I like to think that growing up the next gen Crow kids just have like a very confused idea of who the hell Nikolai Lanstov is.

Bc like Kaz would probably use the titles interchangeably, especially when he’s irritated with the man, and Inej has no respect for Ravkan royalty so she’d probably use Sturmhond too esp bc they’re both pirates. But like… Wylan (and Jes) are part of an oligarchy. They meet with King Lanstov at least once a year, and probably get invited to all the shit, so they probably call him the king. but ALSO. He’s Nina’s pseudo-sister’s husband!

I have been living with an early awareness since her birth of the inevitability of death from this disease, accompanied by the fear of waking up to losing her and losing her life. My little girl is certain that she is heading towards death in the absence of treatment possibilities and the availability of her requirements and that the expected end of her illness journey. I ask God for everyone who helps me not to complain of pain. Sickness, you do not know it. When sickness visits you, the world becomes smaller before your eyes, and all your wishes become insignificant in the face of health, and to see your child playing and enjoying good health. I am looking for someone to help me to alleviate the painful reality. We are suffering from my heartbreak for my sick child. She is lost before my eyes, and my homeland is devastated.

As much as I absolutely adore the symbolism and narrational meaning of Kaz’s portion of the Dregs being all teenagers, I love the awkwardness of Rotty and Specht being the only adults even more

like I picture them both as around middle aged men (dunno if we ever get Specht’s gender in the book, correct me if I’m wrong), and just every day or so they have to stop and question why they’re taking orders from a seventeen-year-old, and work through that mental cycle before they get back up and go work more.

I love the idea that Wylan just drags Jesper around to every Merchant Council event so if someone tries to surprise him with something written, he has his walking translator with him, but like

he’s in an oligarchy

There HAVE to be certain little moments where Jesper just should not be there with him, and he needs to read pressing information right before a conference or something

so Jesper must have to just drape himself over his husband at all opportunities to try and catch a glimpse of the small slip of paper Wylan is pretending to read, and then whispers sweet nothings of governmental secrets into Wylan’s ear

Like the Merchant Council must just constantly bounce back and forth between wondering if Wylan is so blinded by Jesper’s looks that he can’t notice his lover is reading the Top Secret Message he was just given, or wondering if Jesper is the dumbest man in the world for not seeing the notes that Wylan keeps clearly opening and reading right in front of him

prepare for me to be rly annoying abt film, but I think one of the reasons that the Shadow and Bone show really didn’t hit with me, even though I usually don’t have too big of a problem separating bad adaptations from their source materials (see me rewatching the Percy Jackson movies OFTEN as a kid lmao) is just how boring the shot compositions were?

(I’m just gonna touch on the Crows bc I’ve edited them more.. and also honestly I don’t even remember anything abt the actually SaB stuff lmao)

like, obviously, the coin shot introducing Jesper is one of the coolest in the series, and I love the long shot as we follow Kaz around the club, but they don’t introduce the club as a set. We don’t see Inej in the rafters, we don’t see any members of the gang waving to Kaz, we don’t see repeat customers, we don’t see him dodging around a fight. It’s stale, and uninformative.

another thing is just how all the characters are set up in shots, like there is very rarely a moment where the camera is angled to help further show a dynamic between two characters. It almost feels like a multicam sitcom lmao, like why is the shot where Kaz is on his knees NOT from Pekka’s perspective, or at least over the shoulder??

almost every single shot is shoulders up and middle of the frame, or full body shot for fight scenes/cool walking

It’s just… like… not FUN. The movies I made in my hs film class have more complex composition, and not just because they’re required to.
