Holy cow, I did not expect to like this as much as I did?!
I've read the manga about 3 times and watched the anime and movies more times than I can count, and I went in with somewhat low expectations given how much they needed to fit into one stage play, but they actually did such a good job omg
They managed to condense it down surprisingly well given they only had two hours, I was very impressed. Plus the stage and effects were just 👌
Their version of L was really good and the whole thing was so much better than that Netflix slop they came up with...
The songs were so good too! And I say that as someone who usually doesn't like musicals that much.
My Pokopia notebook arrived today! I thought it was a metal cover from the photos (it's not), but it's still super cute so I honestly can't complain ❤️
Happy Birthday To Akechi! (You adorable little psycho 😆)
Afraid I don't have anything new to post in celebration because I kinda forgot until Tumblr reminded me, so I'll just dump my Akechi focussed fics here Iol

I guess technically the anniversary was last week since it was published on FF.net on the 13th, but I wanted to wait until the day it was available on both 😆
I have no idea what time it was published, so I'm opting for midday, UK time.
I still remember being so anxious about publishing it, but it turned out be the best decision I ever made because I've met and talked to so many wonderful people online because of it.
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to read, comment, and offer general support while I was writing it at the time. It was and still is very much appreciated!
Here's to more fun stories and friendships ~ ❤️

Summary:
Vergil is finding the experience of living with Dante more and more unpleasant as the days go on and desperately wants to find a way to leave. His irritation only increases after a few annoying interactions with that "Lady" woman. Meanwhile, Nero has an interesting suggestion.
Another two years has passed and somehow in that time we've got two seasons of DMC anime and still no announcements for the next game 😆
It's been over 7 years since I published this now, that's crazy... And yet I'm still obsessed with DMC and have been since about 2006, so I guess some things never change lol
Damn, how did I miss that the new Netflix DMC season is out? Feeling kind of anxious given how the first one went, but we'll see..... Guess I know what I'm bingeing after work again!
So, having binge watched the whole thing yesterday, I have a few thoughts... (We started at about 8pm and didn't finish until almost 2am, and I had an important training course at work today, oops. Having said that I did wake up in the middle of the night before a 4am shift just to play the Vergil DLC when it came out for DMC 5 a few years back, I am not exactly rational when it comes to this series 😆)
ANYWAY. Netflix S2. I'll try to keep it brief and put any spoilers below the cut.
It was better that S1 I thought, maybe because they didn't need so much set up and maybe they hopefully listened to some feedback. Unfortunately, it still didn't feel right to me. I've seen other people online describe it as animated fanfic or an excuse for Adi to share his Spotify playlist and I kind of agree lol. Like don't get me wrong, the music was good, but there was a LOT of it. It kind of felt like there was more music than dialogue at times, and that it was trying just a bit TOO hard to be edgy. I'm all for some 90s / early 00s edge but this kind of felt like they were doing it just for the sake of it rather than as an homage or anything.
It was nice to see so much Vergil though, and they at least kept him mostly in character, but they changed so much of his backstory which just didn't really seem necessary? It'll be interesting to see what they do with him going forwards.
One thing I really enjoyed was the opening and ending credits, they were really beautifully done and the little flashbacks in the ending credits were really sweet and nostalgic. I really liked the way they did those and how they added more each episode. Some almost made me tear up a little! It was nice to see Lady in her usual outfit in the opening as well, even if just briefly. If the whole show was just like the opening and ending I'd probably have enjoyed it a lot more. 😆
The longer episodes were a good choice I think, although it still felt a little bit strangely paced to me for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. It felt like too much yet not enough happened at the same time? I did like that they focussed more on the backstory of Dante and Vergil this time, and it felt a bit more character and demon focused this time rather than the randomness from last season. Seeing more of Mundus was really cool too, even if he seemed a bit out of character in my opinion.
I'm torn on the inclusion of some random references to fandom memes... They also included a few direct quotes from the game which was both fun but also kind of cringe in places lol. There were some pretty funny moments though and Dante had some good lines.
Overall, better than last season but it still doesn't feel like DMC to me. I'd be hesitant to recommend it to people who haven't played the games as I feel like it might give them the wrong impression of the series. It was fun to watch and laugh at how bad some of it was though. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the next season.
Spoilery thoughts below the cut.
OK first of all, the GODDAMN LAWN CHAIR. I just could NOT. We had to go back and watch it again because I couldn't believe the mad lad actually did it. At least Vergil didn't sit in it and drink a can of Monster lmao. Similar to the first season, it does feel like Adi just looked up a bunch of memes and based the series on that rather than actually bothering to play the games, but it was funny enough that I'll allow it this time.
Some of the most ridiculous quotes:
"Mr Vergil..." *holds out phone* "IT'S THE PRESIDENT."
Also the
SUPER DEMON KILLER 950 CARTRIDGE.
This was kinda funny, ngl
Plus of course whatever the hell this was (same, Lady, same).
And of course how could I not mention the Dante x Lady stuff... Alright, LOOK, I know I write a lot of Vergil x Lady stuff, but I have nothing against Dante x Lady, and think it can even be pretty cute sometimes. The problem is that it's a fan ship, just like every other pairing in DMC. To me it just felt kind of forced and out of nowhere? I'd have felt the same with any other pairing, not just these guys. If they were going to do it I think next season would have been the better choice, but hey I guess you're not allowed to have a show without some sort of relationship these days :/
I feel like the drama and tension could (and has!) just as easily work if they were bffs rather than a couple, but it is what it is. That's all I'll say on the matter, but if they make Nero Dante's son instead of Vergil's, we riot.
SPEAKING OF, I don't like how Nero-y some of Dante's behaviour was, namely surfing on the rocket launcher and having Devil Trigger as his theme again. They are and should be their own characters, and I don't really like how they're sort of being combined. This is Nero erasure I tell you! 😆
Finally, the random kid... (Mattie?) She was cute and I liked the interactions with Vergil, but she just felt like unnecessary filler that was solely added for ✨️drama✨️ and could probably have been missed tbh. She didn't even interact with the mirror demon thing and was just chilling in the background while Vergil badassed his way through everything. Why didn't the mirror target and traumatise her too, huh? It's not like she has nothing scary to see after everything that's happened to her! Anyway she kind of felt like a replacement Patty from the original anime and I really don't think she added much. She seems fun though, so maybe they'll do more with her next season. If she wasn't so shoehorned in I'd probably like her a lot more.
Oh also, Lady telling her not to swear because it's bad got a chuckle out of me, given the Lady May Swear of last season. 😆
