Miller_Tony “TJ”_Mastery Journal and Course Objective Reflection MAR632-O FULL SAIL UNIVERSITY September 25th, 2022 Professor Diane Sadler Diaz
As a storyteller, vocalist, and entrepreneur I have really been looking forward to this class. Prior to writing my first book, I took writing classes in Los Angeles and that taught me a lot about character development, story arcs, tracking, and more. Alternatively, I learned music marketing the hard way…on-the-job training. This class helped to point me in the direction of combining those two blocks of instruction. As a creative, we sometimes view the world in large colors and moving blobs. Classes like this help to put storytelling in perspective. I was able to “peel the onion back” a bit and learn a little more about the why of doing what I do, even though I thought I knew why I did what I do. Going deeper into what a brand is and not just being able to use it as a “buzzword” in meetings is more than beneficial for me. Moreover, having a resource like The Brand Gap to refer back to is also beneficial.
Something that I learned way back in undergraduate school at Grambling State, was to learn how to learn. Meaning, once I’ve learned something to continue to apply those principles especially if it was not learned at 100% capacity. I’m learning now to learn how to look at my business from the aspect of the customer and not just look at my business or the customer from my perspective. There were several things for me to unwrap in this class, including answering the three little questions. It is one thing to think about who you are and what you do but once you write it down and think about it from someone else's perspective it helps to make you look deeper. The biggest takeaway about my brand story by far was the brand archetype. Honestly, I took that test with a bit of trepidation, because I really wanted to answer every question very truthfully, but I also wanted the outcome to be creator-type. Lastly, the brand strategy is something that I will be adding to my current business plan. My goal is to submit my business plan to a group of investors and this will help tremendously. I’m praying that what I’ve submitted shows that I have a true understanding of the brand strategy so to help my business plan find success.
On a personal note, thank you Professor for understanding during the week that my daughter contracted covid. That was very frightening, and exhausting. I never knew what it took to actually prepare a quarantine room and having to sanitize everything she touched and everywhere she walked. Just walking around the house with masks on was mentally exhausting as was the physical part. To let you know, her fever just broke two days ago, and her taste and smell are not yet back. But the most important thing was her breathing and that’s back, so again thank you for that, and thank you for your block of instruction.
All the best to you.
MASTERY JOURNAL AND COURSE OBJECTIVE REFLECTION
On this certificate journey, this has been another course that has been extremely beneficial to my entrepreneurial journey. My creative/business voyage led me to create Unda The Hat Media Entertainment, an artist branding and label services company. We brand and market independent DIY musicians. We focus on releasing product through digital distribution sources such as CDbaby and Distrokid. I came to this class with the expectation to learn how to apply analytical knowledge to my website to make it better, and attract more readers, that ultimately become clients.
This is the course that made google analytics real. In the previous class I learned of the Unique Value Proposition. After changing certain looks and verbiage I was able to apply new factors to my website and improve the offerings via my website to my customer base. The analytics let me know if these changes were really effective or not. On the road to becoming google analytic certified, I discovered that my landing page has a 80% bounce rate (ouch!) This is something that will be addressed expeditiously. One issue that I will have to test is, if it is a cosmetic one from my platform provider Bandzoogle. The good part is that Bandzoogle is made by musicians for musicians and has a lot of musician tools like selling tickets, the metadata that sends ISRC codes to the reporting systems such as soundscan. Knowing this metric pushed me to research and read more on how to reduce an enormous bounce rate. Two things that I will be doing is making my site more attractive and making a more clear call to action. Currently my CTA is all about my blog post. I will look to make it more about viewing the rest of the site.
Learning the SMART marketing methods and KPIs were integral in finding the trends, goals and actions that will take place to make a better, more functioning website for Unda The Hat Media Entertainment.

Mastery Journal and Course Objective Reflection DMK512-O FULL SAIL UNIVERSITY May 1st 2022 Professor Timi Cornell
This class has exposed me to areas of the business that I not only needed, but didn’t know I needed. Learning of the Unique Value Proposition was something that I was able to take directly to my website, add it and immediately improve the verbiage of what I was offering my customer base. Going into this class I had recently formed my company Unda The Hat Media Entertainment, an artist branding and label services company. Our mission is to brand artists, tell their story, find their audience, advocate for their music and help further their mission and their message. As an experienced record label executive I have seen many changes over my 30 year history in the business. Some of the basics are the same however the presentation of the message is what has changed. I knew going into this new venture that the first thing I would need is a website. I found a platform that was built for and by other musicians, therefore much of the functionality is there for their customers. However, prior to this class, I did not possess the knowledge of how to speak to potential customers beyond talking about my experience. Understanding the unique value proposition was worth everything.
Going through the different stages of the IMAP was also extremely eye opening. Learning the different advertising methods, and places to spread the Unda The Hat message taught me that there were opportunities that I was missing. I was able to set up my google analytics page and connect it to my website, which is something that I had not considered doing prior to this class. I will admit, the IMAP portion of the class was a bit of a struggle for me using my website. As a solo entrepreneur a lot of the analytics are not there yet and the niche advertising places did not offer much of the information needed for the assignment. However, there were some places that I was not aware of such as udiscovermusic.com which I now know will hold a wealth of information and I now follow them on Instagram and have communicated with them concerning one of my Unda The Hat artists

Mastery Journal & Course Objective Reflection - MAR512-O
This class has been a great way to begin my journey in the Digital Marketing course. It can be said that in gaining knowledge that it first begins with the fundamentals. In a short period of time I have been exposed to areas of business that are not only wanted, but needed.
Prior to starting the class I had ventured into entrepreneurship with my own brand marketing and label services company that primarily operates in the digital marketing and social media space. To add a bit of back-story; I have been in the music business for the past 30 years in the area of sales and marketing. After the paradigm shift of my industry, I found myself needing to make some changes and learn new skills. I absolutely knew where the business was heading, but my former skill set of using the fax machine would not allow me to journey down the digital highway. Therefore I did what so many other unemployed executives do; I started consulting.
Throughout the four week course I was encouraged to find that what was being taught were some of the business practices I have in place now. Therefore learning more and peeling the onion back metaphorically speaking has really been helpful. I have used Google tools for adwords, but never to the depth of its full potential. That withstanding, I was able to learn of many other companies, and tools that exist. In addition, learning that Google’s advertising platform lets advertisers bid on keywords, create ads including these keywords, and obtain a position on Google’s search results pages. Moreover learning about the Pay Per Click fraud scams were invaluable, I had no idea they existed and definitely not at such a high level.
Learning to break down my competitors helps to find my niche, see where there are holes in the market and exploit those opportunities. In addition, learning to breakdown their websites with tangible data is much more fruitful than just comparing the body of work and what is done for their artists.
I chose email marketing and social media marketing to discuss when speaking about leveraging search-engine marketing. I chose these because as an active blogger I utilize email marketing on a weekly basis. Social media marketing is my biggest source of marketing for my current clients, therefore learning more about leveraging them has been essential for my business.
Overall as stated earlier, this is a true foundation that will be the substratum of learning more, which will be utilized live time with my business Unda The Hat Media Entertainment. Ultimately allowing me to create a business plan that is solid and gives me the skills to follow through with active productivity.
PART II
As a Graduate Certificate candidate I will opt out of the section.
