What a fascinating reaction. Not at all surprising from what Kovacs knew of Jyuzo, but from somebody who actually was a friend of the man? Perhaps,if he judged her actions and words accurately, a close friend? Pieces shifting, forming new shapes in his mind.
“Not in particular. I only popped in because I’m thirsty. Saw you, and figured we could both do with a friendly chat.”
At least she seemed to recover quickly enough from trying to inhale her drink through the wrong pipes. That must’ve hurt a fair bit.
“I”m sensing a little bit of a story there. I’m also betting it’s private, so how about this? I’ll trade whatever you want to know about me, in exchange for whatever you’re willing to share.
A friendly chat, huh.
“You’re presuming there’s anything I want to know about you,” Diana said with more bite than she intended. And it wasn’t exactly the entire truth. True, the concept of someone being able to switch consciousnesses between entirely separate beings was... fascinating. But this felt wrong. Jyuzo’s secrets weren’t hers to share, or whatever it was that Kovacs was trying to get out of her. Her jaw was tense and she wasn’t quite frowning, but she didn’t look pleased by the situation.
“And in any case, who says there’s any kind of story? Private or otherwise?” Her tone was defensive which did no favors to her cause.
dividaetimpera:
“Oh, not at all, don’t worry.” Kovacs took over the seat next to her, as if he’d been invited. She seemed a little high-strung, if his interpretation was right; but a little alcohol seemed to have already taken the edge off. Maybe he was reaching too far- he didn’t know her that well, after all- but he was a pretty good judge of such things. Part (and perk) of the job.
She’d closed out her phone, too, he noticed peripherally. Polite? Or had Jyuzo told her a few things?
He got the bartender’s attention and ordered a shot of whiskey for himself. “I just dropped by Jyuzo’s place. Hung out for a bit. Seems like he’s getting along great with Snake.”
Idly, Kovacs wondered if Jyuzo would willingly let him within five blocks of the gun-man’s home. Probably not.
As Kovacs joined her, Diana sat up, instead of remaining slightly slouched over before. She nervously brushed her hair out with her hands -- she really, reeeally hadn’t been expecting any company tonight.A sip of her drink, and --
She choked. Kovacs had been to Jyuzo’s place? Since when? She certainly didn’t recall him ever stopping by, and it seemed out of character for Jyuzo to have someone over without mentioning it to anyone else in the house. Thankful that she didn’t get any on her clothes or on anyone else, she swallowed down the (burning, painful, oh god did it get up her nose) rest of her drink.
“Yes, he’s -- they’re getting along very well with Snake,” she said, not meeting Kovacs’s eyes and downing the rest of her drink. “If Jyuzo’s happy, then I’m happy.” Diana took a moment to consider her options -- then ordered another drink.
“Is there something you wanted to discuss?”

The good thing about working for a school instead of a hospital was the mostly consistent hours -- at least, consistent when people weren’t getting into fights in her office. Before the fight, she might have gotten to the famed Dressed to Kill on time. After the fight?
At least lifting people in and out of beds made it a little easier for her to keep the door open as the young man tried to close up for the day.
“Wait -- please! I - I know you probably want to just go home for the night, but it’s just -- there’s something very.. sort of important I need to talk about. I promise I’m not.. I’m not trying to take up too much of your time, but there’s some things I need to know,” she said, her breath labored from running from the train station. “Some things about this city.”

“You’re Diana, right?”
Kovacs stuck his hand out. The question was more a formality than anything - he remembered everything, after all. So unless there’d been a few extra lies floating around in that mafia game, he was inclined to believe that he’d heard her name correctly. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to be polite about it. (At least, it wouldn’t hurt for very long.)
“We met through one of those Mafia games, a while back. You’re friends with Jyuzo, right?”
Diana, who had been pouring over her notes about this city while nursing some whiskey, certainly hadn’t expected any company. Thankfully, the alcohol had dulled her anxiousness somewhat, so she refrained from getting out of her stool.
“That is me, but -- oh!” Now that she’d placed a face to the voice, she recognized him. “Takeshi... Kovacs, right? And, I guess you could say we are, yes.” She locked her phone, not sure quite what this was about and realizing that she probably wasn’t drunk enough to rid her of paranoia entirely. “Is.. something wrong?”
“I really wish i could say the US government improves by sweeps and bounds in the next ten years! ... But I think we all know that it’s mostly the same in 2028 as it is now. I... Don’t think it would be much different here, either.”
ninthextrication:
“….3!” At the end of the countdown Junpei did his best to grab Sunny without stressing the bird out anymore- which was easier said than done when said bird was trying to peck at his hands, but he did manage to make the switch.
“Alright, got- oof- got ‘em.” He wasn’t having much more luck than Diana though, the bird causing quite a fuss as he tried to just keep his balance holding onto it.
“Oh come on Sunny, we’re trying to help yo- youch! Not the hair!” He yelped as the bird managed to pull on a few strands, but it seemed like his suffering had at least managed to slightly calm it. Oh, such a bittersweet victory.
As soon as the bird left Diana’s arm, she dropped her bag to the ground and slipped her cardigan off as quickly as she could. Using the knots her grandmother taught her, she tried to wrap it around the bird -- it certainly looked like a harness, but there wasn’t enough material to make a leash. Which was fine, honestly. She’d have to keep a close look on Sunny, anyway. Diana gave the harness a short tug, trying make sure it wasn’t too tight.
“Okay, so that problem is taken care of... So you said we should check Sector 001 first? I did find him there, but he seemed sort of out of place.”
“It.. seems pretty obvious to me.”

gunheaded:
he’s awake in an instant, the cot creaking beneath him as he sits bolt upright and whips his head around to face the other. there’s a moment of tense silence, before he whispers, his voice broken from misuse and the dryness in his throat:
“diana? what are you doing here? where’s hideaki? this place isn’t safe, we’re–”
a shadow lunges, falling across the tent and plunging its interior into darkness. jyuzo stares past the nurse as another gsu materializes out of seemingly thin air. she’s bigger, taller, a behemoth of a weapon, almost ten feet of sheer firepower. fear settles in his heart like a disease, and it takes everything he has to drag his gaze back to diana.
“uragirimono,” the other gsu states, in a robotic voice, her jaws parting, blood welling and dribbling over her blunt teeth. “uragirimono.”
jyuzo grabs the nurse’s hand, pulls her along as he stumbles into a run. the crimson stain spreads across the earth, darkening everything it touches, following them just ahead of the slow-moving, dying monster.
“show me where home is, firebird! i don’t know why, but you need to take us there!”
“Nowhere is safe, what do you mean?” By time either of them could run, there was no time for the man with a gun for a head to answer. (They knew her, though -- they knew her name. Why?)
Diana froze in place as the shadow rose, silently begging and pleading for legs to move, to run like a rabbit. Instead, she stood like a deer stuck in headlights. Red began to pull out of the the other gunhead’s mouth as she spoke in a language Diana didn’t understand, threatening to swallow the pair of them whole. Instead, the stranger who knew her grabbed her by the hand, and while her body wasn’t willing to listen to the person it belonged to, it certainly listened to them.
“I don’t know where home is! I just know I have to get out --” As they ran, Diana felt her feet sink into the damp earth with every step -- what it was damp with, she didn’t want to know, but it felt like fighting a mudslide. The red began to creep up on them, and just as soon as it felt like the pair was done --
They broke through the scenery ahead of them as if it was glass. Unprepared for the sudden loss of push-back, Diana felt herself fall to the ground with a thud.
Slowly, she picked herself off the ground, noting the shards of the place they had left on the ground had also began to dye themselves red, but the color went no further than that. Beyond the shards, though, something else was strange. She knew this room, didn’t she?
“The lounge?”
The wall and furniture seems to change color and warp into something different, static both visual and audible welcoming the change each time. The only thing that seemed to stay the same was a large door, with a X painted on a gear -- designed to lift or lower the door. On a brick wall -- sheet rock -- concrete, this time, a strange sentence was spray-painted in white:
‘When a curious hate oozes calamity.’
@syntheticomedian
Diana was back in the room with the red and blue again, with the flash of light. Or so she thought, anyway -- the game (ha!) wasn’t anywhere to be found, just another blank steel wall. Instead, there was... Alex, Charles, and ... Where was Betty?
Oh. There she was. She certainly looked different. Diana narrowed her eyes at the blue figure, slightly concerned. The rest of the room seemed blurry and out of sight, but Betty wasn’t.
And in any case, wasn’t Betty red? It didn’t matter.
“Hello? Are you awake? Anyone home?” Diana waved at the robots, looking primarily at the blue figure in the center. Which wire was she supposed to cut? Maybe they would know.

uncagedxbluebird:
“At least you smell minty fresh?”
“they’re… ‘cherry passion’ tic tacs…”
“See? That’s even better. Oh, but.. I can’t imagine tic-tacs stuck anywhere would be... pleasant. Can you get it out?”
gunheaded:
something is clearly bothering him, the gsu swaying his head from side to side, pawing at his face incessantly. it almost looks as if he’s about to sneeze, though that can’t be physically possible. can it?
“i got a tic tac stuck in my barrel…!”
“At least you smell minty fresh?”
charm design for diana!
@gunheaded
There was heat, burning -- then it was black. Another door, less science fiction than the others but steel and still heavy. She walked through, and felt herself become heavier, like a heavy cloth had been draped over her body.
(She didn’t realize or didn’t acknowledge the change of uniform.)
There were tents, and there was gunpowder thick in the air, cigarette smoke and a whiff of copper. It was an open field, for the most part, dried ground with patchy grass and an open blue sky, but her mind did not register itself as ‘free.’ She was still trapped. She still had to find a way out. She wandered the camp, women that looked like her and a few blondes she didn’t recognize dotting the staff, all tending to the dead and dying, all with faces blurred behind recognition.
Diana saw a man with a gun for a head -- though not the only she’d seen -- and familiarity nagged at the back of her head. He laid on a cot, still and noiseless. The silence struck Diana as odd, most of all. But she didn’t know him. But they had to get out. She needed to get him out of here.
She didn’t know him. Diana spoke, her mouth soured from prolonged quiet. Dry, but sticky all at once.
“We need to go home,” she said, like she knew where home was. “You need to get up. Please stop sleeping so much.”
alright, SO. the gist of diana’s situation is reliving the decision games, but in a way that they didn’t quite happen. for example, viewing things she participated in as an outsider, solutions not working, or puzzles that weren’t actually apart of that room. largely, in ways that are stressful and/or disorienting.
please feel free to like this for a starter either in diana’s dream or involving your muse’s dream! unless you give me a preference i’ll go for whichever. please note that while this is a dream and it won’t get AS graphic, ZTD is a very gorey and stressful series! please hmu if you absolutely want to avoid it but still wanna interact.
Diana finds herself in a room nearly incomprehensible. The solid, specific details of the room are just outside her reach. Instead, she is aware that there are cool, metal walls surround her. She is aware that if the blue ball and the red ball touch, something bad will happen. They touch.
A flash, and she starts over. There is a joystick, and an arrow in the path of the two colors that guides the red and the blue. She tries to move the arrow, frantically. The arrow does not move, and instead stays pointed down. The red and blue collide.
A flash, and she starts over. There is a joystick, an arrow in the path that guides the red and the blue. She doesn’t touch the joystick, and the arrow moves regardless. Up. Right. Down. Left. Up. Upper right. Red collides into a wall. It hurts. There was no blue. It went somewhere without her.
A flash, and a door opens.
Diana wanders into a white room. There is nothing for her here. The floor shifts into a bird’s eye view of a forest. She falls through into a white room. The floor shifts, she falls through into a white room. The floor shifts. She falls. She lands. The world seemingly tilts, but her feet remain planted on the ground. The walls change into the sky, a door on the end. She walks through the door.
She stares into a room from behind a panel of glass, stares at her own silhouette with a gun against a man’s head. There’s heat, and then there’s nothing.
She walks into another room.
