The Unknown
Part one: the history.
The Unknown is a hidden island in Xaria. Originally, it was the birthplace of the fae, but after some time, a great evil ransacked the land. At the time it went by Enoch Cypher, a great and terrible Fae Lord. He grew to power faster than most, and quickly climbed the social latter with him smooth talking.
One day though, something in him seemed to crack somehow. His usually dramatic demeanor turned dark, and his actions while still maintaining some smoothness became erratic. The usual welcoming warm and alluring kindness started to warp to warm chaos so inviting and intoxicating you didn't realize you were scared till he left you alone. So many fell to his alluring destruction and painted the whole land in nightmares, others worked together to stop the chaos he was sowing.
Eventually, those who followed him started to realize and fight. Which finally gave the rebels a better chance. After many battles and awakenings, Enoch Cypher was left alone with the whole Fae Wildland turned against him. They separated him in two.
One called themselves Enoch. Enoch looked like he wore a pumpkin as a head, with long black streamer-like tentacles at his command attached to the bottom of the pumpkin. The tentacles used to walk even though seemingly too small to support anything. His voice and attitude like his younger self, smooth and intoxicating.
The other called himself Cypher. Cypher was worse than what he had grown into. He was obsessed with killing, blood, and chaos. He took the form of an ever-morphing shape which was eventually classified as the "Morphing Chaos Primordial", a new class for what seemed to be a Chaos Elemental and an Eldrich Horror combined. It quickly made a mess of that around it, eventually escaping, making a cult, murdering the wrong people, and resulting in advanced imprisonment inside a mountain. He now resides in some mountain, long forgotten and frozen forever conscious of his life but unable to do anything but stew over his imprisonment, slowly driving him more insane.
Enoch, too, eventually became a worry, after seeing what his other half was capable of. Eventually, the High Fae Council decided to enclose these wilds to their own and created a being they called "Beast Watcher". The Beast Watcher was innocuous at first. But just as the being it was watching over, it corrupted with time. Then the mushrooms began to grow.
(*This uses an ecosystem that was built by someone else. I will link the information I used at the end*)
The Beast Watcher grew darker after being a guard for so long that he now was referred to as "The Beast". He was now what went bump in the night. Eager to find something worth being stuck forever inside a cage, he began to torture the locals - learning of their darkest nightmares and worst things to take from them to break them. He won sometimes, and lost others- but he always tempted people to stay trapped in a fate worse than death, just like he was. I think he would see it as 'evening the playing field' so others had to suffer as he does. I see it as him wanting to have something to control when everything else seems helpless, it's sad really.
Enoch honestly just became your stereotypical cult leader. He has a liking for the Fae, the Undead, and the weirdos. Nothing seems too crazy about him yet, but there's something about him that feels dangerous, like Icarus flying too close to the sun- you can feel your wax wings melt as you get too close to him, but the feeling of his warmth feels a little too good. But like Icarus, you too shall get burnt, as all things that feel too good to be true usually are.
