8 pages for my new comic!
what could it mean when you dream about someone's laugh, I do wonder mmmmmmm...
slightly lighter colour than previous comics, otherwise it was a tad overwhelming towards the end.
Just mohabbot so knackered after a night shift that they fell asleep straight away on the sofa : "Let's just chill for five minutes before we eat."
didn't last five minutes, but two hours.
Still thinking about this fic since reading it yesterday. Mohabbot falling in love by phone š« š« š« š«

she could go to jupiter and heāll find her.
i just need one (1) singular person to ask a) why is langdon still there then? b) why is samira leaving months before her residency is finished? and c) why does this ārevolving castā principle only seem to apply to women of color?
i really donāt mean to be so negative and hysterical and whatever people are going to accuse me of about this, but the showrunner acting like his hands are tied re: writing out a beloved character before it makes sense for her to leave⦠man, you write the show! itās up to you! saying āthatās the best we can doā like someone is forcing you reads to me as so unbelievably disrespectful. like thatās actually not the best you could do. you could keep young actors employed in an incredibly unstable business, you could care one singular bit about your audience and giving them any degree of satisfying resolution, you could apply the revolving door principle across the board & not just when itās a convenient excuse for getting rid of an actor or character you donāt feel like dealing with anymore.
the backlash to the backlash over supriya ganesh leaving the pitt is really starting to reek of misogyny to me.
tv fans being upset with the showrunners and writers of their favorite series is not a new concept. its happened as long as television has existed. itās not exclusive to the pitt, and itās not exclusive to young women, but the way that the tide in this case has so quickly turned to āyou people are hysterical and you donāt get how tv worksā i do think has to do with the fact that so many of the people expressing their dissatisfaction about this decision are women in their twenties and thirties. we must inherently be acting from an irrational place!! it must be about samiraās proximity to fansā favorite white man on the show!! we just donāt get that itās not bad, actually, because her place on the show is being filled with another queer woman of color!!! weāre so blinded by our desire to self-insert that we canāt appreciate how many woc are still on the show!!!!
i think there are people that have written thoughtfully about how ayesha harrisā promotion to series regular has been overshadowed in a really unfortunate way by supriyaās departure, and i do think the fact that parker ellis is likely a canonical lesbian & samira is likely not (& is involved in a fan-favorite heterosexual ship) is an interesting factor to consider in peopleās varying degrees of attachment to both characters. but the fact of the matter is that (intentional or not on hbo maxās part), these announcements arrived in a way that implied a message of ādonāt worry, weāre not racist!ā that i donāt blame fans for taking in bad faith. the characters are not equivalent; we as the audience have different relationships to them. right now ellis is a character that we havenāt had a ton of substantial time with, and we donāt know well. samira is. it makes sense that thereās a more intense relationship there. is it worth integrating whether some of that is tied to mohabbot as a ship? yes. but to say thatās all it is is, to me, quite frankly, the same flavor of misogyny that implies women canāt understand dramatic storylines without the inclusion of romance. young women related to samira in ways that had nothing to do with whatever romantic dynamics they were or were not developing for her in the show. the character is more than her relationship to abbot, and fanās love for her is more than that as well.
iām also disturbed by how quickly the online conversation shifted from āsupriyaās leaving, thatās upsetting, that sucks, why is this happening?ā to ālook at these insane, unhinged fans in noah wyleās comment section!!! on second thought, itās good sheās gone!ā the vast majority of people expressing anger about supriya being written off the show were not taking our frustrations to noah wyleās instagram to leave death threats. acting like that was the average fanās baseline response to this news is, again, lumping a very real frustration about the pittās pattern of dismissing women of color into a relatively fringe & extremely shitty response. i can only speak for myself, but iām aware that noah wyle is not the sole creative force behind this show. there are several other executive producers and a whole team of writers. i think targeting frustration at noah alone is misguided & unfair, and those frustrations taking the form of harassment or spreading misinformation is helping absolutely no one, including supriya. but i donāt think that frustration is in and of itself wrong or irrational or representative of some unique brand of never-before-seen fandom psychosis.
itās troubling to me that people have been so eager to do hboās work for them in going a) āwell look! they added another woman of color! you canāt be mad!ā without considering that woc are not interchangeable, and people can be upset over losing supriya specifically because of the character they played, not just because of their race or gender, or b) āall these samira stans clearly donāt know how to watch tv, her whole storyline this season has been about her leaving!ā when her entire storyline this season has actually been about her scrambling to find a way to stay in pittsburgh (side note: i think a huge issue is that people donāt understand what a fellowship is, and that samira isnāt deciding to leave emergency medicine for geriatrics or whatever she chooses but rather specialize further in EM, and iām going to blame the show for not making that clearer), or c) āitās just realistic for her to leave! itās just realistic!! people donāt make it!! sheās not suited for the emergency department!ā when the show is perfectly happy to bend reality for other characters to stay (langdon, whitaker) or return (dana) when in real life they might not, and when āsheās wrong for EMā has quite frankly never been the story that the show has been telling.
not to be petty, but all of the above reasoning is making me feel like the people making those arguments are the ones that are bad at watching tv! to be honest, i watch tv & movies professionally. i know that iām good at it, and perfectly capable of character analysis. despite all of that (or maybe because of it!) iām upset about supriyaās departure. not because sheās the whole show to me, or because i donāt understand that robby is the lead, or because i donāt care about other characters, but because i do, and i think the pitt is a weaker show without samira as a character. and iām a woman who related to & felt represented by her. multiple things can be true.
sports fans riot in the streets when their teams lose. they burn things & break windows. i donāt really want to hear another male entertainment journalistās perspective on why the pitt fans are being just so insane about this news.
iām never going to stop writing & talking about samira mohan, by the way.
The departure of Samira Mohan and some of the responses to it can really boil down to a few salient points. All of which are... not informed, to say the least.
"She's a senior resident, of course she's leaving next season."
It's been confirmed for just about as long as we've known the show was getting renewed that season three would be a smaller time jump than between seasons one and two. That means, the time jump will be less than ten months. Which means that Samira Mohan will still be an R4.
There are residency programs that allow you to finish early if you complete all of your program's requirements ahead of time, but all of them are promote-in-place programs. Which means that even if Samira finished her residency early, she would need to be an attending at PTMC.
"But she's applying to a fellowship. It makes sense that she won't be there."
You cannot do a fellowship in a subspeciality without being at least board-eligible for your specialty. Samira will not be board-eligible until she finishes her residency on June 30, 2027.
"Her entire story has been about how she's not fit for emergency medicine."
Categorically, no. Samira Mohan's story has been about how she is the person that Robby transfers all of his fragmented parts of self onto. He does not see Samira Mohan. He sees the younger, more idealistic, more empathetic version of himself. When he is triggered and one of those younger parts surfaces, he lashes out at her.
By destroying her confidence and sense of self, that is what her story has become.
In season one, Samira Mohan's storyline was about how she had a grounded sense of self through the creation of stable priorities, values, and ethics as an emergency medicine physician. It was about how she may see things differently than her colleagues, but that does not make her any less valuable to the emergency department at PTMC. It was about how she can in fact, both take her time and be thorough with her patients to ensure they receive proper care and treatment, and flourish in an MCI situation with limited time and resources.
"Samira's storyline is just over, that's all. We'll see it wrapped up in the final episodes."
From Supriya's interview with Collider after episode 10:
You mentioned Mohan wanting a letter of recommendation from Robby, and there is a moment in this episode where she mentions she was hoping to circle up with Abbot to ask him for one. Her decision about what kind of specialty she wants to pursue has been hovering over her storyline this season. Do you feel like she's any closer to deciding what she wants to do than before, or is this question going to continue even heading into Season 3? GANESH: If she starts the day with that question, it's very likely she's going to end the day with that question. If we wanted to push things along like that, things wouldn't be interesting. So I definitely think that she's asking for the recommendation because she would like to stay, but I don't know if that's something that initially gets resolved.
"Samira is being written off because Supriya Ganesh is going to medical school."
We literally don't know that. And taking their responses to questions out of context from a Teen Vogue interview that was conducted back in February isn't helpful.
"But Samira wants to leave PTMC."
Not according to Supriya Ganesh's interview with Collider:
"Robby's consistently hot and cold with her. It's a very paternal type of dynamic where you're not sure whether it's going to be a good day or bad day, especially with that type of fraught relationship. For her, she just wants to continue to impress him and feel... especially because she's looking for a place at PTMC next year, and she's a little like, "Okay, should I ask him for a recommendation?" She just wants to be on good terms with him, so she isn't really picking at him in the same way as he does in the following hours. I definitely think she's hoping she can get back on his good side."
"It's just realism."
From a television show that has fumbled the seriousness of a shoulder dystocia, how mandated reporting works in cases of suspected child abuse, and the proper HR protocol of re-integrating Langdon into the workplace.
Is it realistic for season 3 to be Samira's day off, or that she's at an away elective in New Jersey moving her shit out of her mom's house, or that she (or someone else!) finally reported Robby to HR for his treatment of her, and now they can't be on the same shift? Sure. Fine.
"It's just a storytelling decision."
And who is telling that story? Who are the executive producers? Who is the showrunner? Who are the lead writers?
Who made this decision to cut her out of season three, when Supriya Ganesh was still talking to the media pretty recently about her excitement about getting the script for season three, since Samira's arc in season two did not wrap up neatly, did have loose ends, and did need resolution. Who made the decision to write off Heather Collins? Who made the decision that it was Kiara's day off, that Gloria wouldn't get involved with the cyber attack?
Warning: spoilers very much ahead.
I actually have really loved Samiraās s2 storyline and everything Supriya Ganesh had to say about it in this interviewāSamiraās increased confidence stood out so much to me in the first few episodes, and s2 really has felt like one of those days where the most frustrating possible blend of professional and personal things occurs and itās just heartbreaking that sheās so shaken by it to the point of feeling her relationship with her mentor backslide, and, more importantly, her confidence in herself taking a hit. It feels painful and real and, tbh, juicy and interesting and toxic and dramatic, which makes for excellent TV. It does not feel to me like Robby has yelled at her every single day from September to July, or like Samira has been panicking and crumbling in her resolve to practice medicine every single day from September to July.
I think itās really crucial for strong peopleās stories to include room for them to fuck up (like yelling at Princess because she doesnāt want to talk to her mom on the phone, like missing a huge warning sign in an ultrasound) and to feel shaken (like Orlandoās story bringing up the loss of her own father) and to not always have the perfect retort when someone is being mean to them and to not always have the resolve to maintain oneās self-confidence while having to completely remake their career plans. I LOVE that she points out her lack of empathy towards her mom being about loathing her own loneliness to the point of refusing to see her momās, and how thatās mirrored in Robbyās refusal to be empathetic towards Samiraās panic and personal struggles because it reminds him too much about hating his own.
Iām still really curious about the circumstances of Ganeshās departure (and so disappointed and sad she wonāt be in s3) in large part because it seems simultaneously true that Mohan is realistically cobbling together a future that could require time away from PTMC and because itās felt to me like her story was about deciding that she is in fact cut out for emergency medicine but that her lack of social support and outside-of-work outlets were causing her life to be unsustainable. I would have been really interested to see what that looked like her going forward. And I wish the announcement about her departure had names attached even as I understand that as an audience member Iām not owed information about private workplace decisions.
(Just wanted to offer up some of Ganeshās own words about her plot arcāthe interview itself includes tons more character backstory and stuff she, the writers, and producers all thought about both independently and togetherāas well as my own opinion about what a great character she is and how seeing her struggles and how those struggles are handled in the text of the show has meant a lot to me as a viewer. I certainly donāt think people are wrong to be upset, and I think gender and race and the workplace are deeply relevant to that upset, and itās simultaneously true that being an audience member just means not always having access to the full story of decisions that are made. I think the frustrationāboth over the decision itself and over the rumors spiraling around itāhas created conditions in which people in fandom are behaving cruelly to one another in lieu of having something clear and concrete to respond to. As someone whoās genuinely appreciated Samiraās arc within the larger ensemble, itās tough to watch everything thatās been happening in online Pitt spaces!)
you're better than anyone. they don't deserve you at all.
Genuinely baffled at the amount of people acting shocked (esp. over on twitter and reddit) that many of us are feeling totally blindsided by the news of Samira's exit from the pitt. Being all condescending with their stupid "ist this your first TV show" accusations. No, but it seems that it's your first time seeing a show you love being criticised.
Like why are we acting as though the pitt is this flawless untouchable thing? I love the show passionately and am truly in awe at the phenomenon it created, but let's not pretend that the one shift per season model doesn't have its limitations.
Samira's arc has been getting more hopeless and depressing with each episode. She is repeatedly belittled by her mentor in ways that have lead to a complete lack of confidence in herself. Sure, we still have 2 episodes to go but I am not sure that's enough to conclude her arc in a satisfying manner. Definitely not one worthy of a sendoff. If anything her being so beaten down at the end is perfect setup for an awesome 3rd season of getting her spark back, which would also be way more in line with where her character left off in season 1.
And I truly must be watching a different show, because what do you mean this season has been setting her character up to be written out? The season that confirmed that her plans to go to Jersey went out the window since there is nothing there for her anymore? The season that had her desperately trying to get into an elective AT PTMC?
And don't tell me it's just more realistic that way. If that is truly the reason, then I expect other beloved characters to get the same treatment after season 3. If that doesn't happen then I guess it tells us everything we need to know.
Also, why are so many people claiming that her exit is due to finishing her residency? A quick Google search tells me that a new year of residency typically starts in July. It being the 4th means that she has only just started her R4 year. So unless there is a one year time jump she would still be an R4 in season 3. Or is the show going to be selective with its realism? If so, fuck that.
In all honesty, Supriya leaving the show checks out with the way they handled Samiraās character development or lack there of in Season 2. I mean, they essentially used Samira as a prop to showcase Robby spiraling out like sheās some fucking plot device/accessory, and youāre telling me we wonāt get to see her next season? At all? The craziest thing is thereās so much praise about how Supriya/Samira is the beating heart of the show and we definitely got more of that in S1 than in S2, but now sheās just gone for ānarrative purposesā? I call bullshit.
She had limited screentime this season, the writing for her character was subpar, and in all honesty this season in particular has really been lacking in keeping the āensemble castā feel from S1 when theyāre so focused on Robby, Robby, Robby, and Iām sick of it. The writers in the room canāt decide on a cohesive message across the season, itās bloated to account for so many things at once including new characters, and you can just tell they didnāt know what to do with Samira this season so their solution is to write her off. Itās so fucking lazy and sad. Yāall aged down Samira just to fit Supriya after her audition, and now you wonāt even bother to give her a proper character arc? Yāall couldnāt even support or defend Supriya when she was dealing with racism from the press and theyāve said that. Man fuck yāall.
I seriously canāt wrap my head around how they give us such a great character in Samira Mohan just to write her off for ānarrative purposesā which Iām honestly calling bullshit. Sheās a part of the MAIN cast? I donāt fucking get it? And the craziest thing about this is they will introduce new characters in S3 that will attempt to fill in the gap Samira left and itāll just miss the mark, the same way they missed the mark with Heather being written out. By S4 all of the white characters will remain lol. Couldāve written off literally ANYBODY else but it just had to be Samira right? Idgaf if itās realistic, it fucking sucks and itās bad writing, I donāt care.
Iām very happy that Ayeshaās character as Parker Ellis is getting promoted to season regular, but I have no faith in the writersā ability to honor that given they already took out 2 characters who add so much to the story. They took out Heather, theyāre now taking out Samira. Literally whoās next? I want to know.
Iām over it. I really am. This show had such a great start at the beginning and itās just slowly going downhill. This makes me want to watch & engage with the show less and less. Iām not watching the Robby show, Iām just not. And this news dropping today when we still have 3 episodes left is so funny, couldnāt even wait until the season was done airing. Yāall got it fr. Iām wishing Supriya Ganesh the absolute best in her career, I really am itās what they deserve. š
