Here’s the thing: even if you aren’t someone who enjoys nsfw material, I think we can all agree that this blanket ban is ridiculous and a completely ass-backwards way of going about fixing a problem that SHOULD have been taken care of over a year ago… 

Not only is the wording of their announcement incredibly vague and, frankly, highly offensive / misogynistic   ( “ female-presenting nipples “  more than implying that women’s bodies are inherently sexual and offensive and need to be censored. )  , but the algorithm they’re using for it is so badly constructed that it’s been flagging everything left and right, regardless of content.  ( Pictures of kittens / landscapes / and even rp text posts… )   They’re axeing blogs. There’s minimal, if any, human oversight of any of it… and the only way to really  ‘ appeal ‘   , that I currently know of, is to go through and actively request a review for each individual post. On one of my rp blogs, alone, I have over 11000 posts. That’s not even feasible… and I think staff knows this. 

For me, tumblr has been a safe haven… one of the first places that ever made me feel good about my sexuality in an extremely conservative IRL community. It’s the place I’ve spent years improving my writing, building worlds and characters that I am so proud of… and not only that, I’ve connected to some of my closest friends through this site. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s come to view this place — even with all of it’s undeniable issues — as something of a safe haven. An escape from the world… where we could just be, create stories together, support eac other, and form bonds over our love of creativity. But, in the blink of an eye, that could all be wiped away by the staff’s utter incompetence and disregard for their users. 

By all means, I whole-heartedly agree that the pornbots and cp  NEEDS TO GO.  But, this is not the way to do it. Not by a long shot. 

And, @staff, I doubt you’re listening, but on the off chance, allow me to offer some  alternatives  to nuking your entire site and running your profits into the Earth’s inner core:      Honestly, just stop the bleeding, first, then work your way in… Make it harder for pornbots to be created / post content. Make a better filtering system for your already existing  SAFE MODE for those who want it. Make a better algorithm for detecting these bots and have actual human moderation of said algorithms and the content they’re flagging… don’t just flag and delete without a second glance. Just do something that will actually work / WON’T lose you your entire stock. Because what you’re doing right now, as maybe you’ve gathered, yourself, isn’t going to do ANYTHING but drive people away and run you out of business.

Some PSAs on the Latest Updates

 According to the new Guidelines, written content is allowed. This means NSFW stories or roleplay won’t be banned.

The Safe Mode won’t exist anymore. You will have to manually block content you do not wish to see.

While the update mentions “artistic nudity” is allowed, it goes out of its way to specify illustrations that depict sex acts may be affected. 

You will be notified when and if your content is flagged: the E-mail will include a form to appeal if your post has been targeted by error. Be sure to check your E-Mail if you suspect something might happen to your blog.

Blogs market as explicit won’t be taken down. However, their content may be removed. Moreover, their icons and banner will be reverted to default settings.

The post will be updated when more details are available.

Flagged posts will be only viewable by the poster and nobody else

Flagged posts can be appealed and fixed if done so by mistake

The internet could change next week, and not in a good way

You may have heard about the efforts in Europe to reform copyright law. The debate has been ongoing in the European Parliament for months. If approved next week, these new regulations would require us to automatically filter and block content that you upload without meaningful consideration of your right to free expression. 

We respect the copyrights and trademarks of others, and we take all reports seriously to ensure that your creative expression is protected. We make this clear in our Community Guidelines. There’s already a legal framework that works and is fair: Today we take down posts and media that contain allegedly infringing content when we receive a valid DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown request. We also provide clear-cut ways for people to fight back if they believe their removed content was not a true violation. These instances are monitored and reported and live in our biannual transparency report. 

The suggestion to use automated filters for issues of copyright is short-sighted at best and harmful at worst. Automated filters are unable to determine whether a use should be considered “fair use” under the law and are unable to determine whether a use is authorized by a license agreement. They are unable to distinguish legitimate parody, satire, or even your own personal pictures that could be matched with similar photographs that have been protected by someone else. We don’t believe that technology should replace human judgment. Tumblr is and always has been a place for creative expression, and these new regulations would only make it harder for you to express yourself with the freedom and clarity you do so now.

‘’The anvil will do.” - the desert woman in black replied a bit indifferently as she took the treat, and unhurriedly sat on the cold anvil - ‘‘They aren’t yours, and yet they seemingly left a trail leading to this place of yours. Interesting, don’t you think?” - Inara continued, and took a bite - “If they truly aren’t yours - you should make them your servants. Having little helpers that can teleport here and there would be useful.”

Well, then. The woman certainly seemed convinced he was the one pulling the little skeletons’ strings, insisting as much as she did. Thalander shrugged once more, leaning back on the wall. Stubborn woman, eh? He could hardly judge, though.

“Right. Well, I don’t know why they chose to go to me first. Or if they came back here at all.”

Her next suggestion made him raise a brow in a puzzled expression.

“If I could, maybe. But I’m just a countryside huntsman. I’m not a magic user. Might be something more up your alley?”

’’…Only if you have plenty to spare.” - the desert woman replied matter-of-factly. Inara figured she’d see odd places and people if she would follow an unusual trail of crumbs right outside Majula. The desert sorceress didn’t even have time to change back to her normal clothes, since she assumed that the trail will end shortly. Exactly how she walked all the way to this land was unclear to Inara, but she could always simply follow the trail back, so she should be fine. Most likely. ”Don’t you afraid that someone might harm your little minions? Some cruel gardeners might catch their tiny bodies and reduce them to bone meal… Wouldn’t that be bad?” @undead-wanderer

“I’ve still got a small pumpkin or two I could use, though I was hoping to boil them for later.”

The wanderer replied with a shrug. He raised an eyebrow at the lady’s... peculiar outfit, before turning to his pie and cutting a slice. He then motioned towards the ground as he handed the witch her portion of desert.

“Have a seat, if you’d like. There are some stairs over there, Andre’s bench and the anvil aren’t curently in use... Probably a bit cold, though.”

‘Little minions’? It took a moment for Thalander to realise what the woman was talking about. Her talk of reducing their bodies to bone meal did help in that regard. Her... “worries” were oddly specific, however. Almost as if she’d had that idea herself. Not that he cared about the boney pranksters.

“Oh, did you encounter some skeletons? I was wondering where they’d gone after I offered them my first pie. They’re not mine.”

From the spot where the skeletons vanished and the slices of pie, a new detail previously unnoticed: A trail of pie crumb, leading up to the Undead Parish all the way to Andre’s workshop. Yes, even all the way from Drangleic and Farron! As one approaches, the scent of pumpkin still lingers in the air. Inside, Thalander could be found resting near a freshly finished, untouched pie. The wanderer raised an eyebrow at his potential visitors, before staring at the pie.

“... want some? I made way too much for just me. Even traded another pie before.”

This many people in Andre’s small workshop might cause a bit of commotion... perhaps other, unaccounted for visitors, might drop by?

Earlier that evening...

As Thalander pulled out a pumpkin pie from the bowels of his makeshift oven, the sweet aroma of cooked gourd and batter filled Andre’s workshop. It pulled the wanderer into reverie, reminiscing how in his youth, that very same scent welcomed him home after a long hunting trip with his father on All Hallow’s Eve. The old blacksmith was the only one he knew who could provide him with enough heat to create this blast from the past, to fulfill his need for nostalgic rememberance. Thus, when he found a patch of wild pumpkins in the recesses of Darkroot Woods, he immediately asked the old Astoran for his help.

The wanderer felt a gentle tug on his pants, pulling him out of his daydreaming. He nearly jumped when he saw a group of tiny skeletons, waiting at his feet with outstretched hands! But he felt no malice from them. Lowering the pie which he still somehow held in his hands, he saw their bones moving with increased excitement.

Huh... They want my pie, Thalander mused. But can they even eat it?

He knelt down to their level, and handed to them the object of their coveting. I was going to bake another one, anyway, what with all the pumpkin I found. No use letting it all go to waste, right?

And with that, the happy skeletons danced happily, before disappearing into a puff of smoke. Leaving the wanderer puzzled.
