Three Patch Times: Issue #6 - A Doctor Strange Primer
This month, we had a special guest in our Marvel themed newsletter, Basil, Doctor Strange aficionado supreme ( tumblr @albaaca or twitter @shitlockposting). He graciously typed us some introductions to comics to give you some background on the character after Avengers: Infinity War. We only had space for two in the newsletter (sign up here for monthly features like this one!), so we wanted to showcase the rest of them here. Enjoy & go give Basil some love for all this Doctor Strange goodness.
Getting into comics can be daunting, especially with such a classic character as Doctor Strange who’s have multiple comic runs, crossover appearances, and hundreds of cameos. Here’s a good place to start!
The following are solo comics, I won’t include big crossover or team up comics, but if you’re interested in those, Stephen was a big part on the first Defenders (1971) run where he teamed up with the Silver Surfer, The Hulk and Namor.
Doctor Strange: Season One
Doctor Strange: Season One is a gorgeously drawn and modern take on Strange’s origin story, that follows the basic points of the classic accident that lead Strange into a life of magic with a couple of twists, such as making The Ancient One the more chill old man he is usually depicted as now in the comics and giving Stephen a very similar personality as his MCU counterpart. Also, Wong is a angry, rebellious twenty year old, and he’s perfect!
