A friend recently sent me a 14-day trial for Master Class and I've been listening to Neil Gaiman talk about storytelling. I'm a little embarrassed to say I've never read his work, but I did watch Sandman on Netflix. (It was great.) Long story short, Gaiman talked about something that had been on my mind for years, being inspired by people outside your creative medium. When I write, I don't have echos of an author in my mind, I have chords from a lyricist. Ben Gibbard's songwriting style has done more to inform my poetry and prose than any author I've read. Using that same rationale, I tried to make a photo using inspiration from an author, Neil Gaiman. Hopefully I did the man some justice. (at Edith J. Photography doesn't feel the same anymore. It's forced. I didn't need to find motivation to take photos before because my motivation was innate. When I was a kid, I thought those pillars went down to the sea floor.

In reality, they usually go down to some large submerged floats.

Pillars and floats like that are pretty stable, compared to regular boats, so there’s even a research vessel, called FLIP, that purposefully capsizes itself to be more steady when conducting research.

Years ago at @AdobeMax, I remember watching @CraigWinslow speak about his creative residency project with ghost signs. I've been much more aware of the faded images on brick and concrete ever since. It's like when your friend buys a new car and suddenly every other vehicle on the road is the same make and model. Our eyes ignore so many details in the day-to-day meander of life.
