✖ HISTORY
Salvador Martinez was twenty five when he visited Aspen, Calorado. His brother, Valentino, had called with an emergency. Insisting Salvador come to his own home state and leave the only home he had ever known in Ecatepec de Morelos. Being such a family man, Salvador did as his twin asked and instantly joined him, only to find the man with a child.... a child Salvador learned on this visit belonged to him.
Fast forward two years later, Salvador has a new job at a small ski lodge and has established a new life in Denver. He’s met a wonderful woman. He’s grown connected to his new son, and on a snowy night in February he welcomed a daughter.
Aspen; the place Salvador felt his true life began. Where his family grew.
Marisol; a Spanish name translating to sun and sea, almost projecting her future life.
February 21st, 1998: Aspen Marisol Martinez was born.
✖ CHILDHOOD
Aspen grew up obsessed with her older brother. Mateo was her world. Some would say she followed him around like a puppy. She learned everything from him. Things he ate, she had to too, even if it was something she hated. Parker went through a phase where she hated corn, so when Mateo would eat it, Aspen would throw a fit for it to, ending in Aspen just watching her brother eat and refusing to eat herself.
So when Mateo asked to start spending time with their Uncle Val, Aspen was confused. She knew their uncle lived nearby, but Mateo was the only one that seemed to acknowledge the man. Mateo wanted to go though, so starting when Mateo started school, they always spent a few weeks with their uncle every summer.
Aspen would fill up her Lisa Frank backpack with coloring books, crayons, and her blanket she slept with every night. She might have been two but she had already learned so much from her brother. So she stuffed her favorite things into her backpack and her pacifier in her mouth (though Mateo always made her leave it every time).
✖ BEFORE SS UNIVERISITY
By the time Aspen was a teenager, her childhood scribbles had turned into full on costume ideas. She now was full on designing Mateo’s dance costumes. While he would practice, Aspen would sit on his bedroom floor, hand sewing each stich in an attempt to make things perfect.
By teenage years, her cooking skills had also improved. It had become a tradition that the girl (by age ten) to create her own Mexican food for anyone’s birthday. By seventeen she had perfected her Tres Leches cake as well. Something she was proud of.
“We’d get there a lot faster if you’d walk..” he spoke, moving so that he was now in front of her, walking in the direction of what he assumed was Disneyland. “But, what do I know. I’m just older, wiser and make much better decisions than you.”
Aspen narrowed her eyes at him, “Don’t make me do it.” she spoke, looking around and preparing herself to scream like the annoying little sister she was.
“I know. I’ll pay for your lunch while we’re there if we go now. Before I change my mind.” he spoke. “Might even convince me to buy matching shirts or whatever it is siblings do in Disney.”
“Aye aye aye…” his voice contained a hint of a laugh as he looked at his younger sister. “Very impressive, Pen.. impressive indeed.” he complimented. “I didn’t say i had to like them. Alright, you win. Just take me to Disney.”
Aspen laughed, “You see, I said I’d pay for your ears, No es tu boleto.”The girl shook her head, tugging him in between crowds of people, “Besides. If I buy you Minnie ears I can steal then later. Win Win.”
“No, no, no..” Mateo shook his head. “That was not part of the agreement.” he sighed, looking back at her as he shook his head. “However, I guess it wouldn’t kill me to amuse the baby sister now would it?”
“You just said ears.” She responded, “Nadie dijo que te tenían que gustar.“
“Yo debería haber sabido..” Mateo chuckled, watching as the younger sibling practically begged him. “We can go. But only if you promise to buy me some ears this time. With your money this time, Pen.” Mateo spoke. “I’m serious. Your money or it’s a no.”
Aspen narrowed her eyes at the male before smiling widely, “Fine.” she spoke, taking his hand, “But they’re gonna have a bow.” she laughed, dragging him after her.
Aspen popped another bite of popcorn into her mouth and pouted, “Please? We’re just here for a few more days. I need to go to Disney just once in my life. Just an hour!” @seasstarts
