The Top Five Things I Love about Living in London
Almost everyone I’ve met who has moved to London is completely in love with it and never wants to leave. There’s something so special about this city; it draws you in, changes you in ways you could never imagine and your heart is inexplicably attached to this magical city. I thought I’d give you the top five reasons why I think expats are in love with London.
1. Travel- London’s location makes it the perfect home base for someone interested in travelling throughout Europe and other parts of the world. Since living in London, I’ve visited Denmark, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Europe’s budget airlines RyanAir and EasyJet have hubs in London which means very inexpensive flights and the opportunity to see other parts of the world in a short period of time very cheaply. Also, the Eurostar train gets you into Paris from London in 2 hrs.
2. International People- Since living in London, I’ve been able to become friends with people from all over the world. It’s so interesting to learn about the different cultures and customs of others from places I would never dream about going. There are so many differences but the fun part is finding the common ground that you share and building a friendship and understanding from that.
3. Transportation- London has by far one of the best public transportation systems in the world. From my first day in the city, I was taking the tube and riding the buses with ease. I have NEVER gotten lost in this city!! The public transport is so easy to use and apps like City Mapper are a great way to learn the city. I especially appreciate how walkable the city is as well, most times I choose to walk if I going somewhere that’s a 30 min or less walk. It’s a great way to learn the city and get exercise at the same time!
4. Sense of opportunity- There is a great sense of opportunity in London that can be felt in the energy of the city. Akin to New York, there’s a feeling that dreams can come true and your next big break is just around the corner. It’s a great place to pursue careers in Fashion, Banking, Advertising, and all other forms of business.
5. Restaurants- London has an abundance of quirky restaurants, bars and lounges that make for excellent dining experiences. The myth that food is bad in London is not true! There’s always a hip, cool new place to try, but you must make a booking!
