“Attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer. It presupposes faith and love. Absolutely unmixed attention is prayer.”

Mary Oliver, ‘north country’
felt weirdly weepy while drawing this. about the drawing. i guess that’s because that carrot is her baby, and she took care of it, every day, to make sure it grew. she knelt in the dirt and watered it with her hands. and now she’s finally holding it in her arms. maybe the entire baby metaphor doesn’t hold up since she pulled it from the ground. but it doesn’t have to. she really loves carrots. the sweater she wears has carrots embroidered on the collar, and her hat has an orange ribbon, the color of carrots. she’s found what she loves in life and now she has it right in front of her house and she puts down her old creaky knees every morning on the dirt to tend to what she loves. i guess i was just kind of overcome with how good some things are, you know? i think if you can find at least one pocket of happiness to curl yourself up in, that’s good. that’s what makes the sun worth it.
nothing much scarier than a lake. that water has been there for so long. too long some might say. wet
