I would once more like to say I don't detest first person in general, nor do I think its content is inferior. A lot of superb literature (yes fanfiction is literature) is in first person!! It's not my cup of tea for fiction that I've already consumed from a different perspective. If you like it, please, PLEASE keep writing it. This was just a funny little post that blew up.

Will Byers could commit heinous crimes. He could kidnap the president of the united states, he could commit tax fraud, he could rob a store, he could snap people's bones and gouge out their eyes vecna-style. he could pour milk in the bowl first before the cereal, and still, he would have done no wrong. will byers could never do any wrong.
this fandom is so mean sometimes when it comes to even the most basic of fandom shit like. i get it, ST is relatively mainstream, a lot of yall have never been in fandoms before, but the stuff folks call out as "cringe" behavior (or worse) in fandom is quite literally stuff that has always been a part of fandom and always will. people cosplaying, kinning characters, shipping characters who have barely spoken in canon, going to nerdy conventions, overanalyzing every scene w/ ur fave character in it, crying over characters, writing fanfiction and making art of whatever the fuck you want since you're doing it for free and for fun... this is fandom culture. if you dont like it you don't have to engage with it and its so easy to block/not interact with content you don't like.
it's so bitter to watch how many people are only now realising that the censorship of "morally bad" things will never stop at just the things they personally find repulsive. the problem with morals is that they're not a fixed norm that everyone agrees on and that they're a very easy argument to be used by bigots against marginalised groups. that's why it's dangerous to call for censorship on moral grounds - whose morals exactly?
all you people campaigning for a boycott of ao3, wanting them to censor "bad" content, i am begging you to wake the fuck up and understand that for many people "bad" things include queer people's existence, any form of sexual content, minority-representation and criticism of the government.

thank you so much!!! yeah, i grew up in the supernatural fandom from like age 10 so it was always just super normalized to ship and let ship and explore whatever sexy or dark content you want through fiction. i'm asexual and this is just a way for me to explore sexuality and this aspect of the characters i love, and there's nothing wrong with that!
fiction doesn't reflect morality and this weird puritanical thinking is akin to satanic panic, or saying that video games cause violent behaviors, etc etc. people dont call the duffers pedos for writing stancy, people dont hate on sex education or heartbreak high. people don't think the write of You is actually a serial stalker and murderer. but as soon as its a lone person on the internet writing fanfiction it's a problem. let us mash these characters together like barbie dolls in my head in peace!!!!

the whole party had a crush on Lucas at some point. he doesn’t know this, but it’s a fact.
it probably gets revealed during a hangout in like senior year. they’re talking abt embarrassing crushes and Will ends up admitting that he had a small crush on Lucas in like fifth grade (and if mike is exploding Lucas with his mind? that's neither here nor there). Lucas just pats Will on the shoulder like “it's okay. it can be hard to resist all this”.
but then Dustin chimes in with a “I gotta admit, I definitely had a crush on you too Lucas”. and Lucas is kinda shocked, but expresses a similar sentiment, “like I said, I’m hard to resist”.
then El just nods & says “me too” with a shrug like that doesn't blow Lucas's mind. “wow. I knew I was arguably the most desirable party member but this is kinda shocking guys.”
Max just swats at his arm but agrees with a smile on her face. they all laugh at them and are about to move on when Mike mutters something under his breath. Will busts up laughing from his place next to Mike. and now Max & Dustin HAVE to know what it was. mike ends blushing up to his ears, covering his face while saying, louder this time, “I may have also had... a small... tiny... minuscule… crushonLucastooinlikethirdgrade” and THAT makes Lucas guffaw, “WHEELER! YOU DID NOT!” “Holy shit this is the best thing I’ve ever heard!” “I fucking knew it!”
Dustin is laughing quietly with El while Lucas and Max attempt to breathe through their wheezing. Mike just groans noisily on the floor, rolling over into Wills lap while he laughs at him and pats his head in fake sympathy.

Okay yes the Mike and Hopper hostility is very funny, and it's very funny to imagine Hopper thinking he got rid of Mike when he and El break up only to realize Mike is now dating his son.
However,
Imagine Mike suddenly becoming far more respectful to Hopper now that he's dating Will and Hopper being completely baffled by this.
Mike's finally in a relationship that he actually cares about maintaining. He knows he and Will are going to be together for the rest of their lives. Therefore he and Hopper are going to be in each other's lives forever. So they may as well get along, right?
And he knows that Will loves Hopper, and Will finally getting to have a loving and supportive father figure makes him so happy. How could he be a jerk to the man that is giving Will something he's always needed?
(Yes all of this applied to El too, but Mike was never very sensitive to El's feelings. And we know he is very sensitive to Will's.)
So Mike stops insulting Hopper. (For the most part.) He keeps the door open three inches. (When Hopper is home.) And he makes and effort to foster a positive relationship with Hopper.
Sure, he slips up sometimes. Maybe even frequently. Mike is a bitch (affectionate) so some bitchiness is inevitable. But Hopper can see that he's trying.
Also, we all know that Mike and Hopper’s canon relationship isn't just a rivalry. Hopper cares about Mike, a lot. And Hopper is probably more of a father figure to Mike than Ted ever was. So there's a basis of affection and mutual respect there.

So give me Mike calling Hopper 'Sir' and Hopper looking at him like he has three heads. Give me Mike clinging to Will constantly, but separating himself and keeping a respectful distance when Hopper enters the room, until Hopper rolls his eyes and says, 'It's okay, kid.' at which point Mike grins and resumes clinging to Will. Give me Mike awkwardly trying to make small talk with Hopper. Give me Mike getting Hopper a Christmas present. Give me Mike making sure he gets Will home by curfew unless Hopper is covering the night shift and won't be home anyway.
But yes, give me a dash of Hopper and Mike hostility too. Give me Mike holding Will's hand at the dinner table and Hopper asking, 'Wheeler, do you think you're physically able to go more that five seconds without touching Will?' And Mike responding, 'Wow, old man. I didn't know you hated gay people.' And Will has to stifle his laughter as Joyce lightly hits Hopper for teasing them.
Give me the one time Hopper comes home to the door not being open three inches, but in fact being locked. And give me Hopper pounding on the door threatening to take it off the hinges, until Mike opens the door, rolling his eyes and says, 'Relax, old man, we forgot.' And Hopper dubiously responding with 'You forgot you locked the door?' And Mike sheepishly shrugging.
Give me Hopper being so happy that Mike and El figured out what was best for both of them and that Will is finally happy. Will, the son of the woman he loves. Will, the kid he went through hell to find, the kid he never gave up looking for even after finding his body. Will, the kid he watched be possessed by the mindflayer and go through unimaginable pain, while also being there for Joyce as she went through it with him. And now, Will. His son.
Give me Hopper not being able to stay mad at Mike anymore anyway, because he sees just how much he and Will love each other. And he trusts Mike with Will. You don't hurt someone who you love that much. You protect them. He knows Mike will protect Will, just like he has.
Give me Hopper loving Will and Mike so much, but showing it in his own Hoppery way. Give me Mike and Will walking around Hawkins holding hands because if anyone bothers them, the Cheif of Police will be on their ass to cite them for harassment.
i made a post about this before but i feel like people are so eager to go to the other extreme in their desire not to baby will. like yeah he's capable and he knows how to use a gun and he can be mean and he daydreams about felony with a grin on his face... but he still is sensitive and kind? those aren't flaws that he has to fix, and they are an essential part of his charm without which the other half isn't as appealing. here is the sweetest kid you know. if u ever ask him why he's always so quiet, he'll ask you why you never shut the fuck up. and he'll look so cute while doing it
