Well, there you go, keeping vulnerable people safe isnāt your top priority
Yeah I see people relish and focus way too much on the idea of punishment and torture for pedophiles rather than focusing on how to prevent that kind of thing from happening in the first place
Dehumanizing abusers and criminals doesnāt make anyone safer and doesnāt help us on the track of learning how to rehabilitate those who have done harm, or help us understand that everyone of us has the ability to do harm.
Those are things that would make communities safer rather than simply come up for reasons to spend your time punishing or abusing abusers.
Harshly punishing those who abuse power is one of the pillars of establishing a safe community.
The point (if not definition) of establishing a safe community is preventing abuse, not reacting to it after the fact with reciprocal abuse
If youāre so attached to the idea of revenge and gratuitous punishment that you canāt recognize when that isnāt the best way to handle a situation, I donāt trust you to keep me or others safe
Anyone willing to inflict any unnecessary harm on anyone should not be trusted with the power to do so. It doesnāt matter what your target did, I donāt trust someone who can see someone suffering and justify it. Iām not saying the target isnāt a bastard or actions shouldnāt have consequences, but sadism is never a good social policy.
