That…. actually surprises the Troll. No human had ever managed to correctly guess what the heck their blood colors were for. Most just assumed it was just some weird thing that happened in their kind and that it didn’t mean anything. This surprise shows on his face for a few seconds but he shakes it off quickly enough. Right, he was sorta kinda teaching here… he guessed. Man, this was weird.

"Uh…. Yeah, you were right with the first guess…." deciding that visuals helped in the action of teaching, he scratches at his arm, mostly just appearing to scratch an itch, but intentionally makes a small cut in the skin with his claws. Sure enough, a trickle of sea green toned blood oozes out of the wound.

"Maroon, Brown and Yellow are the absolute lowest…."

The surprised look on the Troll's face caused Joel to mimic the face. Did he actually say something right among all of that mess? He was just pretty much shooting in the dark here with all of his questions and assumptions as to the different types of blood. It kind of amused him that he even said something right.

"I was, huh? Damn... 'm good at this guessin' thing, then." He more or less praised himself, chuckling softly. Joel watched as the Troll in front of him scratched at his arm, watching as the blood oozed from the small cut. His eyes somewhat widening at the color tone of the blood. Sure enough, it was different colored. It was actually kind of weird seeing it. "Kind of a sea green color there..." He commented more or less to himself.

"Then what's the highest? Is your blood the highest?" He questioned again.

Ash stood up, “Well, since your going to be on my ship, there will be standard military clothes, but y’all need other things as well.”

"If you follow me, I can take you to a few shops and get you all what you need." She smiled as she motioned them to follow her, the first shop held both men and women’s clothing, it was run by Asari though, Ash stopped and whispered to Joel and Ellie what Asari were so they wouldn’t be surprised. "Get what you want and get multiple colors and things, I want you both to have a good amount of clothes."

Ash even glanced at a few racks for something she could wear, it had been a while since she’d been shopping. She picked out some pink tank tops and a new pair of jeans and shoes while the others kept looking.

"Military clothes, huh. That ain't nothin'." He shrugged it off. As long as they got fresh clothes, it was fine with the both of them. Anything was better than what they were wearing. They both stood up from the table, automatically walking over to Ash and following her lead. When she whispered, they both kept quiet, listening in. Never had either of them heard of Asari before so it was going to be interesting seeing seeing someone that is an Asari. They walked in and started looking at the clothes, picking out things that they like as well as something to wear right at this instant.

Surprisingly, there were a lot of clothes that Joel seemed to enjoy. They had a lot of plaid buttoned shirts that surprised him the most. He thought they were a bit outdated or something along those lines, but here they were, staring at him. Ellie just grabbed a whole lot of things, just avoiding the bright pinks and purples that were prevalent in the section she was in. They both went into a changing room, changing into one of their new outfits before coming back out. It was a relief having something actually new looking on their body compared to the tattered rags they had with blood stains and the like.

"All this must be expensive, yeah?" He called over to Ash, continuing to eye at his own clothes

Canter does not answer this question right away. He instead remains quiet, staring in the direction of the Earth’s sun for a little longer. Slowly pulling his hands from his pockets, claws scratching at the material of his jeans, he turns in order to face Joel. Most humans didn’t believe what he was about to say, he supposes it’s because all of their kind bore the same blood color and were not different from each other in that regard.

"… They’re Trolls. We all have different blood colors… twelve of them, to be specific…" he watches to see whether or not the man is going to believe him on this one.

"Twelve? Twelve like as in there are twelve types of blood colors?" That was really... odd to Joel. Of course he knew that most of the creatures on Earth had red blood, and some even had weird colors, too, but... Twelve? That's a lot of difference. "Is the blood color kinda like a... stance of royalty or somethin' like that? If you have a certain blood that it means you're higher up than someone else that has different blood or 'lower' blood?" He tilted his head. "Or does it just... help with like adaptin' to things in nature?" He was really lost. Joel was just spouting all kinds of different questions and it was probably overpowering the Troll, trying to keep up.

The brunette exhaled, running a hand through her hair as she was antsy to get out and help her friends. They were doing a good job fending them off— If they weren’t strong enough Sarah would have dumped them in a trash can long ago anyways. “I’m not kiddin’.” She repeated, arms crossing over her chest like some mad mother fighting her son to go to bed. “And that’s what I’m tryin’ to do,” The woman simply responded. It was already beginning to turn an orange hue outside, which meant it was evening and she had to clear them out before it got dark enough to the point where she and her group couldn’t help them.

“‘Course I don’t, but I’m gonna guess maybe a small group. They sure as hell won’t send them all on my ass for one little pack.” She shifted awkwardly after hitting the hunter with the arrow and gestured to it in her hand by lifting it up lightly. “I’ve had practice.” She mumbled, watching him leave out the door. She took a deep breath and grabbed the pistol from under her pillow and the backpack that held most of her arrows before making her way outside and right under the couch her group had flipped over already for cover. “You know how many there are?” Sarah questioned Kyle, who simply shrugged and said,

"Ten or eleven of them."

“Shit.”

Her tone has defintely changed from how it was in the past; more leader-like and very stern as well as direct. The way that she was just herding her father out the back to get out of harm's way just put him in just complete disbelief. Did she really not trust him to withstand Hunters? Was it turning into a pride thing? Hell if he knew but he knew as soon as she thought she had him out, he'd turn right back around and dive in head first. There was no way that she could just get rid of him like that. Not at a time like this where help is always needed and much appreciated. Strength in numbers, right? That's just how it has always been.

It didn't take him long to get outside and away from her sight; or any of their sight for that matter. That was the one thing he didn't want to do. Get spotted by his daughter or her group since she wanted him gone. But also, he had to keep watch with the Hunters that were lurking about. Joel managed to sneak near the entrance of their hideout, trying to listen to any conversations going on; any at all. It didn't take long at all before he heard approaching footsteps. He ducked back around the corner, still peeking over to get a glimpse of the entrance that they were heading toward. As soon as one of the Hunters moved close enough, Joel crept up on him and grabbed him from behind, strangling him down to the floor with a loud thud. He didn't mean for it to be so loud, but the other male was struggling so much that he created enough noise on his own that he more or less dropped him and had to go from there.

'One down...' He moved back inside, still trying to hide from Sarah and her crew, but that was probably not going to go well after his performance right there. If he kept making so much noise, it'd definitely alert them and also the Hunters.

"Our sun is hotter… brighter too, pretty much unbearable to most of my kind…" he remarks while eating a few of the berries from the dogwood tree, casually spitting out the pits when he was able to. Sniffing at the air and not catching wind of anything deadly, the troll relaxes again and slides his hands into the pockets of his hoodie.

"Look at it once and you go blind…. the only ones able to walk around in the day are the dead that wander the deserts and the Jade bloods," it’s a more descriptive answer than he intended to give but, hey, as long as he was making acquaintances it shouldn’t be too bad to give out information about your species.

"Is that right... Must be kinda rough just livin' during the night, right?" He shrugged his shoulders slightly before looking around, trying to keep his guard up at all times. "I couldn't imagine switchin' from walkin' in the day to just walkin' in the night. But I guess if you're just grown into that kind of life, it comes easier, yeah?" He noted. Even so, that sun must be extremely huge and that planet must be extremely hot when it is day time. It was bad enough with the summer heat that floats by in the States. Getting up to 108 degrees at time, even days at a time with humidity. Nothin' beats that, but this sure does.

The fact that you only have to look once at that sun was even more unrealistic to Joel. Countless of times he has looked up at the sun, letting it pierce into his eyes and never get permanently blind. If he had did that on the Troll's planet... Well, that would be the first and last time he'd do something like that. "I can't imagine that... And what are these... Jade bloods?" He raised a brow, curious.

"It’s pretty similar to this place, if a bit more… wild. We typically come out at night though," this was needed due to how strong the Alternian sun was, only able to be withstood by those of the jade blood caste and the dead that wandered the deserts. At Joel’s inquiry about the plant, the Troll trots over to him and inspects the species for a few seconds.

"… Dogwood Tree, rather young one. The berries are edible," this looked like the kind were the berries had pits and bore a sweet, tropical flavor. Casually he glances up a little bit and just enjoys the surroundings for a while, smiling a little to himself.

”.. Your sun is weaker than ours…” he comments idly.

"More wild?" He didn't know what to make of that comment. Was it filled with more wildlife or more plants? Were there monsters that lurked on that planet that would eat you in a heartbeat? He shrugged it off. "Only at night, huh... That's the time I hide and keep watch..." There must have been a reason as to why they'd only come out a night. And if the Troll is here now and it's day time, then that obviously meant there was something going wrong during their day time. Once again, he shrugged it off. Hoping that he'd get answers just from the little dab he said.

Joel simply nodded, grabbing some of the berries off the plant once he got the reading from his new acquaintance, popping one of them into his mouth and chewing on it a bit before spitting out the pit of the fruit. It was definitely sweet which caused his mouth to pucker up, shaking his head at the taste. "Too sweet..." He dropped the berries back down on the ground.

"It's weaker? Why, is yours unbearable?" Was that the reason as to why they couldn't be out in the day time?

Eyes glanced down to the man with a shiv in his throat, and then to the man with the arrow in his eye. Slowly she reached over and pulled it out with some squishing sounds she tried not to listen to. She wasn’t proud of what she does, and she doesn’t want to think about her father killing people. It was something everyone had to do these days, she knew that much, but you can’t blame her for being startled over it. “You sure?” She said again, a face of worry masked by a deadpan look on her face. Sarah ignored her father’s… Slight praising, and then said, “You need to leave.” Not because she wanted him to, but because she didn’t want him to get anymore hurt than that punch. She didn’t care if he was bigger and probably stronger than her— She just didn’t want to see him get hurt. She took a deep breath and rubbed her temples with her free hand (the other still holding onto the arrow). “We looted them. I-I thought it wasn’t anyone’s so I told them to loot. I didn’t fucking know.”

A Hunter was seen through the shattered window, trying to aim at her with a bow but failing ultimately. A new one, maybe, or something like that. She grabbed her bow and swiftly aimed and shot without a second thought. It hit him square in the forehead and he fell over. There were probably at least one small group of them outside and she needed to get with her group, but she wanted to see her dad leave first. So she pointed to the back door of the room with a stern look on her face.

The sudden words of 'you need to leave' caught the man off-guard. Did he hear that right? Why in the hell would he leave now? He just got here and now they were under attack. He thought that it would be best if he did stay because that one just be one more person that they could rely on to take care of this Hunter problem. Of course he had to get back to Ellie but it could wait. She was in a safe area at the moment, but right now his own daughter had issues that needed to be dealt with and now she's asking him to leave? "You're kiddin'. 'm not leavin' when you got Hunters." Joel gave her a hard look, showing that he wasn't budging one bit. Though, when she came clean as to why the Hunters were even around here, it gave him a better understanding. She didn't know. Probably none of them knew that where they looted from was still being inhabited. It was an honest mistake, right? Joel shook his head. "Things like this happen all the time. It ain't anyone's fault so you just gotta deal with it." And she probably figured that out pretty quickly.

"So I reckon you don't know how many of 'em are out there..." He commented rather blandly, looking at the window once it shattered and watching as Sarah hit the Hunter right in the head with one of her arrows with ease. "Jesus..." He nearly whispered. She had a good aim, and that was something he was confident about. His eyes locked onto Sarah's face, noticing the look she gave him as well as the motion to the back door. He really had to leave, then? Joel let out a protesting sigh as he moved over to the back door and exited.

Her eyes searched his for something; anything. He had every right to be upset with her. She had put them all at risk, and the thought of something happening to the two people who let her in caused a deep ache to form in her chest. She was dangerous; dangerously stupid. She felt so horrible for what she had done, and she found it hard to even make eye contact with the teen girl across the room. How could they ever trust her now? After she had fucked up so badly. She wanted to cry; to sob. But, she didn’t. She stayed strong and held back her tears. There was no point in crying over something that could have happened. She just needed to make sure it would never happen again. She couldn’t even remember what had been going through her mind at that very moment. She’d just been so fucking terrified. Terrified of ending up like her brother.

Giving the older male an understanding nod, she placed the pistol next to her. She wasn’t planning on using it again for the rest of the night unless she had to. Which she was sure that it wouldn’t come to that. Joel and Ellie seemed to be pretty quick on their feet. They were smart; strategic. They knew what they were doing.

Gripping onto the blanket, she grabbed onto her back pack with her free hand and gave it a quick pat; flattening it out. Scooting over, she placed her head on her own version of a pillow and pulled the blanket up to her chin. She wasn’t so sure she was going to be able to sleep, but it was nice not to be so cold. When she was traveling with Travis, they never had the luxury of warmth at night. They spent the night huddled together; shivering and praying for morning to come just a little bit quicker.

"I’m sorry." She whispered, eyes moving over to Joel. It was quite clear she felt horrible about what happened, and she just hoped they realized that. Everyone fucked up every once in a while, but Stella had the tendency to mess things up more than most.

A quiet sigh passed through his lips as he tried to file his thoughts perfectly in his mind over the situation. It could have been a lot worse, but it wasn't and he had to be thankful for that. Joel had to keep remembering that everyone was their own person and he can't control what they think or their actions. Everyone is their separate person and that could be a dangerous thing. For all he knew, he could have had someone on his side that decided they wanted to throw some kind of makeshift bomb at the guy and it could have injured them instead. Or even someone could have just fled because they were too terrified of the situation at hand. Everyone was different and he just had to remind himself that every second of the day. The man could never tell what anyone was thinking and that's why even at the end of the day, he could only trust himself but also try to some what trust that no one else will go bat-shit insane suddenly.

The quiet whisper coming from Stella just earned her a nod from Joel as he continued to peer out of the window. "Nothin' to be sorry 'bout. Shit happens and you didn't know how well armed the guy was. No one did. You were just tryin' to help." He managed to reply before letting out another sigh, shaking his head. "'m thinkin' we're gonna be alright now." He commented shortly after.

As soon as the room got entirely quiet, Joel thought that maybe the two of them finally went to sleep. The eerie silence wasn't good for him though. He was going to be lost in his mind and that's what was happening. Flooding thoughts of the past that he tries so desperately to run away from but he can't. He gripped onto his broken wrist watch, given to him on the last hours of his birthday that dreadful night twenty years ago. As he plays with it, he glances down at it and admires it for a moment before walking across the room to grab a chair and briging it over to the window. As soon as he sits down, a wave of sleepiness crashes over him and before he even knows it, he's fast asleep with the silence of the room.

Fortunately the morning appeared in no time, and nothing had gone wrong when he was trying to catch up on his rest. Joel stretched out his arms, taking in the entire room back into his eyes. "You two up? Gotta get rollin'. Can't stay here. If we ran into one guy, there's bound to be at least three more in tow."

Ash was happy that he was so interested, not many people of this time were really, and they were the ones in danger. Ash leaned back in her chair, “Well… I’m not really sure how they do it. People that suffer from indoctrination say they hear humming, they’re teeth hurt and they hear whispers.” She started, “Soon their eyes have three blue orbs around their pupil and they start getting… pipe like veins. It’s really weird. Again, I’m not sure how people start to hear it or how it gets into your head.”

"But, it’s not contagious- like if you were bitten or something. You have to be around reaper tech for it to work. And it usually preys on the weakest people first." She commented trying to clear up any confusion, the waiter then came by and Ash paid for the meal.

"Guess I should get y’all some clothes and necessities shouldn’t I?" Ash smiled.

"That's really... somethin'..." He shook his head. He couldn't imagine something like that. Joel didn't know what was worse anymore, how it was back then for him and Ellie or now with these Reapers. Either way, it seemed like it took over your body in some shape or form and that was not something to laugh about. "I can't imagine havin' something like that happenin' to me. A man could go crazy with that hummin' and whisperin'..." The man shook his head again, still trying to absorb all of this knowledge in of this foreign place.

It made it a little better for him knowing that it couldn't be passed around like how to Cordyceps were. But, he thought as much about that. Then with how the Reapers go for the weakest was also rather obvious. They probably weren't stupid. No one in any kind of situation would ever go for the strongest. Who knows how it'd match to your own strength and ability.

He snapped out of his thinking, looking back at Ash and nodding once. "If you don't mind, ma'am. We're not the best lookin' people right now." Ellie glanced up at Joel, giving him a playful glare but nodding in agreement nonetheless. They both were wearing ripped up clothing from the hell they endured. Looking at all of the fancy get-up that everyone else was wearing, they definitely stuck out.

Despite still being in a rather deep sleep, the lightest touch on her shoulder pulled her to the surface and she suddenly animated with a deep breath that made her chest rise. Squeezing shut her eyes extra tight, she turned her face down in the mattress with a surly grunt and tucked her arms close to her body. 5 more minutes… It wasn’t often that she was able to sleep decently, and they were always on the move. Pretty soon they’d reach Tommy’s — oh. Yeah. Right.

Her body was still sore, reminding her of the journey they took to get there. It seemed like she was still dreaming, that they were still holing up in some abandoned house or had taken shelter underneath a tree’s branches. Man, a whole year here. Waking up on an actual bed, getting to relax. Not having to worry about when the next meal was to be or if they’d stumble across hunters. Of course, it’d end as soon as they set out to find a cure, but…well, a year was longer than they’d think.

Drowsily picking her head up, Ellie yawned as she blinked the sleep out of her eyes and brought a hand up to rub at them. The allure of food was enough for her to sit up, hand bracing against the bedding to support her weight as she swung her legs slowly down to the side of the bed. “..Thanks,” The girl said through another yawn, taking the bowl of cereal off the side table and placing it onto her lap.

"How’s your shoulder?" She asked, tipping her head towards it. There was hope that he’d have gotten decent sleep with it; it couldn’t have felt grand, even with the possibility of infection avoided and the bullet removed. Even her limbs were sore, and she hadn’t even taken half the damage he had. Ah shit, that’s right, she was supposed to be checked over by the medics — but if he wasn’t going to remember, than neither would she. Wounds would heal, just like they always did.

"Month, huh?" Ellie’s eyebrows raised in mock surprise. If she kept herself from thinking about the medics, she wouldn’t give it away. "That’s kind of surprising….figured Tommy would want us working within a week or something — not that I’m complaining, though." It’d give them time to adapt and take a breather for once, and maybe even do some fun stuff if they were up to it. Although sleep did sound rather pleasing; apparently everyone else wasn’t in a hurry to be anywhere that morning either. “Man, it’s already really weird not having to go anywhere or do anything.”
