Ex-aid and drive actually annoy me in the same way. In Drive it was like ‘hey wouldn’t you like a girl rider? You can’t have one! We’re going to bring it up multiple times how kiriko can’t and won’t be a rider! You sillies thinking women can do things’ and with exaid it’s like ‘hey we have girl riders!!! What you want them to actually do things? No, instead we’re going to fake you out into THINKING they can do things!!!’ Like

Akari never became a rider or got to transform but that was fine because the narrative never like. Teased us with it. She had her own role in the story and got to do things and have her own character arcs and it was Good. Mana never got to be Agito but she was a solid character. Hirose never got to transform but the show wasn’t like ‘haha she CANT be a rider even though she WANTS to be’ like she had a role where she was doing her own thing and it was good. Hina never got to be a rider but like while her character arc was a bit flawed it wasn’t because of that. Rinko never got to be a rider in the show proper but she had her own role and we were never teased with the idea of ‘what if she could’. Imo the issue is a lot less about ‘let women be riders’ and more 'stop baiting the viewers into thinking you’ll treat a female character with respect and then going back on it.’ It’s so frustrating. I love ex aid and I love Nico and Poppy but I just wish it wasn’t so. Like that.
