in Finland, it is illegal to kill a bear when itβs hibernating. If you ask a hunter why that is, a number of them will tell you itβs wrong simply because it is the law, and they donβt make a distinction between what is right, and what is legal. Most people like that are perfectly normal, decent and respectable people, just like the rest of us.
Β But if you ask people who think about things, the answer is vague. Killing a hibernating bear would just feelβ¦ impolite? You canβt fucking shoot a man when heβs sleeping, thatβs just fucking rude. Itβs just not the right thing to do.
Β Long before hunting laws were established in Finland, you couldnβt kill a sleeping bear, and what commands you is something older than law: tradition. Even at a time when hunting was a matter of life and death, and a bear fighting for its life is mainly a matter of death, you just didnβt kill a hibernating bear, you have to wake it up first. Hunters risked their lives, the lives of their brothers and everyone in the hunting party, who were friends, family and men that they loved, to give the bear a fighting chance.
Β In the modern time, the hunting season of bears is in the summer, for the warmest summer months. There are many reasons for why they are allowed to tread safely in autumn and to sleep in peace through the cold months, almost all of which are rational and scientific, and do not touch the old traditions.
Β Old faith says a living thing has many souls - henki, luonto, itse. Plants only have one - the one that wills them to grow. Animals have two, both the spark of life and nature that enables them to act. A human being also has the third, one that makes them a person, personality, itse, literally βselfβ. But the soul that travels in your dreams is not the soul that defines a human - animals have that one as well. When your dog runs in her sleep, her soul is elsewhere, where a dog is needed.
Β Oneβs waking soul is elsewhere when they sleep and dream. A bearβs soul is somewhere else when they are hibernating - there are two words for βhibernationβ in finnish, one of which is talviuni, βwinter sleepβ, and that is the one that bears have - and if you kill a sleeping bear, their soul is not in the body, it is still out there, and it can find you, and as a revenge for killing its body, Ghost Bear will kill your entire fucking family.
Various works by Antonio Canova / bombs
In December 1917, during the Word War I Battle of Monte Grappa, a large-caliber grenade fired by Austrian forces burst through the roof of the Plaster Cast Gallery at the Museo Gypsotheca Anotnio Canova of Possagno, Italy. Amid the resulting shower of rubble and debris, dozens of original plaster casts and marble sculptures by the Italian neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova were seriously damaged or, in some cases, completely destroyed.
Immediately following the attack, the damaged works were documented by photographers Stefano and Siro Serafin; these images of the "wounded" masterworks would become poignant symbols of the devastation caused by the Great War.
With the conclusion of the war, the museum underwent a major restoration and eventually reopened in 1922. Decades later, amid the violence of World War II, the surviving pieces were temporarily moved to the nearby Temple of Possagno before eventually being returned.

Hello, friends!
Iβm having a closing sale on my Etsy shop from July 1st to July 31st. Iβm not sure if Iβll reopen it in the future, but Etsy has not been working well for me over the last two years. I am not making enough sales there anymore to justify the exorbitant fees to keep my shop open, so Iβve made the decision to close the shop for now. After the sale, Iβll be reopening my Big Cartel shop. Right now I want to clear out some stock and get things ready for curating the new shop there.
The sale runs all month, with a minimum purchase of $25 per order to receive the discount. That helps me at least cover shipping. Please also note that orders will be sent out about two weeks after being placed, since Iβm only able to get to the post office twice a month right now due to health issues.
Use code CLOSING at checkout!
Thank you so much for supporting me. It means a lot to me!
Also yes, that is my little Uszka baby.

you have to forgive the printer because it's one of the most machine-ass machines we interact with on a day to day basis. that thing says kerchunk. hardly anything says kerchunk these days. you can't get mad at her when she kerchunks up a little.
Crazy that tech has gotten so bad that we're doing printer forgiveness now
