This Saturday, September 7, join UP Cinema's film criticism workshop as we deconstruct films and examine their intricacies with film critics Francis "Oggs" Cruz and Choy Pangilinan. Oggs Cruz is a lawyer by day and a film critic by night. As a film critic, he maintains a oggsmoggs.blogpsot.com where he regularly discusses the latest films, and also updates oggslist.blogspot.com, an archive of over a hundred movie reviews. He also contributes articles for twitchfilm.com, an international website for film reviews. Choy Pangilinan is a film professor at the UP Film Institute and a member of the Young Critics Circle Film Desk, a local award-giving body composed of film critics. He has also written for Plaridel: Journal of Philippine Communication and co-wrote an award-winning screenplay. Know what makes films work in this fourth and final workshop for this semester. UP Cinema's directing workshop with Erik Matti has been moved to THIS MONDAY! This September 2, join UP Cinema and filmmaker Erik Matti, as we learn the basics of directing. Previously nominated as Best Director in the Gawad Urian and Film Academy of the Philippines Awards, Matti has relevant insights to share about his field. His works include "Rigodon" (2012), "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles" (2012), and his most recent, "On the Job" (2013), which received a standing ovation during its premiere at the 66th Cannes Film Festival as part of the Director's Fortnight. The workshop will be held in the CMC Auditorium, UP College of Mass Communication (Plaridel Hall), Ylanan Road, Diliman, Q.C. Admission is free. This Saturday, July 20, join UP Cinema and guest speaker sculptor-artist-designer Leeroy New as he shares his insights and experiences with production design. As a cross-disciplinary artist, he has worked in various forms of visual arts such as film, theater, and television. His previous works in the field include Joaquin Valdes' Dagim (2010) and Sari Dalena's Ka Oryang (2012).

The workshop will be held at the Media Center Lobby, UP College of Mass Communication (Plaridel Hall), Ylanan Road, Diliman, Q.C. Admission is free.
