on god i really would read a whole like. full length warriors book of a kittypet trying to explain housecat stuff to some like clan apprentice i always LOVED those types of scenes in the books.

How do you deal with animatics? I keep trying to make one but one way or another it never happeneds

Oh I feel this…the animatics I get the most progress on are the ones I plan out thoroughly. I usually start with a shot/beat breakdown like these (I do them on google sheets)

The second one is a very preliminary break down. It’s just to get the ideas down in front of me; I haven’t yet broken things down into individual shots.

Then from there I’ll either go straight into story boarding (like with the first one—I had a very clear idea of what I wanted for at least the first half, so I just jumped into it) or break it down further into what’s called “beat boards” which is basically just doing one drawing for each “beat” or significant moment or shot in the sequence. And then from there you keep breaking it down until you get a cohesive sequence!

It’s also worth mentioning I like to be quick with my sketches and don’t get too precious with them. If you’ve seen my storyboards, they’re usually uhhhhh pretty scribbly haha bc I just want to get the basic idea down and see if it works. Chances are you’ll throw out half if not most of your first passes, so just get those out quick so you don’t get too attached to any one drawing or composition!
