Hana started giggling at Hajime sputtering at being splashed, but she hadn’t seen him splashing her back coming. “Eeep!” She squeaked playfully. Clearly her attempt to try to get him to smile had worked, and now it was time to make the most of it.
She hopped down from the tidepools so he wouldn’t be able to fall in and hurt himself, and made her way to the beach. ‘This‘ll even the playing ground and be more fun.’ When she got to the water she dove in and swam around as she lay in wait for him. ‘The bag with my clothes and other stuff is there so he’ll probably figure out I’m here…’
Hana couldn’t help but feel almost giddy at having someone to play with. Normally she spent her time at the beach just searching for shells, or surfing on her own. For her it was one of the few places she could be alone, and after school days with obnoxious classmates she needed it more than ever.
“Huh?” When she ran away, he blinked in surprise for a moment, mentally going over the last few seconds. She didn’t seem upset. More like she was playing around.
Did she want him to follow her?
...Ugh. He was overthinking this. At the very least, he should go make sure she didn’t slip and fall on a rock or something. He climbed down from the tide pools after her, but it seemed she could cover a lot more ground than her short stature might imply.
“Uh, hello?” Too late he realized he hadn’t even asked for her name yet. This social interaction was going great. He scanned the beach. There was a blip of something laying on the beach so he made his way over to it, noticing soon enough that it was the bag she had been carrying earlier.
A concerned frown crossed his face. They weren’t very far at all from the part of the beach he’d been moping around. This water still didn’t look very safe for swimming. He stood at the shore with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Seriously...? Didn’t I just say we shouldn’t swim around here?” He scanned the choppy water intently for a sign of her red swimsuit lurking underneath.
