Circumcisions and Science Fiction

Another old science fiction novel, from the 70s, “Son of Man” by Robert Silverberg…

“He wakes… His body is bare… the hand goes lower and finds his genitals … He touches his penis, first the shaft, then the rim of soft pink flesh at the head, final the head itself.” Clearly no mention of foreskin, but then four pages on… “his penis looks strange to him, and after a moment’s contemplation he realizes in awe that he has been decircumcised.”  The story is about a time traveler from the future.  There doesn’t seem to be a circumcision theme, just a casual reference to being "decircumcised.”
