Shirt being grabbed catches him entirely off guard, and while he would never actually admit it, his heart does race a little. While he would only ever claim to be a fan of Spider-Man, he knew that the hero was a celebrity crush of his. Usually that just meant watching clips of him on Youtube at one in the morning, not being pulled into alleyways with him.
“No, yeah, uh, swinging seems a lot more efficient. And a lot cooler.”
A small nod of his head, eyes glancing away from the other and to the ground as he also takes the moment to catch his breath. Even though they aren’t running, he doesn’t do a very good job at standing still, bouncing a little bit on his feet. Though, he does freeze when he sees Spider-Man take off his mask and-
“Peter Parker?” He probably says the name a little louder than he should, but he’s entirely caught off guard by the reveal. And he’s definitely embarrassed, now. Cheeks become dark red, which he hopes is slightly hidden because it’s dark out.
“Is this some kind of like, joke?” He doesn’t know how or why that would work, but he doesn’t really say that because he believes it. He says that because he feels like the right thing to do is fall back into the part he usually plays around Peter: the asshole jock. It seems easier than dealing with the fact that Peter might be Spider-Man, or that he saw Dustin’s powers, or witnessed him acting… like that.
He can’t help but flinch at the sound of his name - his real name! - being thrown at him. His eyes bounce from the ground to the buildings surrounding them, to the star-filled sky above; anywhere that isn’t his now horror-stuck classmate. How could he possibly mess up this badly?! Between the mingled realization that Dustin had some ability of his own - which he still wants to question and pry into - the adrenaline of the fight and the exhaustion of running, he just hadn’t fully been thinking.
“ It’s not a joke. Please, don’t tell anyone... ” How could he possibly mess up this badly?! His voice is quiet, back to the usual, soft spoken, shy Peter Parker. The nerdy Peter Parker that gets picked on in the halls or ignored like he’s invisible. Not the confident, wise-cracking superhero that he’d been no more than two minutes ago.
“ I’m - ” He stops and musters up everything that he can - everything that Mr. Stark had taught him about being confident and strong in the face of adversity and danger - and clears his throat, straightening up to his full height, though he’s still not quite as tall as Dustin. “ I am Spider-Man. ”
