘t answer immediately, which only seemed to worry Iruka even more. His parental intuition only told him to keep on nagging him until he spilled his guts, but that seemed unnecessary now. Naruto didn’t come over for no reason. The blond didn’t require Iruka’s company or advise as much anymore as he did when he was just a boy. He often felt bad knowing Naruto didn’t need him as much anymore, but was relieved to see he still came when he felt like he had to.
[[ “I’m sorry i didn’t tell you” ]]
This only drove the sensation of worry to go wild inside his body. He closed the door, walking up to Naruto. He had a feeling he knew what this could be about, he just didn’t expect Naruto to react the way he did. Was this about his children? Did he, also, find out about his future?
“Didn’t tell me what, Naruto? That you have a family?”

— ❀ Sakura breathed in a sigh of relief, beyond happy that she hadn’t just tapped some random stranger on the shoulder. It was indeed Iruka-sensei! How long had she last seen him? She remembered seeing him off once the war had set in motion, but after that…
He hadn’t changed, that was good. It would be strange if she was suddenly met with an elder Iruka-sensei; she wouldn’t know what to do, let along act if that was the case. And she definitely didn’t need anyone else to tell her of her future anymore.
But perhaps, the former sensei hadn’t come from the same time as she did, which meant he didn’t know of the war. Sakura’s eyes flickered upwards, slightly wavering.
“Hai.” She said once, still smiling even if her attention had been somewhat tampered with. “How are you finding Iwakiri? Is this your first time being here?”
Sakura looked down at the paper he was holding. She couldn’t see what was written on it from where she was standing, maybe it was some guide, or map? If it was a map, then he was new here. Very new. It had hit her hard on her first day, she couldn’t imagine his confusion…
“Ah, so it is? When did you get here, sensei?”
“I didn’t expect to run into your familiar pink mop of hair, Sakura” he laughed, his smile bright. Such a weight lifted off his shoulder after seeing the younger woman. He was so afraid he might have been the only person here. The war was still raging on in, what seemed like, their original world. He thought he left behind everyone after appearing in this strange place.
Iwakiri seemed like something entirely different-- he had only been here for a short period of time and he’s asked himself “what is this?” more times than he cared to remember.
The teacher-- now librarian and swimming coach apparently-- looked down at the small note folder in his tanned hand. He got it only a couple of days ago. it had a small welcome message written on it along with his job assignment. He had no idea just how this.. thing.. knew his name and whereabouts and just why it forced him into a job not close to what he did before.
They could’ve just put him back into a classroom full of kids, even if he didn’t know any of the material he would be teaching here. They could have given him a job that was close as to working at the missions desk, but none of these things felt relevant anymore.
A library did sound like the right place to learn about the things he didn’t know.
“I got here only a couple of days ago.. It’s a little scary” he admit, disconcerted. Nothing in this town made sense. Maybe Sakura could help him try to figure this out. “F-first time?” he stuttered, taken aback by the girls comment. This happened before? like.. several times? Perhaps this was a dream he would wake up from at some point.
Was this tsukuyomi? Some other kind of genjutsu or did he really appear in another world. He only remembered running into a barrier and passing out.
"A-ah... you look just like.." Iruka looked down at the younger girl. In awe. The girl had the exact same facial features to match Naruto's and a gentleness on her that reminded him of Hinata. Was this their daughter? ((//Hi! Nice to meet you, I'm Kelly! Sorry i get ridiculously excited for semi-grandpa Iruka haha!))
{✿} She hadn’t meant to bump into someone, it had just been an accident! Himawari knew there shouldn’t be any running in the corridors, but she couldn’t help it when she was chasing something…
She rubbed her forehead, eyes squeezing shut of their own accord. Peeking up out of one eye, she grinned at them, rather painfully.
“Sorry, stranger!” She exclaimed, giving her forehead a final rub, before looking up at the person she had bumped into. One look was all it took for the little Uzumaki to gasp suddenly, mouth falling agape at the man before her. This was…
“Iruka-ojiisan!” Himawari yelled, rather loudly. “Why do you look so young!?”
{✿} She giggled, but then shook her head. Iruka was nowhere near a stupid adult, she knew for a fact that he was nothing of the sort! He was kind and nurturing, her one and only ojisan, and Himawari loved him all the same.
“Ojisan is just silly!” She insisted, upset over the fact that he was still crying. She didn’t remember him to be someone that cried easily, but seeing him now, especially in this state… It didn’t bode well with her. The little Uzumaki wanted him to cheer up, there wasn’t any use crying so much!
“Of course I worry about you, silly ojisan! If you’re happy, then be happy!” Tiny hands bundled up in fists, a deep frown caused a crease to form between her brows. Adults were confusing! They would say one thing first, then do something completely different. Himawari became annoyed at that, but she wondered if that was just in their nature. Whatever the case may be, she would soon come to understand when she’s older.
She blinked up at him. “Hai,” she said, nodding. “I want to spend time with ojisan! A lot of stuff happened here. There was a wedding! And cake, and I wore my favourite dress! If ojisan was there, he would’d seen everyone! Ino-obachan looked so pretty—” Himawari kept going, talking his ears off, no doubt. She couldn’t be blamed, really. Someone had to fill him in on the details, but once she started, it was difficult to stop her.
Iruka ruffled her hair once more before raising. “All adults are silly Hima. We can’t help it” He laughed, looking down at the little girl who just kept rambling on and on about Ino’s wedding. She “So Ino got married, huh?” he asked, the tone in his voice fake and questioning. Himawari seemed just as enthusiastic and restless as Naruto was at her age. There was not a moment he wasn’t vibrating in his chair back at the academy. He wasn’t ever able to concentrate for longer than 5 minutes and manages to talk for hours without a break.
He heard rumors about Ino getting married somewhere before and even managed to congratulate his former student. He didn’t even know the guy lucky enough to get hitched to one of his best female students. “did you get to eat some cake too?” he just listened to the girl going on and on, all excited and jumpy.
He wondered what it would have been like if they were still in Konoha, what it would be like to be as old as Himawari remembered him. Perhaps he would have taken Hima for ramen like he always did when Naruto was younger-- he had the best moments with Naruto there but perhaps the girl didn’t even like eating the greasy food.
Iruka held out his big hand to the smaller girl, showing off his brightest signature smile “Want to take a walk, Hima? You can tell me everything about the wedding”
He wondered how else his life changed in the future. Did he get married as well? Did he finally have a family of his own-- besides the Uzumaki’s who he also considered his family. He wondered if his older self, back in Konoha, was still teaching. Most of all.. he wondered if he was still as lonely as he was before he came to Iwakiri
A little congratulations
Ino waved her hand aside and shook her head.
“Oh no, don’t worry about a gift- I cant possibly think that you even imagined I’d be married here,” she laughed. Even she wouldn’t believe such a thing were possible a month or so ago.
Her groom still woke up in disbelief at times. Heh.
“Sensei… I do have to ask… do you know the identity of my husband?”
It was just… Iruka wasn’t freaking out if he did know- and if he didn’t… well he would freak out then.
Iruka laughed, rubbing his neck in an almost embarrassed matter . He didn’t espect to come here and find her married indeed, but he did expect her to get married at some point. Student or not, Iruka had to admit Ino had blossomed into a beautiful woman-- every man would be lucky to marry a woman like her.
“Actually no. I don’t think you’ve mentioned who you got married to..”
He was sure it was Shikamaru. Teammates had this thing where they ended up married.. or at least that’s what he heard until he met his “granddaughter” who seemed to be the daughter or Naruto and Hinata.. they were never teammates.
“Do I know your lucky husband, Ino?” his voice cheery

The Legendary Teacher
I’m glad I chose this job.
Until you were able to have that thought with pride surging through your chest, then your life wasn’t truly a happy one. This was because a job was something you chose to live through for your own sake, as well as the sake of others.
Or at least, that was the way that Umino Iruka thought.
And, right now, Iruka was extremely happy. His chest was bursting with pride when he thought about it.
The trigger for this sudden burst of joy was simply this: he’d glanced the three syllables on top of Ichizoku Ramen’s Most Popular Toppings list: Na-ru-to.
Just glancing at it made Iruka immediately think of Naruto and Hinata’s upcoming wedding, and before he knew it, he was overwhelmed with emotion.

Iruka’s ethnicity
Iruka's parents, Ikkaku and Kohari Umino, were actually born on the outskirts/near the shore of the fire country. (hence their surname, “umino” and iruka’s own name). They moved to Konoha when they were still at a very young age and Iruka was born in Konohagakure. Due to his parents being from a different part of the fire country Iruka grew up in a different culture and with a slightly more distinctive appearance. His skin color is beautifully darker than most of the Konoha natives. He grew up learning about the town he came from like the slightly different dialect, their traditional cooking and culture in general.

“Iruka-ojiisan!” Himawari yelled, rather loudly. “Why do you look so young!?”
{✿} Himawari’s eyes widened, registering the tears that rolled down Iruka’s cheeks, and his laugh afterwards. It confused the little Uzumaki, but he did not seem saddened by anything. And she hadn’t said something that would make him cry out of sadness, so she concluded his tears must be the result of something stemming from happiness. She smiled then, placing both her palms over his hands in an attempt to comfort him, or perhaps console him. Whatever the case may be, she did not want to see him continue to cry. Himawari wanted her ojisan to be happy!
“Don’t cry, Iruka-ojisan!” she said in a loud voice. “I cried as well when I came to this place, and it didn’t help me at all, so I stopped! It feels better to be happy!”
Both her eyes briefly closed as she felt his big, tanned hand come down onto her head and ruffle her hair. It reminded her of her father, the almost similar way in which they ruffled her hair. Iruka was still Iruka, his touch seemed so close to what she had experienced back in the future… She hugged him again for good measure ; this time burying her face into the crook of his shoulder.
Iruka wrapped his arm around the small child, holding her lightly as her face pressed against his shoulder. He could feel himself shaking with happiness. The loneliness he might have felt before, started to fade entirely. He felt like a proud father seeing his son starting his own family, being happy and living the full life he wished he had. “I’m really happy Himawari.. don’t worry about me. Stupid adults always cry for no good reason” he wiped his eyes again, a ridiculously sloppy laughter escaping his lips.
He pulled the little girl away a little again to really register her face and recognized all of the characteristics he knew from Naruto‘s chubby little face when he was younger. The shimmering bright blue eyes, the toothy white smile and the whisker-like marks on her cheeks. She looked like a real Uzumaki alright but she also seemed to have a lot he recognized from one of the other students from Naruto’s graduation class, Hyuuga Hinata. Naruto had clearly wed Hinata and Iruka only felt a little bad he had no recollection-- or better yet has never been a part of-- his wedding. “Say you wanna spend some time with your young oijisan, Hima-chan?” the crying had finally stopped now that all of it had sinked in.
Iruka was going to make sure that now that he was a grandfather to this child, he was going to be the best one out there!
Unprofessional meeting || Mei&Iruka
Iruka remembered all the times the Mizukage paid her friendly visits to Konohagakure to meet up with the hokage and the elder members of the council. Most of the time these meetings would end with Mei and Tsunade, together on a bottle of Konoha’s best sake. Iruka was always known as one of the most hard working and kindest chunin in the village and was often asked to be part of the squad that showed people of import, visiting the village, around.
The Mizukage always wished to be showed around not only by professional nin but also.. handsome ones-- as she always so kindly put it. Iruka was baffled when he heard he was one of the people who had been picked to show her around. Being the humble man he was, he didn’t at all consider himself to be handsome. Especially when compared to men like Hatake Kakashi or even Shiranui Genma. And so, he had been in the company of Mei Terumi at several occasions.
All these small memories reminded him just how much he actually missed being home, despite living an easier and more relaxed life in Iwakiri. Here he had more opportunity to sit back, breathe and even work on some of his personal relationships. It was a surprise to him when he got the invitation from the Mizukage-- or in this case Mei Terumi since their ranks didn’t seem to matter anymore-- to have a drink.
“Mizukage-sama” He said cheerfully, as polite as ever. “Thank you for inviting me”
‘What are you drawing?’

I’d like it if you’d come to the wedding as my dad.
