Actually, can anyone explain to me why the idea of using ai for charting is so unacceptable that it seems to make Al-Hashimi irredeemable in some people's eyes?
Obviously there are flaws. The chance of errors appears to be lower than dictating, but I think expecting busy, stressed, exhausted doctors to consistently prove-read fully filled-out charts with the same amount of attention to detail they would have while writing the chart themselves is utopian. Obviously this system invites mistakes and I think there definitely needs to be a change in the way it is implemented. (Possibly a requirement to manually confirm different parts of the chart as correct, so you can't just skim over it and decide it looks fine?)
Aside from that, and assuming that the ai was ethically trained and implemented by people who know what they are doing, I really don't see the issue. At the end of the day ai is just another tool to use, and while we have seen it mishandled in many ways that doesn't make it inherently bad.
So my question is, am I missing an issue in Dr. Al's use of ai? Why is there this much hate?
to me it seems to be mostly from a persistent (and justified) AI fatigue among people who are discussing the show. Al-Hashimi’s app is one of the very few positive use cases for generative AI, but the reputation of gen AI right now is so shit because most of the used companies are trying to push for it right now are completely useless and actively harmful. so the knee-jerk reaction is “AI bad” which is fine in most cases, but in this one requires a bit more critical thinking

i think this new episode really cemented for me that this cast is getting too big… consider that the new nurse Emma got literally ZERO screen time in the whole episode. it hurts whenever a character is written out (I certainly miss collins) but it may have to happen with a few characters next season (or at least give us fewer newcomers)
look, I am the LAST person who is going to use or defend most forms of Generative AI. but please. guys. Dr. Al-Hashimi's app is clearly accurate most of the time, and IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE CHECKED BY A HUMAN. it's clearly not being used for diagnosis at any level (which WOULD be clearly unethical), it's for transcribing and sorting information; one of the few things Generative AI is actually useful for. think before you react; everything has nuance, y'all.
I am reeeeally really hoping that Al-Hashimi's arc this season is not just her realizing that "Robby's way is categorically better" or something like that. The optics of a POC woman doctor learning the "right way" to do medicine from Noah Wyle are really really bad. Obviously I have faith in the show but it still worries me a little bit.

My biggest Doctor Who hot take is probably that of all of the Doctors that were acted amazingly but held back by the writing, the worst case of that is, in my opinion, the 11th Doctor. I absolutely LOVE Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor, but outside of a few episodes (Beast Below, God Complex, Vincent and the Doctor, The Doctor's Wife, and Day of the Doctor), most of series 5-7 is either too uninteresting or too insane for me to really want to revisit it. It's especially jarring compared to Moffat's other three series, which all have very interesting arcs and mostly good episodes. I genuinely would give Matt Smith another at least another season as the Doctor if we weren't currently in the nostalgia hellscape that is modern who, because I do feel that his performance was significantly wasted within his own series. Mind you, it's not even that I think series 5-7 are terrible, but they really just aren't that interesting as a whole in my opinion.
