i should make a pinned post, huh.

hi i'm dez. i write whoever.

this is a sideblog to originlist and minarcana. i will follow you from one of them, probably. i am not mutuals only: whoever wants to can send whatever in for whoever.

i have a long muse list and probably more unlisted ones. easiest way to RP with me is by sending an ask. Come at me. i dont bite. my activity is, however, incredibly sporadic.

they boy tilted his head to the side, red eyes looking around but not finding athena anywhere. "mother...?" no answer. and he knew that he wasn't supposed to run around pandemonium all by himself.

she had probably been called away to tame some beast or something of the sorts.

well, erichthonios did know where one person went! he hurried to hesperos side, small hands tugging lightly on his robe.

"can I stay with you until mother is back?" — @minarcana .

sometimes hesperos feels as if lahabrea and athena, in all their intelligence, forget that erichthonios is a human child instead of a concept mid-proofing. not to disparage people who he likes a great deal in both professional and personal capacity, but for goodness' sake.

a child, especially one that is oddly bad at manipulating aether, should not be left alone in pandaemonium no matter what issue arose. at least pass him off to hesperis directly. erichthonios at least finds his way to hesperos's side, and he kneels to speak to the child. "of course you may. like as not, she's been called down to the depths." it's the only explanation for why she'd have vanished suddenly and her aetheric signature isn't immediately noticeable somewhere in the facility's web.

hesperos hums in thought. "we can wait here, or if you like, you can come with me on my rounds. we'll be able to tell when either of your parents come back to the surface, so you won't be lost from them either."

Laurel pulls Erichthonios into a hug, either not noticing or not minding that he's being squished against her ample bosoms. At least it's comfortable. "Erich! I missed you~ so I came to visit. You already look like you grew up so much as a warden!" She really hasn't been gone that long, but time is kind of funny between Elpis and Eitherys. "I brought gifts. Have you been eating properly? It's fruit tarts." She doubts Amaurot is particularly known for its culinary arts, since even the researchers in Elpis talk about how they try to prioritize functionality over indulgence, so she has to make and deliver proper snacks to her best boy.

"It is a bit amusing that you've found your way here." Well, it may as well have been a can of fish, all things considered. Their shrine was the weakest point of this 'singularity', after all. Not in a way that announced itself- it was well-defended by their 'daughter's' own foxes, yet was also a place holy and sacred. Their revelers rarely had reason to go there, and Yagyō-no-Mikoto was clever enough to never punish outright trespassers.

It would merely encourage attention to the place, and misdirection was key.

It was natural, then, that a place of calm, a place carefully defended, but not overtly so as to be a trap, would attract...

"I meant to invite each of my visitors to their own piece of this place. A festival beloathed is hardly a cause for celebration, and it reflects poorly upon me for those who come here to have a poor time. Yet, I could scarcely find one last one." Yagyō-no-Mikoto sits with their own monochrome gradient spilled around them, hair carefully spilled amongst them. The low table is littered with paper, fragile and wax thin, and yet still the shrine smells of camellia and iris, as if...

The paper blossoms stir in the wind, only the faintest sound of music and delight carrying from the hills below this small 'peak'. The plum tree's branches hang amidst the eaves, yet are strikingly bare. Someone kind may say they are about to bud. Someone truthful may say the boughs have long left their season to flower.

"It has been a long time since I have played hanafuda with someone who can match me." The god speaks politely, not quite warm, yet not quite chilled over either. It is a difference from their enthusiastic delight with all their other guests. A hand that is oddly... 'thin', perhaps, to the point of implying gauntness, beneath their sleeves, gestures to Seimei with a quiet hum.

It is an odd thing, from someone with those eyes. Those eyes are typically venomous or reverent, with scarce in-between. Yagyō-no-Mikoto hides half their face behind a fan, ever-present, and looks at Abe-no-Seimei with something uncannily neither.

"When one can peer inside the box, the game becomes something different altogether. Consider this my request." Or, rather, a test, isn't it? "I am curious to see the abilities of the greatest of another world. Yet, I suspect whim is hardly enough... nnn, though..."

Ah. A head tilts slightly. The bush clover, its perfect pale petals, is the only vegetation here to show any signs of thriving. It sings in the breeze, as its branches cling to each other as if they fear parting.

"...you are here for the Holy Grail, are you not? If you perform well, here, I'll hand it over at the end of the festival to your Chaldea. I will have no need of it then, and I have no desire for battling your people." Though there is the slightest of crows feet, the squinting of their eyes and faintest lilt of their tone, as if Yagyō-no-Mikoto is laughing at a joke they are too polite to speak.

"I ask not that you even win."

Of course it’s not amusing. It was inevitable. Yagyō-no-Mikoto would know this just as well as Seimei does. Simple happenstance is almost impossible with Seimei, and especially between Seimei and this… yokai and the face it wears. Still, Seimei nods politely, expression inscrutable. At least the shrine the noise of the revelry outside is nicely dulled, which does wonders to ease Seimei’s headache that the parade as a whole has been giving him. Most of it is stress and irritation at having to deal with it, compounded with how keen his and Chaldea’s masters alike are on reveling.

“It’s rare for a host to oblige each and every guest in entirety. I’ve never been one for revelry, and you can’t fault yourself for one of your party invitees being a humorless old man.” He digs at himself with the light air of a joke, polite dismissal falling like habit from his lips. “I’m glad to provide you a challenge, at least. I expect you have not slacked on your spellcraft in the years since your ascension.” There’s a raised eyebrow, the shadow of a tease that would have been more obvious were it directed at a face without the mien of a god or the bichromatic coat of hair.

He is, frankly, a little bit annoyed that this ‘Douman’ has taken one of his habits, the incessant fiddling with and hiding behind a fan. It makes him feel as if it’ll now become too noticeable if he does it himself, come across as mocking of the host. Yet surely, knowing Douman, it’s them copying him.

Rude.

But that’s just his own petulance that makes him think that, forced to keep his own fan closed and merely tap it against his leg in thought as he sits rather than holding it in front of him. “Why would you claim whim be insufficient? I’m here, am I not? I’m not so rude as to force a parade to close without any proof it’s doing harm. For now, Master and Servant are merely… carousing.” It’s not technically going to hurt them at the rate it’s going. A bit of temporary madness enhancement, as it were, is not really worth summoning a storm above this. The parade has its own rights to exist.

It’s simply that the face leading it is one that Seimei cannot really trust, and he’s already seen one ending of this farce. His gaze flicks only briefly to Yagyō-no-Mikoto's hand. Barely morethan a skeleton themselves, hardly fattened on the glut of souls and magic that carouse around them. Where does it all go, then? Seimei's face betrays none of the concern or confusion that he tucks away as a mental note. “I play with you according to my own whim.” And that’s really all it is. The main reason Seimei does just about anything. The whim to aid, the whim to appear only in a temporary form, the whim to ignore some events while interfere in others.

An old man is allowed his inconsistencies, he excuses himself.

“Chaldea is here for the Grail, not myself.” Seimei says idly, giving away a bit of his hand. He is not strictly Chaldea. His own Master, and therefore the only authority that could actually make him do something he doesn’t really want to, couldn’t care less about the Grail. He himself only seeks it for convenience. “I indulge their goals out of my own curiosity. Is it so unbelievable I would want to visit an old colleague?” If that’s what Douman’s body could be called. That’s… also not entirely true, but when would Seimei ever fully reveal any of his thoughts.

It’s close enough and offers Yagyō-no-Mikoto a treat, a peace offering, the flowers around them fallen and tinting the air with scent before they rot. “If the stage you wish is a game, then I would be loathe to refuse you.” A smile, fleeting. “I’m hardly averse to competitions myself. I’ll do my utmost to give you good sport.” It’s the least he could do, only polite for a guest.

solomon blinked before laughing. "noam doesn't hate you! he is embarrassed you beat him up at the temple of time, he's a sore loser that's all. but he respects you, or he wouldn't be here. trust me, that spirit has no issues letting you know what he thinks." good think he was currently not residing in his shadows but rather floated around cath palug to chat with his fellow ( former ) beast.

"just give them all time to settle. the shedim are all busy separating themselves from the image of the 'ars goetia' that was forced upon them. but they are here to help chaldea and you in particular." they had mentioned something about it being an issue of pride. if they could not destroy ritsu and humanity, then nobody got to do so.

"he doesn't?" ritsu's expression cracks immediately into a grin -- and then something a little nefarious. uh oh, don't let ritsu know they have the power to embarrass anyone, much less a beast of humanity. "ooh, does that mean he thinks i'm cool? 'cos i beat him? heheh." almost certainly not. they are not cool. however: they can now probably annoy noam by insinuating as much. good luck out there, buddy.

"i'll take it! im grateful for any help. even just you, i mean -- it's not like you have to actually help any of us. you've done enough that it'd be fine if you just rested on your laurels and just hung out, y'know? you've all already done your share. so i'm really glad when you're around. that's why i want to be friends with everyone... nothing is really making anyone help me," aside from the whole destruction of the world thing, but still. the call could always be ignored, "so, i don't know. i want to those who are kind enough to join me to feel appreciated."

dinadan sighs, knowing fully well he screwed up. his habit of wanting people to see themselves in the best light possible did not help when the person and dinadan had two different ideas of what was uplifting.

"I'm sorry. you're right it was a bad argument" he offered the berserker a smile ...which quickly disappears when lancelot brings up saber.

"...that's hurtful. I told you from the start that I separate you both and that my love is for you, not him. don't shove your insecurities about him on me." dinadan jabbed a finger at lance's chest as he continues to speak "I love you. the armor, the fog. the you who is closer to the fae who raised him than to a human. unfortunately for you, you might hate yourself - as you are now and as saber - but that doesn't change anything for me"

of course it's hurtful. he did it in order to hurt. though, now that the biting is done and he's gotten the desired outcome of making dinadan upset, regret sets in. as per usual. well, it's a lesson as to what dinadan's chosen.

"then don't tell me to be human. i'm not." he's met barghest and melusine once or twice. he likes them. maybe being something like that would have been easier. his face is imperceptible now, aside from the movements of his mouth. eyes and most of his expression are obscured and impossible to focus on. "nor do i want to be. tried. died. i'm done now. whatever you think i was, or should be-- my madness is mine. on purpose." the berserker curse (gift) is easier to bear than whatever was wrong with his brain when he was alive. that wrongness still lingers now, but quieter under the comforting shroud of madness enhancement. he is, wants to be, a beast. it's the only way he will let himself stay coherent. he can speak, a hunting dog can speak, but lancelot the knight will not.

Bro, we are cooked. The knight that dogs the prince's shadow like a dark and silent wraith just knelt to press his forehead to the prince's hand. Yeah, now he's uttering a prayer whose recipient is ostensibly God but in reality is the deified version of the prince that exists only in his mind. Aaand the prince just caressed his cheek to preemptively grant him absolution. I gotta... I gotta get out of here.

"someone has to parent them." they were his precious friends after all! ignoring the whole debacle with them trying to destroy the world, solomon felt rather strongly about the shedim in his care. "chocolate is food too but poisonous for birds."

but he does understand ritsu's reasoning. "meat would probably be preferable. if you want to befriend all of them the easiest way would be to befriend the one who used to be all of them..." though noam tried to avoid chaldea's master, the child often disappearing the moment ritsu's voice so much as drifted around a corner. "just give them all a bit of time..."

"noam doesn't like me, though." ritsu frowns. it does bother them a little bit-- they really don't blame noam! they did very much kill goetia that one time. ritsu tries not to hold grudges, but gets why one would be held against them. still, they want to be friends... "so clearly the way to go is befriending your shadow piece by piece."

it's like when you have a roommate or partner who owns a pet that doesn't like you. you have to earn the pet's affection. except, well, are the sheydim really pets... don't let them know ritsu thought that. "noted. i'll still get them some jerky. that, i have plenty of." don't worry about it.

"all things considered, your atmosphere is very... anchored. earth aspect, is it? or maybe, a little bit of ice? either way, i can see a little shadow of that person you dreamed of, but there's no room for me to wiggle any other details." immobile aspects aren't really his friend. well, there's a lot of 'roots' going on with this guy. too bad for whoever he's looking for. // @airmedsblood

"popcorn is probably fine if you left it plain..." he scratches the back of his neck, laughing a little "friendship huh. that is quite the ritsu choice to make" only ritsu would try to befriend the things that tried to kill them - albeit the shedim had been corrupted and felt maybe a bit sorry -. "somewhat, shedim like the original demon that goetia used to be, are all bird like. even when he took on my form his feet were always talons. think of them as birds of prey"

"you're an overprotective parent, i see, i see. butter is still on the food pyramid. calories are nutritious." let the sheydim live a little. let them have little a buttered popcorn, as a treat. it probably shouldn't surprise ritsu that solomon prefers his wards eat only plain popcorn, if any. "what else would i do? i don't want them as my enemy." they already did that, it was no fun at all! best to see if they can bribe them into being nice instead.

ritsu nods to themselves. "i see. so next time, i should drop in meat? i don't think raptors go for birdseed, but it's been a while since i dealt with birds." bird anatomy doesn't really do well in homunculi; they've not been motivated to shore up on subjects that aren't applicable lately. time to ask servant google what good treats for hawks are!

"You'll burn out faster that way, you know. Not like any of us have much spare time, or much ability to turn away from the anxiety, but if you don't find a way to relax, you'll collapse sooner rather than later." It's not like their lackadaisical attitude is always entirely sincere. Call it tactical. But Nix is earnest, and worries, and it's as much a strength as a weakness. "I'd prefer not to see your legs collapse from under you, or have to help hold you down to bedrest when that happens. Just a bit of time not thinking about everything is enough."

well he doesn't know with which sheyd the treats will end up with but "....demons have sensitive tummies, don't throw in nonsense." he can feel things pass through his shadow, ritsu!

"I'm a certified expert, you know." He wouldn't lie! Well, maybe just a little bit. When it's more fun that way. But he can absolutely be cited in her essay as a trustworthy source in realm studies.

Not that his own homework is any closer to being done. He just doesn't like medical classes, going through all the different ways one can puncture and repair organs is more gross than anything. Hence why he's bothering Elle.

"Ramona's schedule is.. ehm..." He does some quick mental calculations. "If we're snappy, we probably can get out and Ramona will have a while before she notices. Let's go." Not like he takes convincing. Sylvester sweeps his papers haphazardly into his bag, shoulders it, and waits for Eleanor to follow him. He's used to skittering out the back ways -- don't call him a problem child, please.

solomon is used to flattery - it simply comes with the territory of being king and ritsu is not the first betrothed to compliment him from the start but... there is an easiness with which they speak that has solomon stunned.

clearing his voice he laughs gently.

"should I be worried that you think politeness is a sign of luck?" as if his mother would raise him to be rude. though it is a bit too embarrassing to blurt that out. he offers ritsu his arm, nodding towards the palace doors "I will bring you to your quarters. you will probably want for some rest after your journey"

"No. If it were me, I'd be glad the standards were easy to meet." They laugh. It probably is a bit worrying for them, but Ritsu has gotten this far mostly by deciding not to worry about things. "You know the lot of a child who isn't firstborn -- I'm not bitter, I'd rather not rule, don't get me wrong. But I've heard of much unluckier people, eh?" Those who were tied to someone multiple times their age, or someone who viewed them as an unwelcome burden that must be suffered for the sake of alliances or land.

And perhaps Solomon would end up that way, seeing Ritsu as a troublesome houseguest, but Ritsu feels fairly confident in their ability to avoid that particular fate. They take the offered arm, hand resting lightly on Solomon's forearm. "I would appreciate it. Hopefully I won't get too lost after I see my way the first time." // @nishkach

romani frowns, worry clearly written all across his face. ritsu is not doing well, he can see that much. from all that he gathered that is not exactly a surprise, but it still worries him. he will grief for leonardo later - the doctor can practically hear her laugh, telling him to focus on the living and not on her.

"don't worry about cake, once things are fixed I'll invite you out to so much cake you and I both will be sick of seeing it" it's half a joke because romani is aware maybe this isn't exactly fixable, but he immediately melts into his old role, trying to keep ritsu's mind away from the bad things.

he follows the other, shaking his head a little. "I can at least prove that this time I am myself." he can do that inside however. green eyes look towards the people waiting at the door - some of them have teared up and he can feel himself getting choked up once more. he will have a lot of catching up to do.

"thank you" he takes ritsu's hand and follows him inside. immediately smiling "...leonardo's work I assume?" he asks, motioning around them. "I am fine. food was hard to come by but I had help" he sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. "before you debrief me, let me explain how I survived. might take the edge off of things here"

"noam." for one moment his eyes flash golden as a young looking boy appears by his side. "you might know him as goetia but... I assure everyone that he is fine now. he knows somewhat what happened but he and I established our old connection - though as you can see it cost him most of his old self. I know it is much to ask but please treat him as if he were just a normal boy - my son if that helps." the boy stares at the staff, moving closer to romani and one hand gently holds onto his sleeve.

"without him I would not have survived out there" he continues now focusing back on ritsu. "no. I am ready. I want to know what happened."

adding a child iteration of goetia into the mix almost completely fails to surprise ritsu, unlike everyone else who reacts with murmuring. really, it's almost nothing to ask ritsu to treat him as a 'normal boy'. it wouldn't have been difficult to do that even if romani had placed down the full monster body of goetia that tried to kill them what seems like ages ago. ritsu's had weirder allies. the actual difficult part is the next question, when romani asks for an explanation. there's a slow, measured exhale. they're not looking forward to their story being aired.

"the..." ritsu pauses, swallowing thickly. "the mages' association came. all the servants got unsummoned 'cept robin, since he's directly contracted and they didn't know about him. new administrator got sent to be in charge of us and he came with... i'unno. she looks like tamamo. called herself koyanskaya. after the world went bleached, she connected us with this timeline or something, i don't know exactly. but chaldea was overrun by shadows and ice. killed most everyone."

they trail off again. ritsu sits down heavily, looking at the floor near noam and romani's feet. there's a haunted edge to their gaze as their voice gets distant. "'mergency procedures. evacuation into this. after that, visiting the members of team a to say hello." ritsu smiles wanly. "apparently they think i stole their right and claim to save everyone. that i stepped in and took their glory in the singularities. so they made these lostbelts, timelines, other trees, to make human history over again. fuck if i know why. i'd have let them save whoever the hell they wanted if they were awake, but now if i want human history back i have to fight them and kill their timelines for it. was just in one. it sucked. cold, miserable, and now i'm back here, for all the good cutting a world off did."

(they know they killed the yaga. even if it was nonviable. there were people, and those people suffered. you can't save everyone. there are so many more people who are gone, even in the world that ritsu wants to establish as 'real'. ritsu will never go home again.)

"i'm sorry." they finally look back up. "everything sucks. i want to go home. sorry. i'm not even the worst off here." they laugh, noise thick and very slightly hysterical. it's fine. everyone else who is here wasn't even supposed to be. they're not master candidates, they were just workers who were supposed to go home. "i really am glad to have you back. and welcome goetia -- noam, do you prefer that?-- on board. sorry my introduction wasn't very cool. i'll be better soon." they'll get their head back on straight. as it is, they would offer noam their hand, but he seems shy and ritsu looks like a mess, so they just give a little belated wave instead.
