always complain about things. okay, you know how programmers explain their code to rubber ducks when it's not working? same principle. an appliance breaks down. I get pissed off, try everything, go through the various stages of despair etc. I complain about it to a friend and explain why it frustrates me so bad, and suddenly I'm thinking 'wait I should try unplugging it and then doing a factory reset and then—' and I go home and do that and it starts working again. I keep losing my earrings. I complain about it to a friend, about how I keep them all in a little dish but then the specific one I want always dematerialises the moment I want it. my friend says 'I just keep them on the little card backs they came with' and I think well shit, I always throw those out. but then I think aha I can make a bunch of pinholes in a decorative postcard. genius. I read a story. it's about something I'm usually into, but for some reason I don't like this story at all. I complain about it, I figure out what irritates me about it, I have a great idea for a way better story. I try a new recipe, it doesn't come together. I bitch about it like crazy, about what I thought I did right and how it failed, and before I know it I'm explaining out loud which parts I'm inexperienced at or didn't understand or adjusted wrong. I need a little table for drawing on. I complain about it in the group chat, two days later someone says 'hey I spotted the kind of table you're looking for on the side of the road, do you want to come pick it up'. I complain, endlessly. my life is enriched. the art of complaining.

immediately that visual is so cool in my head
Unpopular opinion: Our inner child doesn't grow up, we unconsciously ground them when we get older.
Emgo316 once said: "You don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing."
When he turned 30, my oldest brother complained that no one gave him toys anymore. And so I started giving him, and my other older brother, and my parents, toys for birthdays. Soon, we were all doing it.
I encouraged my mother to dig my brothers' teddy bears out of the attic (I never gave mine up; it went to college with me). When each turned 50, she gave them their old teddy bear. I have pictures of them with huge smiles on their faces, holding their old teddy bears.
When my father turned 70, my mom and I gave him a "vintage" (anniversary edition) Slinky, a miniature Radio Flyer red wagon, a bag of marbles, Silly Putty, and a couple of balsa wood airplane kits, and he loved them.
You are never too old to play. If for some reason you stopped, you can start again. If you never did, you can start now. Go! Have fun! Do what makes you happy!
I haven’t seen the HTTYD remake yet but it’s hilarious to me how John Powell wasn’t allowed to use the same track names so he just decided to be a troll.

“In 2010, Brenda Chapman was fired as director of “Brave” and her film was given to a man, a move that some employees perceived as proof of the studio’s deeply ingrained gender bias. This double-standard reality was later echoed in my own experience with several articulate, impressive female leads whom the Pixar whisper network vilified as “bitches.” A female lead in my department once begged her male bosses to support her with a team to complete a challenging production project. Her male superiors repeatedly ignored her requests, until the stress of the job led her into a state of psychological and physical breakdown. When she went into sabbatical to recover, her male replacement was given a team of half a dozen artists to help him complete the same task. When I received a perplexing performance review after finishing my fourth production, it felt I’d never be equally recognized as a valuable asset by the company. The lengthy negative column listed things like, “designs too many options; seems like she’s trying too hard; asks too many questions.” When I shared the document with my candid male mentor, who openly acknowledged the culture of sexism at Pixar, he said, “If you were a man, every one of those negatives would be in the positive column.” Physically and mentally burnt out after years of bumping up against the glass ceiling, I left Pixar at age 30, hoping to find a workplace where I could genuinely thrive.”

In honor of a recent reblog of my Isle of Dogs piece, where someone asked why can’t we just enjoy the cute movie, must we infuse everything with social justice to the point of “boringness”.

Okay but honestly fucking shit like this when they show Zuko’s scar side when talking about Sozin and then having the bar pass and have his non-scar side when Iroh says Roku is his great grandfather if EXACTLY the kind of shit that elevates this show to where really no other show has ever come and probably never will
I mean if you frame it in a photo it looks much better, in reality it was a moving shot. Still nice but not amazing. What really is an amzing shot is this
Who is realy imprisioned here? The way this shot is framed makes it clear that Zuko is in a prison of his own mind. In fact you can look at how Zuko and Iroh are generally framed in this scene
Zuko:
and Iroh:
Even in shots where Iroh is framed together with the iron bars he is far removed from them while Zuko is right in front:
What takes the cake though is the following shot sequence:
When it shows Iroh it zooms in from this:
To this:
While with Zuko it’s the exact reverse. It zooms out from this:
To this:
Say what you want but man Avatar had some amazing shot composition.Â
Also the reason The Last Airbender was better than Korra is because atla had Zuko and Iroh, while Korra didn’t. Fight me.
In addition to this scene being very well done, the whole The Avatar and the Firelord episode is just genius. It just makes the parallels between Zuko and Aang so much more powerful in retrospect. They weren’t on parallel paths just because. They were on parallel paths because they’re two parts of one lineage: Roku’s Fire Nation lineage and his spiritual-mediator Avatar lineage. And throughout the series the two of them are paired up through visual language, and the show even goes as far as match-cuts between the two of them as they’re in different locations and different fights. I forget where, but I KNOW there’s a shot where Aang is dodging in a fight and basically running towards the viewer and it cuts straight to Zuko doing the exact same thing, like they’re two enactments of one story.
And the twin blades? Zuko himself says they’re two halves of a single weapon, and shouldn’t be thought of as separate. The twin blades which we really first see in The Blue Spirit storyline, in which Aang asks Zuko if they COULD HAVE BEEN FRIENDS. It’s been stated that the blades represent the good and evil parts of Zuko, but isn’t that just a direct result of him grappling with his lineage, which is directly tied to Aang?
In conclusion: I am not ok and will never be ok. Thanks Avatar.
I can verify this because I like, live out here and stuff, it’s pretty weird to watch the news call it a burning warzone every day
this is how propaganda works
Ah yes, because everyone knows, absolutely no ones’ lives or property are in danger until the entire city has been reduced to rubble.
It’s literally like one block of downtown.
Few things have sustained more than a broken window or some graffiti.
Photos and videos of completely trashed buildings are including those that have been that way for years.
Stats on closures and financial losses are being confused with those related to covid-19.
The news keeps mentioning the same two or three little “family owned” businesses that got hurt in outbreaks of panic but can’t seem to come up with any more than that.
That’s because the full list of our current downtown businesses and the full list of places that have been hit consist primarily of: Starbuck’s, Rite-Aid, Target, Apple, Microsoft, Nordstrom Rack, Whole Foods, Men’s Warehouse, Payless, AT&T, Sprint, Doc Marten’s and a bunch of jewelry stores.
These businesses themselves cost hundreds of people their livelihoods or homes when they came here, which people were already angry about before any of this happened.
That said, only a couple of them have been truly targeted and ransacked, such as the Apple Store, an eyesore that destroyed a chunk of historic architecture to sell planned obsolescence to hipster tourists.
Oops, I forgot the scientology building got vandalized too. Poor babies.

Here it is as of last year or so:

Every John green book: my name is Kirk assgun and I m not cool or popular and I'm bullied everyday because I fuck comic books and I watch this really cool show called the Big Bang theory. But it's okay because I at least have 2 other bros and 1 convenient negro friend. You see that girl over there? That's kaydence Tigerlilly Dookieson. SHe is the love of my life. She is misunderstood and like really cool indie bands like Coldplay and she's been smoking since she was 7. She's not like other girls. If only she would realize that the missing key to her life was me, a greasy white boy
