Dutch's Personal Hell
Found these lines that are so commonly missed by players, rushing to end “A Rage Unleashed” mission (returning horses back to the Indians). Dutch is talking to Eagle Flies, when they’re back on shore.
“There’s only so much treachery and betrayal that a man can take before he must admit to himself that he is no longer a man. You know, I never had a son… Your father must be a great man… He raised you…”
As much as he is trying to appeal to Eagle Flies here, I feel that these sentiments are not completely ungrounded. At this point, Dutch actually started to believe that both John AND Arthur have betrayed him somehow. Lots of people in the fandom point to Dutch leaving Arthur in the warehouse and say “he was in it for the money all this time” and I can’t agree with this at all, when literally a minute before that Dutch had noticed army men and said to Arthur: “Your friends?!”. His sanity deteriorated so much, he believed the boy he raised would actually sell them out to the damn army. I wonder if this paranoia shattered his self-esteem so much (which is a double blow considering his MASSIVE ego), it became an even bigger factor in the gang falling apart than Micah’s bootlicking.
