#5 Flower St - Zen Haircuts
This track had my music senses tingling and I immediately went searching for more of their stuff. Zen Haircuts will be releasing their Zen Haircuts EP in early 2017, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears clean.
Top Ten Tracks of 2016 (#6)
Oh my god.
This one came out of the blue for me. It's typically harder for songs released in the later part of the year to make favourite lists, but this one was immediate for me.

Cousin Tony's Brand New Firebird!
What a band name and what a year it has been for the abbreviated CTBNF. 'Melbourne Bitter' started it off and then the Melbourne band continued with the good stuff with 'Make It' and 'Cool Parties'.

This one still occupies a soft spot. Whenever it comes on the radio it only takes a second before you know you're in for four minutes of blissful CTBNF. That's why this makes #7 for me this year.

#8 Inside Voices - Mallrat
Mallrat's 'Inside Voices' is firmly inside my top ten Unearthed tracks of 2016. The Brisbane artist has produced something undeniably relatable with this one. Who doesn't get that sinking feeling that everyone's politeness is just a mask for what they really think of you? Just me? Oh. Well I'll just sit by myself in silence.

Continuing to countdown the top 10 tracks of 2016, we're moving on to Number Nine.
#9 Thankful - Feki
2014 and 2015 saw Feki receive some radio play love but I believe 2016 was the year the Brisbane producer really shone through.
From the fade in 'Thankful' is full of so many positive vibes. In a year many have seen as full of negativity we should remember that so much good has come from it too. That's the feeling Feki's 'Thankful' gives me and that's why it's made my top ten this year.
2017 COUNTDOWN

As the countdown to 2017 I'm celebrating by posting my ten favourite tracks for 2016.
These are my personal favourites, and believe me, it was so hard to pick these from all the great tracks that were released this year.
#10 Ngerraberrakernama - Emily Wurramara
Emily Wurramara has had a massive 2016, releasing her debut EP Black Smoke. Both 'Black Smoke' and 'Ngerraberrakernama' received lots of love from triple j and triple j Unearthed. While I love both of these tracks, 'Ngerraberrrakernama' wins it out for me purely by how catchy it is.
If you're a lucky Queenslander you can see her play at the Woodford Folk Festival on December 27. She's also heading off to the US in early 2017 to spread her beautiful music there.
Wishing Emily the best of luck with 2017! You've more than earned your place as one of the best catches from Unearthed in 2016.

ISLA KA - Words
This is an emotional ride from start to finish. ISLA KA definitely has a way with words.
Body Type - 264
This is a perfect slow-down-time track. The production is ace too, because I’m tempted to say it’s low-fi yet for it’s crispness, that it’s washed out yet for how clear it is. Thanks to fellow SuperUser Dave McCarthy for pointing this one out. Instantly enjoyed it.
Ruby Gill - Autumn
Ruby's vocals dance off the piano in a way that can easily get stuck in your head. That's why I've come back to this track again and again over the last few days and am finally reviewing. The story she tells is sad but in a way that is more cathartic than depressing. Great work.
IKE/YORA - Reckless
Now this is a collab project I can get behind. Reckless really drew me in on first listen. Brisbane-based Morgan Breikers is working with a multitude of other artists, the idea being that each song is created by a different team of people. And so far so good, I say.
Huntly - Heavy Sometimes The last minute and a half of this track gets me every time. Enough for me to make it this week’s Sunday Chill Track.
ANH & quickly, quickly - Preach
This is some smoooooooth stuff from ANH & quickly, quickly.
Azura - Midnight
I reviewed Nineteen a while back and Azura's newest track is just as full of that dreamy reverb and vocals, which immerse the listener in an other-worldly vision.
Lostkeyz - Horror Stories
There’s a lot of talent here. I can definitely see this young artist going places.
Zen Haircuts - Flower St
Heard this for the first time last night and instantly liked it. Now I’m super excited to hear more of their tracks.
Introvert - Everything is Different Now The energy and intensity coming from Introvert in their debut EP is phenomenal. Listen to them through Unearthed or on bandcamp here.
Darling James - God’s Graffiti
Darling James profile reads:
Now Darling James brings us new single ‘God’s Graffiti’, a mix of exotic instrumentation (zither, marimba) over a head-nodding dance beat laced with guttural fuzzed-out guitar and a wonky sing-along chorus.
I couldn’t describe this track better myself. What I will say is that Darling James’ latest release is a lot of fun to listen to (maybe it is something to do with that exotic instrumentation).
