The pool is uncovered again, who fancies a dip?

'The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where he was lying. Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you."' (Matt 28:1-7)

It must have been an awe-inspiring sight for the women - an angel whose "appearance was like lightning" had just rolled back the tombstone over the grave where they'd expected to find Jesus' body, revealing it to be empty. How would you have reacted in that situation? I think their "fear and great joy" probably goes for most of us!

When Jesus was executed the day after the Passover meal, everyone thought He had failed. Even His disciples didn't believe the women when they went back and told them He was risen - they had to see for themselves. Eventually, well over 500 people saw Jesus after His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:5-8), giving His followers the confidence to go out and spread the Good News: that God is living, ruling and offers forgiveness from our sin.

Their faith wasn't based only on what they had heard, read or felt - it was based on solid, concrete facts. They had watched Jesus die and then physically seen him alive again with their own two eyes.Through the testimony they were willing to die for, we too can be confident in saying, "Christ is risen indeed!"

"When He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins." (Matt 26:27-28)

On a Thursday evening nearly 2000 years ago, Jesus made clear what his ultimate mission was: to provide atonement and restore our lost relationship with God.

That Thursday evening was the start of a long, traumatic night, but there was encouragement to hold on: "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also." (John 14:18-19)

Why not spend a bit of time to read and meditate on some of the gospel accounts over the next few days?
