They speak of dreams as if they were made of sunlight โ
soft, warm, harmless.
They tell you to chase them,
as if every desire leads to glory
and every wish ends in gold.
But nobody warns you
that the road to your dream
is paved with shadows.
Nobody tells you
that light always creates a darker shape behind it.
Nobody mentions
that dreams are not gentle โ
they are demanding.
They take.
They transform.
They break you open
before they ever build you up.
Dreams can crown you.
But they can dethrone you just as quickly.
Because in the moment you reach for something greater,
you awaken everything inside you
that was never meant to be tamed.
All your fears,
your doubts,
your buried wounds
rise with the same intensity
as your ambitions.
And suddenly,
you realize the truth they never said out loud:
Dreams come true, yes โ
but so do nightmares.
Not the monsters under your bed,
but the ones inside your chest.
The ones shaped like your insecurities.
The ones that whisper
youโre not enough.
The ones that try to drag you back
into the person youโve outgrown.
But hereโs the secret:
Nightmares donโt appear to destroy you.
They show up to test you.
To see if your dream is strong enough
to survive the darkness that comes with it.
To see if you are strong enough
to become the person your destiny requires.
And when you walk through that darkness,
step after trembling step,
you realize:
The nightmare was never your enemy.
It was your initiation.
So let the world promise you dreams.
Let them forget to warn you about the shadows.
Because you โ
you were never meant for easy wishful thinking.
You were built for the kind of dream
that demands courage.
The kind that requires transformation.
The kind that turns nightmares
into the path toward your own throne๐
Summary: Youโre a woman during their time period who has worked insanely hard in order to be in the position you are in now. Not taken seriously by society or your peers, when your town is affected by a series of suspicious deaths and disappearances, youโre quick to investigate. What you donโt realize is that the killer is infatuated with both you and the chase, and theyโre going to follow you to hell and back.
Notes: Requested by an anon! Iโm sorry, tumblr for some reason wouldnโt let me reply to your request but I hope you still see thisโฆ I went a little different than your ideas imo but I hope you still enjoy! I have never written for Alastor so I hope I did him justice. Ironically, I think I enjoyed writing his part more than Vox.
๐๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ:
For Alastor, I like the idea of him being friends with the person who is trying to capture himโ or, the closest thing Alastor could really have to a friend.
You take on a case about a serial killer in the area and youโre eager to investigate, both to prove yourself and to put a stop to the deaths. Women were very rarely given to have such an occupation in the 30โs and solving something like this with hardly any leads would be such a milestone.
You and Alastor are not especially close, but youโve definitely met and interacted with him before. Ironically enough, you find him intriguing. Iโm not sure if this still is true, but I remember in the pilot era Alastor was often described as a gentleman who respects women far more than men, and I imagine this holds up.
He has never made you feel inferior for being a woman, nor has he ever implied to you that you cannot do your job. Alastor is very respectful towards you and gives you no reason to question him whatsoever.
You go insane trying to decipher this case, not knowing that the very man committing these crimes is right under your nose and finding your failure wildly amusing.
Alastor believes heโs too smart to ever be caught, which in all honesty is sort of true. Who would suspect the charming, popular radio host to be a murderer?
He sees newspaper articles published about someone investing his crimes, and heโs very prepared to just get the inconvenience out of the way.
That is, until he realizes it is you.
While Alastor will never see anyone higher than himself, he admires you greatly. He understands the difficulties you face and acknowledges your strengths and the effort youโve put in to get to where you are. I feel like as a mixed man in the 20โs he would be able to understand to a slight extent, although racism and misogyny are two separate problems.
That being said, he still doesnโt believe you will ever catch him at all; however, he will let you live. He enjoys watching you try your best to keep up with him and gets a strange feeling of enjoyment every time you come close. Youโre always right on his trail yet just far enough for him to be in the clear. It gives him a sense of entertainment that he never knew he needed, and he even finds himself infatuated with you in an odd sort of way.
Youโve become a very core piece in his life and he doesnโt want you to stop any time soon. Every time he sees you he ironically wishes you luck in your endeavors, and he partially does mean it. Itโs no fun if youโre completely off. Alastor likes the thrill he gets when youโre close to catching him, but not close enough to ruin his fun.
He might even try to get closer to you personally afterward, getting a sick sense of amusement knowing that youโre unknowingly spending so much time with the very man you want behind bars. That and he just genuinely enjoys your company, but he doesnโt want to admit that.
I could see him planting evidence for you as well, eager to see what you would do with it. He even sometimes stalks you while youโre investigating, entertaining himself with your displeasure.
Heโs very irritated when you meet your end. Part of the fun of committing his crimes was tied to your little game, and while heโs not going to stop just because of you, he does so with a little less enthusiasm. Heโs also kind of sad that youโre gone and he cannot spend time with you any more but he ignores that feeling as well.
He reminisces about you often both in life and when he eventually falls to Hell. Many other people take up the case after your passing, but none live long enough to make an impression. Heโs quick to dispose of them. None of them give him the same thrill as you did.
You yourself are also in Hell, growing accustomed to the environment, when you hear rumors of a new overlord rising up the ranks by the name of Alastor. Youโre a little bit surprised, but donโt think much of it at first.
But when you finally see him, youโre completely caught off guard, realizing just how much went under your nose. Youโre bitter, both from being manipulated and failing to solve what would have been your greatest accomplishment before your life was stolen from you. How dare he.
You avoid him and any mentions of him, until decades later you end up seeking redemption at the โHazbin Hotel,โ and are finally forced to confront ghosts of your past.
I imagine a situation like this with Vincent would be slightly different. Throughout watching the whole Brighter sequence, the only thing I could think was โhow the actual hell is this guy just casually getting away with all of this?โ I know a large part of Voxโs character is his ability to manipulate the masses, but I just feel like most people with common sense would be able to notice the pattern of important people in the entertainment industry dying except for Vincent, who is magically taking all of these peopleโs places almost as soon as they pass.
The only explanation I can think of is just that heโs too privileged for anyone to do anything about it. He seems to be an allegory for people like Elon Musk and Donald Trump, and while many people recognize how horrible these people are, a large chunk donโt, or do and donโt care, which allows them to stay in power.
Political rant aside, I can see you totally knowing that Vincent is the culprit of all of these โsudden deaths,โ but no one believes you due to you being a woman and him beingโฆ well, a powerful rich white man in the 60โs.
Heโs totally smug about it, taunting you and even threatening you if you ever get a bit of time alone with him. Heโs secretly very scared of being caught though, and sees you as a total nuisance. He doesnโt get enjoyment from being chased like Alastor does, but moreso gets enjoyment from the fact that heโs so powerful you canโt do much to him.
If you ever provide evidence of his actions? Your supervisors barely acknowledge it. Little do you know, heโs buddy-buddy with loads of the people at the police station, and heโs got them completely wrapped around his finger.
Heโs not letting someone like you completely ruin the image heโs invented for himself. He stalks you often to make sure youโre not getting any closer, and completely ruins your hard work often.
He finds you infuriating. How dare you be so insistent, so stubborn, and alsoโฆ attractive.
Yeah, heโs totally down bad for you and in complete denial about it. He would never be interested in someone so annoying, he tries to convince himself; but he very much is, and secretly kind of gets off to your obsession with catching him.
He loves mocking you and making you feel small, and I could see him eventually even ruining your life. He could get you fired from you job, and blast your name in the media for trying to take his empire away from him. He portrays you as a liar and corrupt detective, pushing out as much propaganda as you can.
You settle for a dead end job afterwards, extremely bitter and upset that all of your hard work has gone to waste because of this man.
Eventually, stories come out about him after his deathโ that he was starting up something close to a cult within the studio, leading to the deaths of both him and various employees of the channel. He electrocuted them all in a manic spiral, and people are now finally acknowledging the corrupt nature of Vincent Whittman.
And who gets credit for this information being brought to light? Not you! In fact, nothing seems to change about your situation. No one acknowledges or apologizes to you, and you donโt even get your job back. You grow even more angry and bitter over the years, resenting both the dead man and the men in power who have failed you in general.
Little do you know when you die and get to Hell, Vincent has grown to perhaps even more power down there, and still regularly thinks about you. Heโs changed his name and heโs now cursed with a strange new form, but you recognize the man who ruined your life.
You take on a new identity, planning on taking his company down from the inside.
But Vox does recognize you. He wonโt let you know this any time soon, but heโs keeping a close eye on you, and heโs not going to let you try to take him down again. He has other plans for you.
