Same anon as before. I don't mean legitimate criticism against white or straight people. I meant things like "whites think water is a spice". What does anyone get from prejudices and hateful comments like that, even if they were true?

White people finding water spicy is a mild joke targeted at a group of privileged individuals who regularly don’t have to deal with stereotypes that actually hurt them. While white people have to deal with stereotypes about not being able to stomach spicy food, blacks and LatinXs have to deal with stereotypes about being lazy, thieves, drug addicts, etc. While straight people deal with stereotypes of dressing poorly, gay people deal with stereotypes about being sexually deviant and ill with STIs.

Trust me, those poor straight white people will survive a joke about how yogurt is spicy. Chill.

and stereotypes about marginalized folks are used to OPPRESS THEM and throughout history have resulted in or been used to justify their rape, torture, enslavement and murder. i think most people can agree stereotypes suck because they reduce complex beings down to a few random bullet points, and no one wants to be on the receiving end of that, BUT it’s important to remember there’s a difference between stereotypes created by MAJORITY groups to maintain their status in society versus stereotypes created by MARGINALIZED groups out of frustration with their status in society. it’s a matter of punching up vs punching down.
